Spark Plugs - Is there a deeper engine issue?

A bit pricey for some grease haha! It just has an arrow pointing to the inside of the tip, I literally coated probably the first CM (maybe even less) as I was scared of getting it on the top part that mates with the electrode on the plug.

In the maintenance doc it just says "coat with silicone paste" there's no part numbers listed but I assume that there might be one in the dealers internal catalogue. From my research online it's apparently all pretty much the same stuff and silicone grease and paste are interchangeable

I think it was the car dealer (non skoda) that did the first service, and then halfords for the second one (I did not know better then) Full disclosure this is the first time I ever have done it. But I just put a light smearing of silverhook silicone grease in the boot with a cotton bud. No grease on the threads as they are coated from factory (NGK) . I was reccomended this stuff as safe to use and I've not had any problems so far, although it has only been a day

Yeah that's right they have a coated thread now to stop them from seizing so no anti seize or copper grease required. Although that doesn't mean the plugs weren't pulled by a garage and greased up I suppose during the warranty period. I have replaced them now with brand new plugs, I pulled them with the intention of replacing regardless of condition as they are 4 years old on 28k miles

Hey Nigel! Thanks for your response. I did think it's not much to worry about, it doesn't seem to be consuming oil yet. You are right that it's the 1L 3cyl MPI Engine I managed to get the coil packs off pretty easily but I picked up one of these tools to aid me. A bit pricey but it does stop the coils and boot from seperating, then you need to rock back and forward for a while (up to 5 mins for one of mine) to get them off but they do eventually come. I applied a thin layer of silicone grease on the edges of the inside of the coil so hoping it's much easier next time. These were the original plugs from new. https://amzn.eu/d/gGgX4Gh

Hi All, did my spark plugs today and noticed that there seems to be a bit of oil in the plug threads, is this indicative of an issue?

Mannoll 508/509
I always change Oil/Filter every year regardless of mileage (I'm always under 10,000), so in this case best option for me is 502/505? What is the detriment of using long life oils on short intervals? (ie, is 508/509 and 504/507 not worth touching in future?)

Mannoll 508/509
Nah prior to 2021 it shows 504/502 both as potential options. So what actually changed between these years? Was the change in reccomendation just to meet fuel efficiency?

Mannoll 508/509
My copy of the manual only says after MY 2021 508. Made a mistake when i said 2020 Mine is a mk3 from 2021

I tend to change every year regardless of mileage (always well under 10,000) I have always used 508 as its the only listed one in the manual for my 1.0mpi after M/Y 2020. Is this not best practice? I'm trying to prolongue these engines as long as I can

Mannoll 508/509
Hey thanks for the response. I have only really been using 508 the last few years as that's what it says in the service manual for M/Y 2020 onwards with no alternative like the previous years. Would you say its still better to use the previous 504 or 502 standards? Edit: to add context, it's 1.0mpi engines we have

Mannoll 508/509
Has anyone used this recently and can confirm it to be any good? It's around half the price of castrol ll iv It appears it used to have VW approval but it's now expired, id hazard a guess it's not changed much and they just don't want to pay again for testing/approval https://m.autodoc.co.uk/mannol/17844983

Engine oil - how long once opened?
Hi All, back with a bit of a dumb/noob question... I have happened upon an opportunity to buy 20L of vw 508 approved oil for a cheap price, but would only use 3.4Lx2 per year on our cars. I was wondering if it's safe to store it for this period of time or not? I could look in to putting it into seperate containers or something so the main bottle isn't reopened too often. Hoping someone can provide some advice on this! Thanks in advance
