  1. Thanks Teflon Tom Helpful to know what price I should pay..... Cars been brill up to now so £20 - £30 is worth a try.... I've never gone on chucking money at a car that's why I asked the question here if it has to go it will go. I got this one 3 years ago when i ditched a Vauxhall which again had been brilliant for years but started to cost niggling amounts every MOT.. I'll check out some scrappers around here... bound to find a polo in one of them... And I'll ask around if any of the lads knows anyone with a Vag -com. Thanks again
  2. Well I’ve got a new fuel filter which I am going to fit but the more I think about it the more I think it’s going to be something like teflontom suggested. I keep thinking that if it was fuel starvation like a filter or pump then it would splutter before cutting out.. but this is a violent shut off.. I'm still confused though because if I let it idle for a couple of minutes before driving off it runs sweet. But if I don’t it keeps doing this… I don’t understand the mechanics of it. Does something settle if I let it idle which stops it happening… Just want to get my head around it before I commit to get a throttle body as your right they aren’t cheap… won’t be getting a new one that’s for sure…
  3. Haven't changed the fuel filter in the 18 months i've had it.. so maybe i'll try that first. ....................as i haven't done that, I ought to do it anyway ... I have just driven it up the hill to work which is about 3 miles long and it was cutting out at regular intervals, pretty much every 4 seconds... settled down on the flat only cut out once...
  4. I have a 1.6 felicia that is cutting out while driving. It's quite a sudden jolt when it happens. If i then lift my foot off the throttle and put it back down again it springs back into life. mainly happens going uphill but sometimes on the flat... I have changed the plugs, the leads, the distributer cap and rotor arm... If i let it idle for a couple of minutes after starting it seems to run ok.. but if i stop for any reason and restart it happens all over again... It happens when it is cold and when it is up to temperature... When it happens i can put my foot on and off the clutch pedal (like when bump starting) and nothing happens it only springs back to life when i put my foot back on the accelerator........ it's driving me nuts.....and the wife refuses to drive it....any help would be greatly appreciated...
  5. Have know tracked down which door is clicking... it's the rear nearside door which is unlocking. I started the car and drove off then locked the doors. a couple of minutes later there was a click and up popped the door lock plunger on the rear door. I'm kind of guessing here but would this indicate a prob with the unit in the door or would it still be the main unit... haven't stripped anything down yet as this is the main family car and i have been working on getting my falicia back on the road... cheers shadrach
  6. I am getting an intermittent click which sounds like the central locking happening as i drive along no regularity to it . It doesn’t lock the doors so possibly unlocking even though it already unlocked. Here is the history leading up to this starting. I had a brake pedal switch fail and in the lead up to finding this out i pulled the fuse to check it and all was fine but dropped it down the drain.. so pulled another fuse and swapped it over. little did I know but that was the fuse for the fans which then ran for two days will i waited for a new switch to arrive at the dealers. so the battery went flat.. sorted that out and all seems to be ok know except this clicking of the locking system... don't know if its related or just coincidence ..but as i have no idea what is happening thought i would mention it... anyone any ideas... cheers
  7. thanks for that i'll try again tomorrow... any idea were i can get replacement bolts should i need them?
  8. OK i'll give it another go with a 5mm didn't want to force it in and damage it. I guess as you said there is loads of crud in there... cheers
  9. Thanks for that I didn't realise there were half sizes in metric haven't got any in my kit so it's probably one of those. Now I know it metric I’ll have to nip down the Halfords and grab a couple and see how that goes… thanks for the advice
  10. Hi philje123 Reading with interest your thread as I am part way through doing a cylinder change I noticed at the beginning you talked about an allen key to get the cylinder off. Can you tell me what size as I can’t get any of my metric one to fit and borrowed some imperial ones and none of then seem to fit either. What size did you use? Mine could be rusted too did you get new bolts? To replace the ones taken off? any info will help Cheers shadrach
