  1. thanks for the tips folks. For better or worse I've gone for some Accelera X-Grip 4S. I've cleared oponeo out of stock and ordered the other two from camskill - i've never used either before. I don't normally go for budget tyres but frankly some of the prices for the Vredestein were eye-watering - almost 300 quid a corner on some sites, unfitted. (Made oponeo's original £164 look positively bargain!) I may live to regret the choice, but at £300 for the whole car vs. almost a grand for the Vredestein, it's an acceptable risk for now. Hopefully with a bit better planning I can get the Vredestein next time! The whole cybermonday thing just never occurred to me!
  2. They've actually been on the phone this morning to say they only have 1 and ain't getting any more (at least not for some time) 😕
  3. Thanks, I'll give them a try... they were showing at other places too - eg. oponeo - but after I'd ordered they called back and cancelled on me 😞
  4. I'm having a nightmare getting all season tyres for my Superb Sportline 280 - official size is 235/40 R19... I really wanted to try all-season tyres because I don't have space to keep another set of wheels but I would like a bit of extra grip in winter esp. since I got the 4x4 for that purpose also. They seem to be rare in that size though I did find Vredestein Quatrac 5 235/40R19 96 on oponeo but they have called an cancelled my order and said they only have 1 in stock, have waited a week to see if they get more, and sounds like maybe they won't 😞 That's the second place that has let me down... Some places have suggested other sizes but that's really my last resort (car is mapped and I don't really want to be compromising too much) Happy for any advice, experiences, suggestions for alternatives.
  5. I believe the mk7 golf R has this box, but i wouldn't take that as gospel DQ381 Transversal 7 420-430 Wet
  6. Current torque max is 350nm according to Skoda. It’s quite detuned compared to the same engine in the golf R. So a map to 480nm is a hell of an increase...
  7. In the past I've mapped a vRS (manual) and to be honest, never thought twice about the torque limits of the clutch, just drove it nicely. I now have an MY2018 superb 280 and am tempted by a stage 1 map, but I don't want to wreck the DSG :) This looks interesting - I used BSR in the past without issue - but the claimed gains are pretty big.. http://www.bsr-tuning.co.uk/products/t3085/ which, assuming the figures are real, begs the question: can the DSG box handle the torque? I've always heard it said that DSG boxes are good for lots more torque, but wikipedia shows this: List of DSG variants[edit] Name Orientation Ratios Max. torque (N·m) Clutch type DQ200 Transversal 7 250 Dry DQ250 Transversal 6 400 Wet DQ380[19] Transversal 7 380 Wet DQ381 Transversal 7 420-430 Wet DQ400e Transversal 6 400 Wet DQ500 Transversal 7 600 Wet DQ511 Transversal 10 550 Wet DL382 Longitudinal 7 500[20] Wet DL501 Longitudinal 7 600 Wet my car is MY2018 and i don't know if it;s DQ250 or DQ400e but either way that table says 400Nm while the map claims 487Nm... So, if all the above is true then the answer is in the question: the map is way too much for the DSG box... but I suppose I'm wondering if anyone has actually put a map with this kind of output on it with the standard DSG box and has either a happy or sorry tale to tell?
  8. Right - that makes sense... probably i've done enough short trips and overtakes for the car to decide it would be better off having its oil changed now... so that's what I'll plan to do..
  9. my MY2018 Superb came up to 1yr old and 15k miles last month (Jan 2018).. some distance before that (I can't remember exactly how much) it was flashing up an "Oil Service" interval warning - basically this seemed to be timed to 1 year (or maybe 15k?). Anyway, it's not flashing up the service interval, because when I check for that it's saying it'll be in 4.something K miles, meaning at 20k or 2yrs.. It now flashes "oil service" every time i get in and out. So, i rang the dealer to book in this "oil service" and they sounded all confused. They said the two should be the same thing and the car must have been set up wrong. Since I am on variable servicing interval (based on the 2yr/20k indication) they reckoned this "oil service" is mistakenly set for 1 yr.. They simply said to me it's not due until your service, and you'll waste 4000 miles (so to speak) if you service it now. So they said just ignore it until I hit 20k. That makes me nervous. I've looked at the manual, and poked around on this forum, but I can't make sense of this. Namely, there clearly is an "oil service" warning which is different to the Service indicator, but I can't find whether they should be set the same or differently (like my car), and whether the dealer is right and I should ignore, or whether i could be doing unnecessary harm to the vehicle. Clearly the safest thing would be to insist on an oil change now, then a full service in 4.5k miles, but obviously i would want to avoid that expense if sensible. Any advice appreciated.
  10. @Nuttymonk - same trouble here. I have the new all glass Columbus. Loaded the cameras via skoda connect online. That all works, but the cameras seem to show up randomly. I figured when it was only a specific zoom level (I have auto zoom set, so the zoom is always changing) but frankly I have not figured out yet when or why they show / don’t show. Also with this method there seems to be no way to get an alert when you get near. :-/
  11. Hi Mark. Yep. You’ll see in the images in my post that the screen that lets you add a file also has an icon selection, and a + button that allows you to use your own image. I just uploaded the ones that came with the POI download without any changes.
