Yeah, what’s that about?
I took my Octavia into Giltrap for two issues, the Navigation function on the Infotainment system doesn’t work and for $36,000 you think that they would give you a hi-fidelity CD or media player, with an SD card reader as all the literature refers to “insert your SD card into the SD card reader.
Giltrap had the car overnight and I now have wireless CarPlay which didn’t work before but no Navigation and no CD player with SD card reader.
I only purchased the 2022 Octavia in September 2023, it’s now December 2023 and the vehicle I test drove had an CD player with SD card reader, I remember this because the sales rep pointed it out.
So anyway, the initial response re the CD player was “that’s not the way technology has gone”. Really? I don’t give a **** what way you think technology has gone, I’m 55 years old and I want to be able to listen to music in my car in hi-fidelity, not undulating in low res over some streaming network via a telephone.
As for the Nav system, the official reply from Giltrap and Skoda NZ is:
”Good afternoon, I have heard back from Skoda NZ. They have confirmed your vehicle does not have navigation - it is turned off from factory.
Kind regards, xxxxx from Giltrap Skoda Newmarket 09 522 9922”
and
”Good afternoon, Skoda NZ have said they can not turn on the navigation.
Kind regards, xxxxx from Giltrap Skoda Newmarket 09 522 9922”
However, I want to know why Nav has been turned off and if it has been turned off, as they say, at “factory”, why can you still download the regional map update from the Skoda Portal.
The reality is that I don’t need the permission of Giltrap or Skoda to take it to an auto electrician and have them “turn” it back on. So that’s what I reckon I’ll do.
Meanwhile, I’m listening to high res digital files from a 4TB drive plugged into the USB-C. I happen to think that having 2 x USB-C ports for playing music from your telephone is just stupid. Exchanging a musical experience for musical convenience is the electronics industry reinventing things to sell to people that they already have.
Case in point, the CD, bi-wiring, USB-C, SONOS, anything Apple Mac and the list goes on but more so than anything else, phone charger accessories. It surprises me that government doesn’t legislate the f#%k out of phone charger accessories.
Love the car, hate the Infotainment system, give me a knob anytime, 4 track audio tape, 12 inch vinyl, anything analogue.
happy Skodering!
Rog Amour.
