  1. So the Skoda Assist mechanic came out and spent several hours trying to fix the infotainment system without luck. The dealership has a shortage of mechanics apparently and when asked what we can do to prevent future crashes they told us that they've no idea - so that doesn't exactly instill confidence. Seems like we'll be stuck with a car with limited functionality for a while 😞 Thanks for the advice all the same - this is a great forum. We've decided that we will probably replace the car as we can't keep dealing with this issue every few months (but I'm glad others here have solved it). thanks
  2. Well I've an update on this - my wife called Skoda and according to my kids laid down the riot act. Skoda are sending out an "advanced technician" to see us from 12:30 today. So the lesson here is to just let me wife deal with these things - she gets things done 🤷‍♂️
  3. Thanks Steve - I think it's the lack of urgency that's really irritated me this time. As you say the car is seriously limited in functionality now and waiting for at least 4 weeks for a resolution is very poor. Your idea of pushing for a loan car is a good one - I'll try that. I think I could probably live with this if I had a working car in the meantime. thanks
  4. Thanks - I appreciate the response. I really don't want to go through the hassle and expense of a replacement car - but as I say this is the 3rd time we'll be taking it in for this (and the second time they'll be replacing the actual unit). We've also had many many rattles and creaks - they've had to order a replacement door panel as it was poorly made and had to rework the overhead unit because it wasn't fixed properly. I'd really rather this be fixed but it's been roughly a year of continual issues - this latest failure just feels like the last straw. What's really annoyed me this time is that the dealer will only see us in a months time - so the actual replacement will be a few weeks after that. In the meantime we don't have aircon control, radio or satnav. The whole experience has just been really poor from the start. I'm a software engineer so the whole upgrade idea isn't scary but as I say it reboots within 5 seconds. I doubt the upgrade process would prevent this - and again I'm wary to even try as it's still under warranty. Thanks again - I'll have to see how this latest repair goes.
  5. I've been tracking this thread since I got my `21 Octavia (1.5 TSI e-TEC SE L) and after having had the infotainement replaced once already and booked in yet again to have it replaced (I assume - it's dead again) I've come to the conclusion that the car is a lemon and I'd be better off replacing it now. This thread is really useful but as the car is still under warranty I'd rather not try "fix" anything myself. I'm also not sure I could update the firmware as the unit itself is dead (and dies again after a couple of minutes if you reset it - probably not enough time to apply the update). My question is is this an issue across all VW groupd cars as I assume they share parts? I ask as I'd like to avoid this hassle with whatever we replace it with. thanks
