  1. ah I think I am making words up here, sorry. Pretty sure I filled up to 2 mm above the hatched area (B area as you say?), which I have called Max. Should have taken pics of each measurement of course. Now the level is at the top of the hatched area. So on 500 km it has dropped 2 mm on the stick. Does that make sense?
  2. After 500 km, the oil level is at the B mark, top of the hatch pattern on the stick. According to my measurements, approximately 0.5 litres from Min to Max, and 1.4 litres from level when oil lamp came on, up to Min.
  3. It has not occured since that incident
  4. A VW diagnosis device from Biltema, not the cheapest one though.
  5. Yes, literally standing in my garage, not the workshop :)
  6. Yeah air in fuel system would make sense given the symptoms. It cranked OK without booster, could have been more clear on that sorry. It had one day off in the garage before this incident. So air in fuel system... is that something a workshop can dig in to?
  7. no engine fault codes on my personal ODB device, forgot to write that sorry
  8. Just an update: it took 2 litres of subsequent filling and checking, before level was approx 2 mm above Max. I have reset the counter, and will check again after 1k km
  9. Yesterday morning I took the car out of the garage, battery topped up from charger, started easily. 20 meters out the engine died, just as from turning off ignition. Tried cranking, no sign of starting. Looked around motor, nothing of notice, perhaps some discoloration around some injector mounts, not sure. Connected a battery start booster, cranked for a record long time, eventually the engine came back to life, running as if nothing happened. Since then no problems, engine starts easily. If the injector pump somehow abruptly lost power, it should have been easy to start again, right? One concern could be condensation in fuel tank perhaps, since I have the habit of letting the tank be closer to empty than full. IDK. Since this error was intermittent, what error source could the workshop guys hope to find? Octavia MK II 1.6 TDI, 232k km, changed diesel filter around 180k
  10. Difficult to say exact color of the coating in the blue flashlight, but scraping it with a knife tip, I think it was a thin coating, not flaky thick residue.
  11. I guess there is a logic to there being 3.8 litres left in the sump when oil level is at MIN?
  12. is there such a thing as an oil volume to dipstick level mapping for the 1.6 TDi?
  13. I agree, I see no leaks, and really have not seen the kind of bluey exhaust smoke you can see in traffic from time to time.
  14. Workshop says the motor likely has used 1 litre on 1,300 km, that there should be approx 3.3 litres left, and that they use an automatic volume gauge/ counter on the pump when they refill. I should have checked the oil level immediately after service. Using 1 litre on 1,300 km, meaning I will use 10 liters a year. It does not make sense to me.
  15. Thanks for the responses guys, really appreciate them! I do trust the workshop, been around for ages, but mistakes could happen. It is not unthinkable that they by mistake filled less oil than charged. If the oil drain plug have leaked, where would those 4.3 litres of oil go? I have not seen any sign of leaks, neither on car or garage floor.
  16. Interesting, is that an "official" rule I can claim against my workshop?
  17. No, but I realize that I should have done that.
  18. The recipe from the workshop says more than 4 litres refill of Mobil1 ESP 5w-30. I did not gauge oil level after service, though I probably should have.
  19. My old Yeller was at the workshop early December last year, getting oil filter service and 4L fresh oil. Yesterday the oil lamp lighted, and I was like WTF. It had been using oil earlier, but not 4 litres at 1 300 kilometers as now. I suspected oil level sensor failure, but I did gauge the oil stick 10 minutes after engine stop, and only the ball below MIN mark was wet. I noticed a hint of oil smell around the car after parking it in the garage. Today I inspected a bit around the engine with a Bosch inspection camera. I stuck camera under engine, and there is some tray structure with quadratic "knobs" sticking up. There was maybe some oil at the bottom there, but not 4 litres. Garage floor is dry. I can not see any oil leaks. I have to call the workshop boss on Monday, but should I even dare to drive it? I have to drive 10 kilometres to buy new oil. It has passed 230k kilometres now.
  20. After quite a bit of pondering, I stuck my cell phone inside the bumper, while the fog light was in place, and took a photo. What the photo shows, is that the edge of the clip just barely does not "click" in place, over the edge of the bumper material. I wound up just screwing in a screw with a conic head, directly on the clip, which actually locked the light in place. So my "broken bumber" hypothesis was just bonkers, pardon for that. Part of the story is that I had to order one new light, since the adjustment mechanism plastic parts was broken on several places. It remains to see if the new light locks in place, without any tricks.
  21. I'll add that based on YT video, it would seem like the pre-facelift model fog light is actually screwed on. Lot less potential to screw up
  22. Thanks Mike, I found the bumper here, but would rather need a 3D model to get measurements. For anyone hecitating to dismount the fog light on a similar Octavia, this video shows how easy it is.
  23. I have a 2011 Skoda Octavia MkII 1Z5, which failed inspection due to lack of adjustability of the fog lights/loose fog lights. The workshop has estimated a price for replacing the fog lights, but I now see that the lights are OK, the plastic clips are intact. I suspect that someone has broken the plastic fastener/bracket/ mount that should sit in the front bumper, when changing light bulbs, on BOTH sides. The reason why the lights did not fall out is called glue (!) I would prefer not to change the entire front bumper, and would like to make a mount myself, with e.g. 3D print or thin steel plate, which can be screwed into the plastic. Are there any generous souls here who can provide photos of intact light mounts, and preferably some measurements? Attached is pictures of the bracket area. I am happy to contribute with more info, pictures etc. OEM number for the light is 1Z0.941.702.C/ 1Z0.941.700.C
