Apple CarPlay Head Unit Problems
Bit of a strange one today. I am by no means any good with electrics but have tried to troubleshoot the problems I have had with my head unit. Firstly, the head unit is an EONON head unit and has been fine since I fitted it three weeks ago, however today I installed jbl door speakers and an Edge subwoofer into my 2004 Fabia vRS. (I also spliced in a boost gauge to the live and ground wires for the head unit to power the back light on the gauge at the same time). It worked great for around 40 minutes of playing until suddenly the head unit and boost gauge went out. The subwoofer still had power straight from the battery. Upon investigation, none of the fuses relevant to the radio or interior had blown at all. Using a multimeter, I discovered that there was no Voltage between the ground and live wires for the head unit. As a test, I have rigged up a live wire with a 25A in line fuse straight from the battery to the splice between the head unit and boost gauge. Interestingly the boost gauge illuminates but the head unit still does not power on. Have I blown the head unit? Strange that the head unit would blow as well as a break in the live wire somewhere at the same time. I don’t know enough to make it make sense so hoping someone will help. Thanks.

Again, a matter of personal opinion and taste…

Well, the whole soot meaning lost power topic is controversial. Whilst yes it is unburnt fuel meaning it could be burnt in the cylinders making more power, darkside developments have suggested that larger quantities of black smoke are unavoidable once reach the 250 bhp and upwards mark, so it’s really neither here nor there. However all of this is irrelevant - because if I and a lot of the rest of the mk1 dabia vrs community want this to happen to our cars, then it will. My original question was simply do I need a map to take the cat off - no I don’t, thankyou very much, thread closed.

1 more vehicle out of the tens of thousands that are already decatted will hardly make much of a difference to the environment. I have athsma myself lol. I’m not financially in a position to buy a track car, I just want a daily that I can enjoy and take to events with like minded people who simply are enthusiastic about modifying cars. Calling the whole community half wits is hardly inclusive and I don’t really appreciate, but thanks again for your opinion… Never knew a question about something technical would cause so many ethical and opinionated responses!

That’s why you have a friend that works at a garage lol. Or bolt the original exhaust and cat back on for it.

Thankyou for your opinion… Ultimately I’m building my car for no one but myself so if I think smoke would make me like it more, then that’s what I’ll do because it is my car at the end of the day.

So your saying all these videos online of pd130s pouring out black smoke from the back have got cats? I doubt it. I’ve had 3 TDI engined cars now, one of which had a dpf separate to the cat and I gutted the dpf first, then the cat. The cat definitely made a big difference in smoke! Plus, we all know diesel exhaust sounds are rubbish compared to anything petrol, but to even attempt to compete with the volume of most petrol cars with a sports exhaust it has to be fully straight through to make a difference in my personal experience. I don’t understand why you are so against the idea?

Alright then, at the very least it’ll allow for some cool black smoke when I do eventually get it mapped!

The first of many mods to come. Should make a big difference in sound as the exhaust I’m getting includes muffler delete and everything. Secondly should allow for smoother exhaust gas flow translating to faster turbo spool once the power is increased significantly. Just trying to do the bits I can do without mapping to save having to get it mapped over and over!

Looking to put a full straight through turbo back decat system on my newly acquired mk1 Fabia vRS, wandered if anyone new if it will need a remap to drive without warning lights without the cat or if it will bolt on no maps needed because it is of course pre-dpf era.

Wet footwell
Depends how long the water was sat there for. If it were me I’d sit a dehumidifier in there overnight to get any remaining moisture out the car and hope for the best, but only one way to know for sure by ripping carpets up.
