Fixed it!
Lots learnt!
- The switch was not faulty, the problem was the left-hand low beam bulb: I measured the voltage at the rear of the (black) holder: there was voltage there. I had a heck of a job getting the bulb holder out (process described in (
). When I looked at the bulb, it seemed okay but didn't shine when I tested it separately, with a 9V battery (and no continuity across the terminals with the multimeter).
So I went and bought 2 replacement bulbs (1 spare!). I tried one on the left-hand low beam bulb connector, outside the shop: it worked! But the right-hand low beam stopped working! I was annoyed and banged the right-hand low beam headlamp shell - and the light came on again!
What an adventure
Still, great that it all works: I have some long journeys over the next few days.
