  1. Good afternoon all. After getting the smoke issue sorted, the car passed its MoT test and was fine...for a month. The garage that did the work cleaned the injectors and all was good until earlier this week and the smoke has returned. However, I was told the problem will be with the injector tips/nozzles and they will need replacing. The garage that dealt with it has recently closed, so I can't go back there but I am capable to do this part myself. What I'd like to know is :- Are the injector clamp bolts the same size for the CAYC and CXXB engines? Are the injector tips/nozzles the same for the CAYC and CXXB engines. I rang the 'local' Skoda dealer and they weren't sure if there was a difference (the last bolts bought from there were 10mm too short and they were ordered by chassis number). They said there is no difference in the injector tips but from previous things, I don't trust them. Thanks in advance.
  2. I can't say it has or hasn't. I know the car has been in the same state, other than emissions, for the past 3 years and no changes had been made to the exhaust and there hasnt been a problem. From what I've read about doing the dpf on one of these, it's not a quick job (unlike some I have done) and I know the car hasn't been off the road long enough to do it. There is a sensor next to what I thought was the dpf and on removing that, it looks like the horrible little filter is still intact (unless that is the cat).
  3. The emissions were a bit high but the smoke it kicked out under load was really bad. Everything I had done up until yesterday resulted in the amount of smoke coming out as in the video and a little more when it hits 5500rpm (on the limiter). Leaving the car in nd at 20mph and flooring the throttle no longer results in a black cloud behind me, so I've moved in the right direction.
  4. I know the car from day 1 and the original buyer was beyond meticulous. This included timing belts, high pressure fuel pump, servicing every 8k, batteries(2 of), starter motors, alternators and every receipt for anything (was a taxi, as you've guessed, so all receipts kept in date order). The 236k miles were done nearly all on the motorways and fast dual carriageways, the PO did mostly hospital and airport transport.
  5. On another note, I've just been informed that cleaning the turbo (as said by a member) has stopped the smoke on initial revs and the car is being taken for test again. Hopefully, it will be sorted and I can get it re plated.
  6. The vehicle is only being driven for repairs and quite within the law. It is not used as a daily. The other grey area is there is no set limit to the distance you can drive to a test station or repair station
  7. I contacted them because I am a taxi driver and anything I get charged with results in me losing my badge, ie, my job. If it fails in Feb, it fails and stays off the road until sorted as that is when dvla have it stated as the test running out. As a taxi, it is tested twice a year.
  8. Leak test on injectors happening tomorrow. No leaks on intake system. Fuel quality should be good, only run on V-Power and a cleaner every 4th tank. No fault codes at all. I'll personally look at the actuator tomorrow when the injectors get removed. No VCDS at present so can't give exact values. Because of the way the smoke is (see video), I'm thinking not enough air because of the turbo vanes not being as free as they should, as suggested on here. I would have checked movement today but I was working from 7-4:30. I'll do the mechanical stuff over the next few days and if still the same, I'll get it to the nearest VW dealer (I don't know of anybody with VCDS) for a readout. When I got the car, it used to blow out the smoke under load. With what has been done that is no longer happening, it is only doing on initial acceleration for about a second. Once the revs get up, it looks clean. I'm also putting it on a gas analyser tomorrow, just in case. As for the grey area, I thought it wasn't grey, a fail was a fail! It was why I contacted the police and DVLA and was told what I wrote earlier.
  9. Car was a taxi and subject to 2 tests per year. After asking the wonderful officers of the law, as king as the original test is within the valid dates and the car didn't fail on anything 'dangerous', I can still use it. On the DVLA site, the car is still tested until Feb 6th. I thought a fail was a fail but there are, seemingly, other circumstances. If it had failed on welding, brakes, steering or similar, it would be a different matter (their words, not mine). Currently not using the car as of such, either, just trying to sort this problem. I have a few to choose from....luckily.
  10. This was what the car failed it's MoT on. Once boost came on, the car was belching out black smoke and after cleaning the dpf, egr and all pipework, it puts out the small amount of smoke as you can see in the short video posted. I don't personally have access to VCDS, so I'm trying to get the things done that I can do myself. Cleaning out the turbo should have been on my list, as I cleaned all pipework feeding it from the egr and it was full of solidified gunk. Sadly, I forgot and it now being mentioned will have me doing it later.
  11. No fault codes and I have no idea about the boost pressure as we never checked that. I understand the black smoke usually means over fuelling so I'm going to remove the injectors (again) and either give them another strip and sonic clean(again) or replace them. It's bloody frustrating!
  12. The turbo is spot on, no play and appears to be working well.
  13. I drove in a low gear, 2nd and 3rd, for a good run (around 55 miles) and kept accelerating and braking due to the nature of the road...A590, Cumbria, UK. I also managed to hold a steady rom when I took the car between j36 and 37 on the M6...in 3rd. At a standstill, the rpm stops at 3k. As for feeling sick, it's bloody awful! Must add there is no map other than standard on the car
  14. Hope this has uploaded, I've had to cut quite a lot 20231231_120023.mp4
