Hi,
I’ve bought my first Škoda and it needs some attention. The previous owner drove normally when the EPC and traction control light came on. He drove it to a shop that thought it was a bad TPS after reading the car. This only lead to more problems since they were not able to align the throttle body. Another shop took over and couldn’t do the alignment either and after a diagnosis their best guess was that the ecu was bad.
I bought the car and read out the following codes:
- P1579: throttle valve control unit: adaptation not initiated
- 01309: Implausible signal, Power steering control module
- 00883: Electrical fault in circuit, Ignition/starter switch (Terminal S)
- 01316: No signal, Brake control module
- 01333: Defective, Left rear door control unit
- 01334: Defective, Right rear door control unit
The cars runs good with pretty good pedal response and no obvious hick-ups.
So, it seems like an electrical problem and I understand why the shop would think it was the ECU. But I also know that it was not a thorough daignosis and I want to be sure before ordering parts.
This is what I’ve done so far:
- New battery
- Inspected wire loom (pretty thorough but it would be possible that I’ve missed something)
- Measured the resistance to all grounds which checked out
- Measured the CAN-bus through the OBD port, and are getting 2,5V from both H and L (is this normal?)
- Resistance between the CAN H and L checks out (about 66ohms)
- Took out the ECU and checked the connectors for visible damage
Is there something obvious that I’m missing? Do these cars have any common place on the loom that is prone to brake? Could this be caused by any other module beside the ECU?
If I do come to the conclusion that it needs a new ECU, what is the easiest way to do this? I’ve read up a bit on ECU cloning, could that be a solution? If I buy a second hand ECU, is there something else that needs replacing? Ignition etc?
Thanks in advance!
