qpr started following Citigo Greentech, Garmin sat nav , Second hand PID, will it work? and Skoda Citigo SE (2013) - PID compatability?
-
Careful with second hand. It may have a security code. Mine has, and it won't open, just the four boxes for the code. You won't get the code from Garmin, they are as much use as a one legged man at an arse kicking contest. "Sorry sir, that unit is no longer supported so we can't help you, try Skoda"
-
Well that's the problem solved. We went away for a week and on return, fired up the Citigo and the Sat Nav requested a "security code". Tried everything I could think of without success. Eventually phoned Garmin's hotline and after a bit of a wait, I was told that the device is no longer supported (I knew that) , and there was nothing they could do to help me. When I said, "so chuck it in the bin then "? he said I could try contacting Skoda. So the bin it is then.

Not sure about buying used. There is a security code on some units, which would be required if the unit battery went flat I think. Getting help from Garmin is as easy as flying to the moon. If you don't know, or forget the code, you must return to the address where the unit was first registered (within 164 yards they say) Which is absolutely useless if you bought the car or the unit second hand. Garmin don't recognise the serial numbers either. I'm about to throw my wife's Citigo Garmin in the bin!

Going through the book, it looks like there is a button at the bottom of the cradle " stalk" that has to be pressed, then it just lifts off. I'll try it tomorrow.
-
OK Cheers. Maybe someone can help.

Yes, that's why I wiped it off immediately with a tissue. I couldn't source isopropyl locally, only online. I was going to use a drop of Jack Daniels ! Sat nav still working this morning. Would you know if the whole cradle can be removed from the dash? I only cleaned the back of the Garmin unit and the contacts on the "upstand" Don't want to force it and break something.
-
I may be owe you a huge debt of gratitude. First time I got my hands on the car for a while. Didn't have proper cleaner so I took a risk with acetone. Cleaned both sets of contacts very carefully using a cotton bud and quickly wiped with a tissue. Usually, I have to return to factory settings and go through the process before putting in an address and getting vocal instructions. This time, I connected the nav unit to the cradle, put in a pre loaded address and as if by magic, the voice started right away. I only tried it once, as the garage is blooming freezing . Time will tell, but it certainly looks promising, cheers.

Hi. My wife has a 2013 Citigo Greentech. The sat nav which plugs onto the cradle above the dash loses the "voice directions" every time she sets a destination. I suspect it's not charging, probably the unit itself as the car battery seems ok and I have charged it with a smart charger. I've now brought the Garmin into the house and plugged it into the mains with a suitable plug and cable. It is asking for a code, and I have no idea what it is. The book says I must send the unit back to Garmin to be "unlocked". I've tried their hotline but got no response. I've also tried the usual 0000. 1234, 9999 etc. but without success. Is there a way of sorting this? I've looked through all the documentation and can't find anything to help. Cheers.

Surprising the amount of buyers that take note of service history. On of the first things people want to know.

Glad I got mine sorted. I have a sneaky suspicion that my wife might have fallen for the scam. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, I know all about them now. They book your car with a local garage, take a booking fee, then phone you to say your car needs hundreds of pounds of repairs for the MOT etc. They phoned my wife (her car) and read out a list of stuff it needed, amounting to just under £800 ! That's when I got involved and told them they were having a laugh. They quoted £279 for an outer CV boot! (£20 parts, plus an hours labour at most!) . My wife then phoned the garage where the car was (the collection guy said where it was going), and the mechanic said it had already passed the MOT and didn't need anything. We thought that was honest, until I found the filter hadn't been changed. Afraid I went a bit over the top. The Servicestop guy who came back for the car was actually from the Audi garage ( I phoned them), and had been told to get his arris to my gaff and sort it out. Servicestop had mixed reviews but the car only does about 5 miles a week so I went for the cheapest. Not always the best policy but I really only wanted the service book stamped as I look after most stuff myself usually Lesson learned.

OK, they took the car to an Audi main agent in Farnborough . New oil filter fitted. I checked the air filter and it is new. The car looked like it had been driven through a field. Oil level is now higher than it was before the filter was fitted. I doubt whether half the stuff has been done but I have no proof. Thank goodness I marked the old oil filter. The garage will be getting a cracking review.

Just spotted that. I emailed the garage (they wouldn't answer the phone) I had booked through "servicingstop" Within 45 minutes of emailing, a guy from Servicingstop came to the door . I showed him the filter and he has taken the car to a different garage to get a new filter. I said it should have new oil as well, because the old crap in the filter will have contaminated the current oil. I doubt whether they will do it but hopefully I've put the wind up them as I said I was going to have an independent mechanic look at it. Imagine doing a "full service" and not changing the oil filter. Cowboys. When I get the car back, I'll be having a look at the air filter.

Thank you Breezy_Pete. Looks like the garage is trying it on. Picked on the wrong guy.

Yes, I saw that. The question is, can a filter element be fitted to the old can, or is it a whole new can. The old one is still on the car and I'm not having it!
