  1. Well, that's it. Time to hang up my keys and move on. I've mostly been a lurker here enjoying watching the discussions and occasionally popping in my tuppence worth. After 88,000 and nearly 4 years of thrilling driving I've changed my car and went all corporate with a Merc Benz e-coupe 350 CDi. I will always have a soft spot for the VRS but priority now is selling it! any offers? Best of luck to all owners here and will maybe pop in and out occasionally just to reminisce and put a smile on my face.
  2. This week my car developed an annoying knocking from the front passenger wheel and on a 400 mile round trip then developed a terrible noise from the front of the car at about 70mph. Car was dropped in to local dealer and found to have a loose droplink (?). This was fixed under warranty but in driving the car today the noise remains.:rotz: Now, i took it to 80 and disengaged the engine (just in case it was engine noise) but the noise remained.... it's defo a new noise and i wouldnt say it was wind related.... so.... has this droplink thingy possible caused any damage or is it something else. (and yes, car is booked in for monday)
  3. for me it was Aviva. £100 cheaper than everyone else (incl Flux etc). Cant argue with that!
  4. Come on, we've all tried to fly but never managed it..... but keep practising... it is possible BBC NEWS | World | Europe | Car lands on church roof Maybe this should be in the Spotted: Was it you section. Since the owner is probably still in hospital i guess he/she wont be replying
  5. lol. I have to say that's initally why i didnt go for them however, i did think that they'd fit near perfectly into the bottom grill next to the fog lamps.
  6. Hi guys, Been thinking about adding daytime driving lights to the front of my black VRS however, unsure whether this would look good or just 'chavish'. I was looking at the Ring ones Vehicle Lighting - Accessory Lighting - Daytime Running/Daytime Styling - Ring Automotive which retail in Halfords for about £25. Today, i had a old style Superb up my chuff that had them fitted. I accelerated away from him to view them in the mirror only for the tube to think it was a race and come up my chuffer again! From what i saw they looked dull (I've got Xenons) and crass. Anyone fitted them, how do they look on a octavia and in general whats your thoughts on these?! Cheers
  7. looks brilliant. Partial to a bit of green and white
  8. I'm interested too! just been to the dealership cos the headlamp washers jammed (happened in the frost last year). They gave it the once over, fixed the jam and noticed the rear washer wasnt working either! The believe the leak is behind the dash - so car needs put in for at least one day for the dash to be removed and leak. Told not to use the rear wash just in case Gotta say - 10 outta 10 to them Re the factory fit: didnt even know that was an option!
  9. see mine below. from memory, it covers approx 15000 miles some pretty aggresive, some remarkably sedate (pipe and slippers worn out!)
  10. it's just the same as the Golf having 'VW' on the headlamp section (as Gilesme says!). I have to say i think it's these lil styling aspects that differentiates any car. Nice touch i think
  11. Hi guys, This query kinda relates to any thread about daylight lights... http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/led-daydriving-lights-octavia-ii-rs/123443/#post1441294 Anyways, i was listening to a radio2 programme about MEPs wanting us all to use daytime driving lights by 2012. As usual they did the usual of presenting both sides of the coin but the bit that got me was that driving with lights on during the day would cost £160 in fuel! Now i thought that the lights were free cos they worked off the battery!? Can anyone help explain this as i also quite often have my lamps on during the day on motorways? Cheers The 'Lhad
  12. Wonderbadger: That looks great - any chance you could send me a copy of the pic in a pm please. I'd like to replace the one ive got on my Pioneer system which i made up - it's pretty tacky :(
  13. furthest i've got is 468 (same as JJJ66) in my petrol VRs (that's 42.1mpg). Regularly get over 400miles per tank these days.... Is 500 possible?! 700 miles - are you sure someone wasnt filling it while you weren't looking That is bl00dy good going.
  14. just had my car serviced and was given the VRs diesel to drive for the day. Put it through it's paces and have to say I believe i made the right decision (for me) in going with the petrol. The major differences i noted was the noise and the turbo lag. In terms of mpg i've slowed down substantually and find the engine economy to be performing above my expectations. Good luck with what you choose anyway.
