  1. Hi, When I was getting into the car scene Skoda was a laughing stock as a brand tbh, I’m in my 50’s. In the mid 80’s I was an avid reader of Cars and Car Conversions and they had a Raipde project car that was a bit “special”, I can’t find the particularly poignant article but it went along the lines of “ we were in the Rapide in the outside lane and held up by a Capri 2.8 injection (reasonably quick in the day) and were flashing him out of the way at over a hundred, the Capri accelerated but was still in the way and moved over at 120, the Skoda went passed the Capri (in the wet)……” this was the start of my interest in Q cars and Skodas. In 2001/2002 the first Octavia VRS estate was launched and I’d just taken delivery of a new, it had sat in a field for a while, Rover 800 Vitesse. I couldn’t persuade my boss to change the car before the Rover started breaking down or wearing out! The Rover became a project in itself and was soon upgraded with new suspension, brakes and exhaust as the original parts gave up the ghost. Kids came along and the Rover was replaced with a Honda Accord estate, more kids came along and so did people carriers! But the Skoda “itch” was still there! Unfortunately I then became too focused on brands and image and was drawn into premium brands such as Jaguar, Audi (RS4) and BMW. After a truly brilliant modified 335d Touring I took a reality check and had a couple of Minis before stepping into an F90 M5 Competition. A completely amazing car but one that was just too tempting to “play” in and I was always at risk of being nicked! But the Skoda itch was still there………and in October this year the M5 was swapped for a new Octavia VRS petrol estate from Citygate in Watford, best service from any dealer in twenty years. The car is great and ticks many more boxes than I ever expected! I like to tweak my cars, something that I was unable to do with the M5 for fear of a big bill if it went wrong. The Skoda has a set of McLaren Artura wheels and Michelin Sport Cup 2’s ready to be fitted in the Spring, KW coilovers also planned and a Maxton front splitter is also waiting to be fitted. It may get a mild remap but as yet undecided. So far so good and looking forward to the next few years …….
