Approved Used SE First Edition : Problems
Yes given the overall checks have been fine, I’ll stay put. My guess is, this is ex-management, hence the ignorance. But for now I’ve requested a written acknowledgment of my email detailing what they have to do.

Approved Used SE First Edition : Problems
They havent said yes nor a no. But they will have a look at the plastic bits. I did get a check through carmoola and autotrader which they advertise as free when you get a budget from them. Do you think it is worth buying now? Must be a rocker to drive, has loads of torque. Glad you had a great experience, I would be hopeful of something like that too. They have said they will look at it once it comes in, will see if they do.

True, it is a joy to drive and suspension is very comfortable as well. The plastic bits surrounding the rear AC vents, they’re scuffed heavily, I had ignored it citing cosmetic issues (amounting to 300£ incl labour), but I can ask them to replace it.

I’m thinking of giving them a chance and also asking them to throw in the rear console replacement. If they agree, all well and good. I love the brand, it’s just a shame how everything has been with mk4, never heard of so many issues with a Škoda before.

Approved Used SE First Edition : Problems
Something about the entire thing rubs me the wrong way. They had their service, inspections and MOT done and all of that skipped through everything listed. On the other end, he (sales manager) has called me multiple times and is adamant I should give them one chance to fix everything listed and return the car with a full fuel tank with a free courtesy car for the duration. If it still doesn't sit well with me, I can reject it.

Approved Used SE First Edition : Problems
I dont think they will agree to get it repaired at Marshall Reading, weirdly reluctant to do that. In any case, all of this makes me think that the car was not looked after at all, they have subtly engaged in Unfair Trade practices by disclosing a falsified check report. I had also noticed a completely scuffed rear ac console and some hairline scratches on the left passenger window only visible under light, but I ignored these thinking it doesn't matter or I will get the console plastic bits replaced. But now with all these issues, collectively I feel it is just a vehicle which was not given proper care. I got it for a good price. But the ignored car aspect of it is very troubling for me. I like to take care of my things extensively, this doesnt hold up to that standard in any way. If the issues were pointed out before sale (even after fixing), I might've looked elsewhere because it indicates ignorance that the car has had to deal with.

So, the sales manager and head of business have discussed this. The sales manager tried to push it on me, that you test drove it etc etc. I was adamant that I want to reject it because of mis-selling. He wants an opportunity to fix everything. They have offered to collect the car from my place, drop a courtesy car and then fix all the issues. What do you guys think? I am still leaning towards rejection, do I have valid grounds? @spcdust @Rooted @Gaz

Approved Used SE First Edition : Problems
Just sent in an email, I have asked to facilitate rejection of the vehicle. The rear tyres need replacing, all four discs and pads, split shock dust covers, all the modules I pointed out are throwing fault codes (SOS, climate, infotainment control units/ microcontrollers). I wonder how this car passed their MOT or the "Approved" inspection, a massive red flag. The bill from the inspection report is at £988.25 for a car that passed it's inspections and MOT in the past few weeks, even if they fix this, who is to say they would do it reliably or have not hidden other issues from me. Looks like a thoroughly ignored car landed up on their steps and they've done the same thing and moved it along. I was really excited about my first Škoda (a brand I have always admired) and this has soured my experience unbelievably. That being said, I still love the brand and would still probably go for a Škoda next (with a lot of rigorous checks before finalisation). The sales person acted all surprised when pointing this out, let's see how they respond. Should I marking anyone else in the email or forward it to someone higher up?

I haven’t emailed them yet. Just drafting it up. I’m going to go for mis-selling and go for rejection. Does it sound valid ? It has been literally 4 days since I’ve bought it.

@spcdust, @Gaz the result from the check. And the report they provided. Does this count as gross mis-selling ? SDKN70AZC.pdf

I’ll keep you guys updated. Thanks a lot for the support!

