  1. Cheer....Yea looks like it needs lengthened. Just been reading one of your posts actually on this. Hopefully not done too much damage, don't fancy changing it out again. I'll go at it half a turn and see where we are using VCDS. Thanks, Andy
  2. Cheers...Just double checking myself and that I've not missed anything before adjusting it, that's all Thanks, Andy
  3. Afternoon all. Been a while since I've posted on here. I'm struggling with intermittent boost issues. The car is a '56 plate VRS, 1.9 BLT engine 145,000 miles. The car is intermittently lacking power in the low revs, with smoke, but does boost OK other times. Analysis with VCDS leads me to believe that following its replacement, the turbo is producing too much boost and the actuator stem require adjustment I'm after backing these thoughts up please and advice on the best way of adjusting the actuator. There's many posts and info about on this but the best way I can see is trial and error. I've a mightyvac so open to suggestions / knowledge of OEM settings (if available...I can't locate them). Background I changed the turbo last year (August 2017) for a re-con turbo (standard spec). The turbo was from London Turbos and set-up on the flow bench. Fully understand that there's info out there to say that the actuator may not be set correctly for my car. Ever since fitting the turbo, the car has never run as it did before. A lot of the time, you put you foot down, and you can hear boost, but no power and black smoke. And the power eventually comes along. This seems to get better when warmer but picks and chooses. It runs OK sometime. No errors logged, no warning lights etc. This happened immediately after fitting the new turbo. Initially a new EGR actually fixed this. Then it came back again. Unplugging EGR vacuum cured this and then eventually it came back again. I fitted another new EGR valve a few weeks ago and it made no difference. Unplugging the vacuum to the EGR now makes no difference. I even blanked the EGR exhaust port and this made no difference I've carried out diagnosis according to the workshop manual: https://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/fabia-mk1/drive_unit/1.9/96_tdi_engine_mechanics/exhaust_turbocharger_g-charger/charge-air_system_with_exhaust_gas_turbocharger_part_2/checking_charge_pressure_control/ Basic Setting 04, Group 11: At idle the boost appears to be OK: I get ambient pressure of 984 mbar and an intake pressure of 1188 mbar, where the max allowable is said to be 1234 mbar This was derived from the workshop manual stating to add 100 to 250 mbar to the ambient pressure measurement Logging Group 11 The manual does state to do this in 2nd gear but I've done it in 3rd. Nevermind, same difference. So going by the manual, the advised boost pressure at 3000 RPM should be 2100 and 2600 mbar. Now sometimes it is but sometimes it is over and logging between 2700 and 3000 mbar. I've attached a plot running up the Revs and one showing boost over a longer period of runs, The first plot shows a run in 3rd gear The second plot shows the expected vs actual pressure over a number of runs, just to show the boost spiking Any advice much appreciated Many Thanks, Andy
  4. EGR changed and seems to have sorted it
  5. That’s correct mate. The turbo was changed as the shaft snapped. Instant failure. Like for like fitted. Cheers.
  6. Unfortunately I haven’t got vcds. I know someone that does so could give that a try. Got the mot next week so really need to sort it I find it strange that this happened just after fitting a new turbo. Really struggling with it
  7. Vacuum line looks fine mate. Thinking of trying a new EGR. When idling, with vacuum to the valve, there’s a strong smell of exhaust from the vent hole. Unplug the vacuum and the smell goes and you can hear the turbo speed/load changes. As I understand it there should be a small amount of vacuum at idle, which there is, opening the valve somewhat. Maybe the stem could be damaged (scored) and as it is opening the damaged area of the stem is in contact with the seal, causing boost to leak through the vent?? No error codes. Cheers
  8. Afternoon all, Really in need of some help please. I changed the turbo on my car the other month. No problem. Went to drive it and plooms of black smoke and a boost leak were evident with lack of power. Checked and double checked everything. All ok. Unplugged the EGR valve and everything is fine. Except obviously a warning light. Aware of EGR delete etc but keen to get to the bottom of this. Ive replaced the EGR cooler today as I thought maybe this was leaking and replaced the gaskets. its still suffering the same problem. I replaced the EGR about this time last year. Ahyone any ideas? Really struggling. Disconnecting the EGR makes the car run fine. I find it too much of a coincidence for the EGR to be shot again just as I’ve replaced the turbo. Any help would be great please 56 Reg BLT by the way. Cheers. Andy
  9. Hi all, I had to replace the oil filter housing as a thread was stripped. Got a second had one off eBay. Used new bolts and gasket. Its leaking significantly. Like a good flow of oil past the gasket. Has anyone has such a problem? Just making sure I've not missed anything...maybe the sealing face is warped? Looks like a another new housing / repairing the thread on the existing one. It was fine before. Any help much appreciated. Thans. Andy.
  10. Haha, quite correct. The turbo is well and truly gone. just a few manifold nuts left and it'll be off. Got a remanufactured unit from London turbos. Very reasonable price. Thanks anyway though mate!
  11. Hi there I've broken down this morning with suspected turbo issues. The car started making a howling sort of noise on boost. It almost sounded like it was coming from the exhaust. And then eventually made a sort of sucking noise and then no boost. There was no black smoke, no loss of oil etc. The car drives but with no noticeable boost. No black smoke etc. It's a 56 plate BLT engine. It's not the intercooler hoses. Could the actuator be stuck? Any help much appreciated, thanks in advance. Andy
  12. Hi Not posted here for a while Struggling to get a hold of this part. Skoda have it on back order and can't say when it'll be available. Really need on of these. Has anyone had any luck with these or a similar part, as there's a lot of similar ones. No idea if they fit Any help would be great please Thanks. Andy
  13. I had exactly the same problem on the way to work this morning. Thought I was going crazy!
  14. Sounds reasonable to me. Thanks for that mate
  15. Actually reading that again maybe mine is not sat right.
