  1. It happened again on Sunday, had to get breakdown out for a jump start. Clicking sound several times, with one time in between where it made the more typical trying-to-turn-over-but-the-battery-is-flat noise. I’d left the car for 30 minutes with the lights on and the stereo playing for my daughter while I got groceries. Obviously the lights was me being an idiot (got de-skilled by two weeks with a flash courtesy car that had auto lights). But that comes after 700 miles driven over ten days with lights mostly off while driving and little electrical use. I’d like to think I could be an idiot from time to time without the car not starting… or AIBU? Ootophere I’m calming down about the camchain - thinking that if I service zealously, warm it up before I drive, and keep my ears open I should at least delay a problem and catch it before the engine goes bang? 🫣 Looking at insurance quotes, they are valuing mine at £3990, in line with your newer model edbostan and I guess dealer prices always exceed insurance replacement estimates by a chunk. I’m going to get estimates from my garage for battery / alternator / starter system /relay fault and see what the dealer will offer to avoid a return. Got to be to his advantage and delays me paying £200 to fix the rear seat belt my idiot dog has chewed through!
  2. Hello Briskoda, first post here! Hope someone can advise…. 8 days ago I bought a 2012 Skoda Roomster SE TSi 105 S-A with 57K on the clock from a dealer. Partial service history. Had it checked by the AA first. Been chuffed for 500 miles but then yesterday after a 40 minute sit it wouldn’t start. Made a sort of clicky-whirring sound. (video attached) There was a garage 100 yds away. Mechanic kindly came over, it started fine for him but he said it’s a terrible engine, chain goes, shouldn’t have paid more than £3k (it cost £5.5), take it back to the dealer as it’s within 30 days. My mechanic drove it today and said it’s fine. Engine number is CBZB606404 but don’t know if it’s S or M in terms of assessing risk of timing chain problem (2015 post by Xman) I’m a bit exhausted at the thought of returning it and starting the search for a car all over again, but the £5.7k spent so far has wiped me out. Major repairs would be a stretch and engine failure would be a disaster. Any thoughts on why it didn’t start? Likelihood of recurrence? How great is the risk of a chain problem between unlikely and probably? Should it go back? TYVM for any insights… IMG_4660.mov
