  1. I believe that I have found what could have been causing my high fuel consumption on my Fabia vRS. From my previous thread I was only managing 47mpg on my daily commute of 100 miles. Having seen afew threads on EGR cleaning, I decided to give it a go. Whilst in the process in removing the elbow pipe from the intercooler to the EGR valve I noticed that the pipe was not quite flush with the EGR valve assembly. It became obvious that the two lugs which locate in a slot secured by a clip was not fully located. It was being held by one lug and the other was just off. Having properly located the two lugs, the fuel economy has improved to about 55mpg (more respectable). I am not sure as to whether this is the sole cause but it has made a difference. I have previously experienced the pipes coming apart near the upper pully assembley, which results in a lot of black smoke and no power what so ever. This has often been mistaken by turbo failure (thank god not). I will get round to cleaning the EGR valve. Has anyone experience any major change after cleaning it??
  2. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHETHER THE EGR VALVE CAN BE REMOVED WITHOUT HAVING TO REPLACE THE BOTTOM EXHAUST GASKET. I HAVE NOT GOT A NEW ONE AND I WAS CONSIDERING RE0USING THE OLD ONE?
  3. Thanks Auric. I thought that they were fitted as original items. I have noticed a few threads on fitting them and upgrading to Sharan springs to stop the binding issues.
  4. Just recently noticed an increase in fuel consumption on my Fab Vrs. I commute 100 miles daily mainly A roads and usually achieve a respectable 53 MPG. The last few weeks saw it drop to 45MPG. Having investigated further and ruled out the MAF, it was observed that the rear brakes were binding with the handbrake off. I could still turn them with reasonable force though. I serviced the calipers and used a swiss file to clean the metal guide clips. I reassembled the units and applied decent Rocol copper slip to the sliding edges. However, apart from this I noticed that my return springs were missing off the handbrake assembly on the caliper, which probably explains the problems I had experienced. I am baffled as to where they had gone and find it amazing that both had gone. Has anyone else experienced the phenomena!!!! :|

  6. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REMOVE AND CLEAN EGR VALVE ON FABIA VRS. THERE IS NOT MUCH IN THE HAYNES MANUALS ON THIS? ALSO ARE THERE ANY GASKETS TO PURCHASE ETC ?
  7. I commute 100 miles a day in it for past 2 years. It has a pipercross filter which is clean as a whistle. New MAF about 3 months ago with PD160 intake mod. There does not appear to be any power drop but it is a bit lumpy at tickover and low revs.
  8. I have noticed that since my timing belt was changed along with the water pump, my fuel consumption has increased from an average of 52 mpg to around 45 mpg. I have read threads on sticky rear calipers and I know that mine need a clean/service as they are sticking a bit. I would be surprised that sticky brakes would have such adramatic effect on fuel consumption. My main concern is that the mechanic may have fitted the cambelt off true slightly i.e. one or two notches. Would I notice a major difference with this possibility? or should I just worry about the slightly sticky brakes? has anyone experienced incorrectly fitted cambelts? Broadbean
  9. Can anyone supply me with the Skoda part number for the Rear wiper blade cover and the pivotal cover over the rear spray nozzle etc. Regards Broadbean PS: For some reason the VAG Catalogue is not workibng online at the moment
  10. Does anyone know the skoda part number for the rear wiper assembly including spray nozzle plastic cover?
  11. Dear All, I have had my VRS in the garage several times over the last few weeks due to the rear wash not working. The connection at the front bulkhead in the Engin bay had blown off due to a blockage or so we thought. We removed the tailgate cover to get acces to the pipework and blow it through with an air gun. This proved unsuccessful, as only a dribble came out at the other end. After abit of head scratching and further investigation we noticed the nearside rear passenger carpet is wet. It now looks like the pipe has disconnected due to ice or debris within the channeling on the near side. Does anyone know where the pipe connector is on this side (if there is one) and is it easily accessible? I do not want to strip all panels as clips do break easily. Any suggestions or help would be grateful Cheers Andy
  12. I have aproblem with my beloved Fabia VRS, in that in this cold weather the ABS and Brake Warning lights are coming on initially and are taking about an hour to reset. This reset will only happen when I stop and restart the vehicle. What I would like to know has anyone out there experienced this before, is it common and should I be now worried? I know I should not drive with it on but this only seems to be happening since this cold snap. Cheers Andy
  13. Moggy, Thanks for the advice. Funny old thing that is exactly what I have done but with Zip Clips instead. The seals are not ideal and the clips are even worse, especially the ones for the bottom pipe under left headlight unit.