  15. Honestly never been close to what is quoted here in WhatCar.co.uk  Skoda Octavia Hatchback 2.0 TFSI vRS 5dr Performance & Measurements Review - What Car? Is there a faster car on the road?
  16. i have to say it's great to get over 40mpg. I manage to do it easily on motorways these days (relaxed driving between 60-70) with town driving bringing it down to a lower more expected average. One bizarre thing is that i quite often drive on the M8 between glasgow and edinburgh. It's dual carriageway and you rarely at peek time get about 60-65mph. Anyways, the bizarre bit is going to edinburgh i get 45-46mpg and coming back 38-39mpg. Either the wind makes a big difference or the hills do it - not sure which My mpg's from start of 2008 is below in the sig too!
  17. I suspect the freeview box is a "cost effective" model like those you mention on eBay. One mistake i made from my end is that the manufacturer is CKO, not CCO. Also the aerials are stcuk to the glass so not sure what you mean by magnetic.... only print on them is "20db TV Antenna Amplifier" Here are some pics: Aerial from outside: Aerial from Inside: TV Boot up Screen (with remote receiver at left of screen): TV Pic (BBC One Scotland) IPod Music Player Ipod Video Player (The Simpsons Movie) Sat Nat Mapping:
  18. After 11,000 miles my oil light came on yesterday and I went to buy some oil. I had heard from friends that the engine was oil hungry (which mines isnt) and VW/Skoda were very anal about using specific oil.... So, ended up in Halfords buying Castrol Edge at £43.99 I paid it and filled the car with the premium oil..... and then got home to surf the internet and found another forum mentioning that Castrol Edge is on sale at Costco for 15.99. Is this the best price around for this oil and does anyone have any other recommendations? Cheers
  19. I've got a TV tuner in mine but it's on a Pioneer AVIC D3 ICE. The freeview box (unbranded model but comes on saying CCO multimedia) is neatly hidden under the passenger front seat. The remote sensor is on the centre console next to the ICE. The TV aerials are on the front windscreen in the top corners and completely invisible unless really looking for them. The picture quality is great but occasionally gets interferance if you "accidently" switch it on when driving at motorway speeds (bizarrely loses signal at Blackhill in Scotland - next to the transmitters!). Remember that it is illegal to view a moving picture when the vehicle is in motion. Pretty sure VRStu can advise about the MFD situation... i know of a German company doing doofers when i looked into it for a family member with an Audi MMS system.
  20. I was in my local Skoda dealer last week getting a bit of work sorted on warranty and they had a poster up selling the BRAND NEW Oct 1 TDi's to taxi drivers..... I had noticed a lot of 57 plate taxi's in my area..... but where are they sourcing teh old shape from - they cant have been that many!?
  21. My preference is to stick with the current alloys. However, being a driver of a black vrs i've found simply by not washing the car, driving like a nutter and getting brake dust over the alloys.... they eventually turn black themselves! If you do change them it'd be neat to see a pic anyhows
  22. Aye, now I look a bit closer I notice the back wheels arent turning! bit of a giveaway!
  23. just messing on YouTube and found this german advert..... YouTube - Skoda Octavia RS what i can work out is how the Vrs does the handbrake turn and stays in perfect frame? There doesnt seem to be connection between teh camera and the car..... how is it done? However it's done.... as the tagline says: "Simply Clever"
  24. Starting to feel truly blessed. I really feel for you mate.... I've had trouble concentrating just thinking about when it was going to be delivered. I hope that is the last of your troubles and that the rest of your experience is a good one. Oh, and the first time I put the foot on the gas I'll be thinking of you in your 140tdi :P
  25. Number 1 is the closest! I ordered a new car that had to be built (see the options added at the bottom:eek: ) but insisted that they use one of the preorder motors that was about to be built.... as i understand it they order cars in advance and get told the build week.... up to a certain period before the build they can make all the changes they want --- therefore a normal VRS order became MY VRS order Thus kept it sweet with the offer for 18" wheels etc. I was driving through broxburn (east of scotland) today and saw a similar black VRS with all the white sheeting still on it... couldnt help myself but look at it... someone else in Scotland is also getting a new black VRS too.