Thanks for that, I’m really feeling much more optimistic now that I’ve communicated with you guys. What I’ve noticed across dealerships is that they provide minimum information and minimum support in getting you the best deal or car, their intention is that you will come in and take the car they give for the price they offer it for. I suppose an overwhelming number of people must do this and the dealerships profit the most out of it by doing bare minimum. It’s easy to only support if someone asks for it. It’s like the Larsen and Ford Pinto case (attached if you’re interested).

For the checklist, I’m more concerned that they never conducted any checks. If they didn’t, they’ll have to create a checklist and send it to me. In this case, now that I have flagged an issue, that should technically be present, if its present they sold a faulty car, if it’s not, they didn’t check it (because disc warping which I suspect has happened, won’t happen and develop so quickly). More grounds for me to hold them accountable. What do you think? Because of the event, I’ve been given 2 services 2 years warranty and 2 MOTs included, which is a great deal tbh.

Thanks for this, just sent in the email to request the multipoint checklist. Some thing like this :https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/f34b1953-0f64-43be-8914-258ecdb48f44

Ohh that’s pretty useful, really appreciate it!! I’ll let them know if they’re resistant. I haven’t paid attention to the climate setting issue, I’ll check that too.

Thanks for the clarity, my train of thought as well. Brake judder is an issue with actual mechanical performance, which is concerning. I’m not worried about other issues as much, one of the reasons I went ahead with the purchase. The brake issue was only evident as widespread after I faced it myself. Also, if they’re adamant there’s no infotainment update, I can do it myself, I have the 1969 file, but I’m not risking bricking or voiding anything especially given the car has been bought just recently. For the firmware they can do it in their own time until it’s resolved.

Approved Used SE First Edition : Problems
Once I get them to confirm the issues on Tuesday, I will ask for it to be fixed for free and also a courtesy car. I’m not sure how will Marshall deal with it but I’ve heard good things about them from a service perspective. I have shelled out for an extended warranty package, if they’re going to charge me something for any of these ‘already-present’ faults, then I must deem it not fit for purpose and reject.

That’s wonderful and something I needed to hear at this point. Thanks a lot !! I’ve heard the MK3 is solid, maybe they should’ve stuck to the same formula until this year’s complete revamp.

True, thinking I should’ve listened to What Car? Reliability survey now, lol. sure here’s some posts around the shuddering issue: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/505182-low-mileage-skoda-octavia-hatch-mk4-brake-issues/ https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/501971-brake-juddering/ https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/497435-brake-discs-and-wheel-bearings/ https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/520043-vibrations-getting-worse-106000km/

Agreed, there are countless posts I’ve seen with people extremely satisfied after the recent updates. I made the decision to buy it also based on the enjoyable drive and efficiency. My worry is for the brake system, if it has gone bust now at such a low mileage, how would it fare in the long term? Some have seen it resurfaced in 2 weeks and some in 18 months, very concerning.

After reading the experiences in this forum, I would take an inordinate amount to research the car model and engine and trim if (at all!) buying a VAG car again. It is just a very souring experience when the car is basically perfect on other counts. The build is solid and features even on the SE trim are amazing. My previous Auris was not a great joy to drive but it was practically faultless even after 140k miles.

I believed their inspection given the age and mileage, but I will now get it checked holistically. Yes, I saw that forum to verify in case I missed something. Also consulted the manual. I checked it at higher speeds and still nothing.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll go in on Tuesday and get it updated, the local Marshall seems to be much more cooperative than the one I bought from. I have started writing down the issues in detail, I’ll also note the expected resolution from the document.

Thanks for the reply. Brake shudder wasn’t noticeable on the test drive. It was only evident on a longer drive back from Milton Keynes. I flagged it as soon as possible. There is some squealing noise as well (only noticeable if I turn the music off fully), No ABS light on, also no brake pad deposit on the disc. Regarding the dealer, he was trying to get me on to a higher rate PCP despite the approved used event going on. I gave him the benefit of doubt since he was just started a few months before, but now makes me think he knew the issues beforehand too. How was the inspection report clean if the firmware and infotainment needs updating and also has shoddy brakes? I love the car in general but I don’t want be bothered dealing with unreliable parts on a regular basis if the current situation is anything to go by.
