  1. So there's the harmless component protection fault code I have now, or a complete lockout if I attempt an upgrade? Glad I found out before I broke everything!
  2. @pab567Check software version management is now gone, I remember doing that after a software update on an old MMI system in another car, also the Telephone Baseplate error has gone with your new long coding, the long coding helper didn't seem to even offer the solution so I really appreciate your help. Just need a newer cable to track down the final errors....
  3. @pab567 Thanks very much, I'll see if I can clear down the errors with my VCDS and try and find someone local who has a newer cable with UDS support and can help me for a beer or 2!!
  4. @pab567 Thanks for letting me know. I have an issue where Android Auto drops out and I was hoping that the bug was fixed in a newer FW, is there no safe way to do it?
  5. Doing some more investigation I'm now pretty confident that this is a retrofit. Decoding the options list from the factory, shown on the sticker in the wheel well (or at least it used to be on Audis, not sure if they still put it there) and in the owners book it shows: 7Q0 - Without navigation device I8E - Standard radio If anyone's interested I used the decoder here https://igorweb.org/equidec.aspx
  6. I've just got an Octavia Mk3 MY16 with a system that I think is a retrofit. Either way is there a software update available for this please? @pab567 reading this thread you seem to be the man, so thanks in advance if you are able to assist.
  7. My second post as a new member and Octavia owner. Buying a used car means you can't pick the options it comes with, although having VCDS you can often retrofit them, especially with the help of members of forums like this. The car is an automatic, but currently doesn't have the paddles, I'm not fussed either way whether the new wheel has them of not, I never used them on any previous cars! My question is what parts do I need? Having previously done this retrofit in an Audi A3 with paddles and an A6 without my guess would be that I need; A new wheel with controls, maybe an 5E0419091BQ - the current one is a 3 spoke so I want to be able to reuse the airbag A new slip ring? On my A6 the slip ring for the standard wheel needed replacing. Current ring is 5Q0953549E New airbag loom that adds the steering wheel switches on for the yellow connector, I believe part 5E0971584A I've seen BCM mentioned in other posts about MFSW retrofit and don't know whether I'll need a replacement. My current one is 5Q0937084AL, I'm hoping I don't! Any other parts? Once I've fitted them all it's just some coding I guess? Any pointers for that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  8. I'm a new member of Briskoda having just picked up a MY16 Octavia at the weekend. It's technically my wifes but I love it already! I have a couple of questions, I have VCDS, having previously had some other VAG cars and did a scan before purchase. A selection of faults as they had clearly never been cleared, some had occurred multiple years ago. Cleared them down and fortunately none have returned. The only faults there are relate to 5F infotainment; ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 5F: Information Electr. Is this likely to be a retrofit? If it is then thanks a lot to the previous owner as it's great! However I'd like to be able to clear the faults. Any suggestions form anyone gratefully received. My initial guess would be that I need to go and change the long coding as some of the faults relate to features that aren't installed, such as the Telephone baseplate
