  1. Hi, After years of having a frustrating noise from around the air filter area, my local garage got to the bottom of it. It was the join from air intake to the filter box itself. apparently these have a rubber grommet/o ring as a seal to connect the two pipe parts together, which are made of plastic, and the seal was totally perished, hence giving a high rattly noise on acceleration over 2000 revs. My car is now a joy to drive, and I've turned the sterio down a bit as that used to mask the noise. total cost was just over £38, and worth every penny. I'm posting this as in the past few years I've noticed fellow owners asking for advice, and quick fixes, so hope it gives another avenue to pursue in fault finding. Many thanks to all the people who put me in the right area in the first place, as it sounded very exhaust manifold area initially, with obvious £££ implications.
  2. My rear door problem is now fixed, it was the broken wires leading into the rear door, and my local garage fixed the fault with some delicate soldering, and reinforcing the existing wires. Many thanks for all the advice given, all relevant, and finally led me to the solution.
  3. Hi, Thanks again, tried disconnecting battery, but no luck. I've had a look at the wires into the back door, and there seems to be one or two severed. I'm not sure if these are like this due to those wires not in use or what, but I am seeking help from my local garage on this, thanks for your help anyway.
  4. Any advice would be greatfully accepted. My octy 1.9 SDI 2001 Y reg, has it's rear passenger door locked permanently, and will not open by pulling the inside door catch. To be fair it's been playing up for a while but used to lock/unlock manually, now it's locked by the central locking, and will not release. The problem is, the screws to get the trim off are on the side of the door, which is shut!. If anyone has had this before, then I'm all ears. I bet vrs Stu knows? Thanks for looking anyway.
  5. My Octavia SDI is 7 years old and is very noisy under acceleration, is this the norm? I have had the exhaust checked at my local exhaust fitters, and it was fine, they thought it might be the under tray/sump guard which is loose, or the plastic cover for the top of the engine. It's fine on tickover. Any ideas?
  6. Hi, Has anyone experienced lots of exaust noise from the manifold area on this model, particularly around 3000revs when accelerating. I have had the exhaust checked and it is fine. The car has done 168k. If this is normal, has anyone got ideas on making it quieter! Thanks for looking
  7. Hi to one and all, just thought I'd throw this one in, what with the price of diesol at £5 a gallon now. Has anyone tried Biodiesol? I haven't, and would want certain assurances before doing so. Happy new year(belatedly due to my computer crashing) to one and all.
  8. Hi, I had a glow plug warning light come up, took it to my local dealer, and they replaced the brake switch, total cost £69. Problem solved, but the switch only cost around £7, so DIY fix would be good, but I have read of people getting into more trouble doing this, so I bit the bullet. Milkman
  9. I recently had a problem where my dash was flashing the glow plug engine management warning. This happened whilst driving, and came on suddenly. When I got home, I phoned my local dealer and booked in for the diagnostic test, to find the fault. They carried out the test at SMC Skoda in exeter, and took 40 mins. to find the fault, diagnosed as a faulty brake switch, which they fixed while I waited. Total time 1 and a half hours, but only 50 mins. to fix the fault. The switch was around £6.48p, and the bill, just under £69.00p. Now I know that the dealers have to make money, but I was abit miffed at being charged this amount for a relatively small job, I expect my local garage would have done it for £30 tops. Due to the nature of the glow plug warning, and your hand plug advising going to your nearest dealer, I wonder if this is the way to promote Skoda's back up customer service. I will say that the dealer staff were all very curteous and friendly, but I felt that I was given very little option but to use an expensive main dealer. I was also told that if a bulb had gone it might give the same warning! Has anyone else had this happen, I am chuffed to bits with my Octavia sdi and see 50+ mpg with out trying, and this would honestly be the only thing that would put me off another Skoda. Milkman