  14. Having read several threads on the issue of black smoke I decided to investigate further. My VRS was showing signs of this under hard acceleration or when labouring in too high a gear etc. I travel 100 miles each day to work and back and have also noticed a 5mpg increase in fuel consumption. Last week one of my intercooler hoses blew off and of course this caused masses of black smoke and a complete loss of power. The reason the hose blew off was the fact that the small pulley on the left side of the engine had slowly rubbed against the securing clip of the hose and eventually it rubbed right through until it blew off. Having changed the seals and associated pipes there has been a marked improvement. There is now hardly any smoke!!!. I am beginning to wonder whether over time all the seals on the intercooler may get tired and leak out thus giving the increase in black smoke. Has anyone else experienced this and had the same effect on renewing the hoses??
  15. Has anyone else read the October edition of 'Which'. They have carried out thorough tests on most brands of additives, including Millers Power sport 4 (which I have been using!!). To sum up everone tested had no benefit to performance or fuel economy, so basically all are a waste of time.
  16. Does anyone know where I can purchase anew set of Turbo intercooler intake hoses. The ones on the left hand side of the engine next to fuel filter (which rub on the top pulley wheel). Mine have rubbed and caused a small gap on the connection? A parts list blow up diagram would be helpful to identify the parts I require. I also require the chevron 'O' seals at both ends?
  17. Hi, I have had my furbi VRS for over 2 years and commute 100 miles daily. The accuracy of the Computer is debateable. I have averaged 53-54 mpg. This is down by brimming the tank till you can see the diesel settle about an inch below the filler and reset the trip meter. The computer on my car seems generous about 4mpg too high. My Car is starting to puff out smoke when dropping a gear and I am now also considering changing the MAF sensor as they do degrade. Another point of note is that when cars are remapped the onboard computer does not recognise the true mpg. Another thing that may possible affect the fuel consunption is small leaks developing on the intake hoses of the turbo. These can become loose over aperiod of time and on some occasions actually pop off under hard acceleration. I am a time served diesel engineer and have experience with tuning these PD engines. Getting over 60mpg is extremely good for a VRS even doing motorway mileage at 70mph.
  18. I have a 2004 plate Fabia Vrs and I have purchased an upgrade bulb set. I am interested in how you can change these without removal of the front bumper or under engine protection plate. I have read a few threads but they are not totally clear. They do mention working from the rear side of the bumper and a cut out. I would be greatful for any advice.
  19. Dear All, Does anyone know where I can purchase a black magic coloured grille for a Fabia Vrs. There was one on Ebay, but I was outbid. I would appreciate any info on styling addition websites to visit etc. Regards Broadbean:cool:

  21. Dear All, I am looking to replace the rear bumper on my beloved fabia VRS (in Black Magic). Colour is not priority, but Black Magic would be preferable. I would be grateful if anyone can assist. Please note that other than ordering via Skoda Dealers, these bumpers are like finding Rocking Horse **** ! Cheers Bean
  22. I have tried this Breakers with no joy, but thanks for the info and help. Cheers
  23. Johnny 50, I would be grateful for the contact details of the breaker yard. Cheers Andy Skoda fabia VRS 130
  24. Dear All, Does anyone know where I can get my hands on agood condition rear bumper for Fabia VRS, preferably in black magic colour? Cheers Andy:mad:
  25. The Dealer is asking £250 -300, but he requires my engine number first as there appears to be 2 types on the system.
