This a great forum that I have come across. I love Skoda's
Hoping you more experienced members can help me.
I had a Skoda MK3 2016 diesel 2.0 that I absolutely loved. Unfortunately someone crashed into it outside my house and it's written it off. What a workhorse that was. I'm now upgrading.
There's a Skoda for sale that I am looking at.
I do roughly 500 miles a week driving only one day a week. So it's a lot of motorway miles.
I have seen the following car for sale.
Skoda Octavia Se Technology 2.0 Tdi Estate.
1 owner, 2 keys, FSH.
Very good condition all round.
Registered Dec 2020 - on a 70 plate.
Facelift model.
142K.
Direct from leasing company TCH.
Full Skoda service history:
20k, 42k, 63k, 99k, 121k, 139k.
Just serviced 2,000 miles ago.
Just had cambelt and pump done by Skoda 800 miles ago.
Needs 2 new tyres.
MOT due in weeks. No issues on last MOT.
i was all up for buying it. It was on at £7,500. The advert said no issues or faults. When I pushed, I was told the following:
'the Octavia has a slight catch sometimes if changing rapidly between 3rd and 4th. Perfectly fine if driving and changing gear normally. The front tyres will need changing shortly .'
'Can’t give you a guarantee, that’s why I’ve offered to reduce the price by £500.'
'’ive rung three gearbox specialists in leeds. All said it’s the syncro and fully repaired it’s £750.But can be driven for years before any further deterioration. However , I can have it fully repaired with a years guarantee but the car will then be for sale for £8495.'
Its been up for sale for around 1 month.
I was initially told £7400.
Now he has come down to £6900.
A used gearbox from a 2022 plate sold on eBay recently for £630. That was just 2 minutes looking.
I've seen a post on here from a guy with a Fabia who had issues from gear 1 to 2 and he sorted it by topping up with a better quality oil. Most likely the oil level was low.
My thoughts are the price looks decent.
I like the colour and the look.
The fuel efficiency will be even better than my MK3 which was amazing.
The gear issue might not be significant.
I want the car for 2-3 years and will add maybe 60K to the clock. 200k on these doesn't scare me at all. I had my MK3 since 108k and it was on 175k when it was written off. I always felt it was nothing for these cars.
Any advice on the price please and what I should do going forward?