  12. well, it's been easy and successful (to a degree). I did all the steps of downloading the camera data as per the instructions above. I did actually download all the possible file types, not just csv, as will become apparent shortly. I figured I would try it first without manipulating any data (and indeed, you don't have to) you go to skoda-connect.com to login. (actually this site is pretty frustrating, as it keeps forgetting some of your details and you need to keep adding them).. anyway, once in the overview page for your car, you select "Manage" under "My Points of Interest", which leads to a page where you can upload the files. Several formats are supported, except they aren't because every time i tried to upload the .gpx file, I got a server error. So, I just uploaded the CSV's. Then in the car you fire up the navigation and have to find the my POI's settings (I didn't make such a good note of this at the time, but I will next time i update) - and there is an option to update from online; selecting this and it miraculously grabs all the files from online. I then did have to do some finagling to get them to show - that didn't seem to work at first but after a couple of attempts has done so. only issue is: no warning on approach... If I remember correctly I couldn't find a setting on the columbus that seemed to relate to that - but I can confirm that the icons do appear on the map..
  13. superb goes up to 1700kg depending on model/spec, octy 1600 - nearly 100kg in it.. i.e. a large passenger.. https://www.carleasingmadesimple.com/data/skoda/superb/kerb-weight/ https://www.carleasingmadesimple.com/data/skoda/octavia/kerb-weight/ my vrs184 estate was around 1430kg, my superb sportline 280 is around 1575kg with similar toys... again - closer to two people rather than one small one..
  14. you've made me think - maybe for the rear window, I should just get a camera that can turn on/off automatically like yours...
  15. What a great guide... before I follow it, I'm wondering if anyone has done this using the "upload" feature on Skoda Connect, as my car has the internet/connectivity pack with SIM card etc and you can, in theory, do this from the skoda connect portal. Interested to know if anyone has experience of making it work by that route? If not, I guess I will have to give it a go and share my experiences..
  16. HI MadDog, I've just written this in another thread.. I had a similar itch to you.. mkIII vrs diesel, and decided I wanted a 4x4 petrol - that pushed me to the sportline.. I test drove the 190 diesel, and it didn't cut it - the slight power gain did not make up for the weight gain over the vRS, and given the more "boat-like" feel to the drive, it just felt a bit gutless. I went with the 280, knowing that it was the best way to feel like a vRS... I'm still running in, so haven't ragged it - and actually, when it's ticking along it feels pretty tame (the petrol DSG is more skittish around the rev range, trying to find the right power output to match your demand)... e.g. for a gentle overtake in ECO mode, it is actually pretty reserved, does't feel anywhere like as quick as the vRS and sticks around under 3500RPM, and sometimes I've been thinking "really, is this all it does?" BUT - if you push the throttle enough to say "now, c'mon, I really want to get past!", then everything changes.. before you know it you are in the 5000 - 6000RPM band, and the tiger is unleashed.. man, it roars, it flies, and suddenly it feels like this is this is vRS's proper-grown-up more-ninja big brother... As I say, I'm still running in, so this has only happened 3 or 4 times, more by accident than design (still learning the throttle), but it's impressive.. I would say DCC is a must if you want any memories of the vRS - in sport mode the harder suspension communicates more like the vRS and obviously gives more confidence in the corners. The softest settings actually make me somewhat anxious on some of our local, rural, badly-cambered scottish corners, though they are a delight on the motorway or main A-roads where you're happy with a relaxed drive and the "secret" ability to pass almost anything you encounter. biggest issue with it for me is the shock of going from a regular 45 - 50mpg to 27 - 30mpg (so far) I used new-car-discount and saved 6.5k off list; delivered right to my door
  17. probably a bit late to see this thread and reply now, but in the past I have used Sugru for all manner of tricky fixing jobs in the car, including dashcams, making hooks for retaining cables, holding rear window blinds and so on and so on.. It's a mouldable rubber compound... very effective when combined with magnets too
  18. I just put in some of these from superskoda... wow they are impressive.. but wow, they were hard to fit... just a mm or two longer than the originals, and in the end had to file the hole a bit wider, and they don't actually seat totally flush (I'm hoping some superglue will fix that)... but yes, seriously impressive -make the originals look pointless... (I now think I put them back to front - oops)

  20. 17.5k for the base S model on new-car-discount. Just bought my sportline 280 for £6.5k under list
  21. Never before have I owned a car which goes so far as to even turn off the ignition for you shortly after you have parked up.. So, the Superb is ram packed with electronics and all manner of things that suck power from the battery. So, the question is, although the 12v sockets are not actually switched, is it possible they actually do also turn off if the battery voltage is running too low? Or to put it another way - if I accidentally left my dashcam or something running (Yes, I know I could wire THAT to a switched fuse), would it end up draining the battery, or would the car protect itself?
  22. I was very happy with Stop-Start on my vRS... like many things, it was a case of learning to work in harmony/sympathy with the vehicle. Feathering the brake pedal to control when it activated was easy to learn. Turning it off manually when approaching a junction onto a busy road, or indeed when raiding a bank and needing a quick getaway, was also easy to learn. The intended savings are not just CO2 and MPG, but NOX etc. particular when driving in urban areas and sat at lights etc. As I'm also a recipient of that benefit, i'm generally in favour of it. As far as the Superb goes (Petrol DSG), 2 weeks/1000 miles in and I can't say I've had any issues per se (getting used to the auto-brake is proving harder), but nor have I learned to work in sympathy with it yet - though I have noticed it does seem more trigger-happy than the octy
  23. Therein lies the problem! That’s gonna niggle me non-stop. Certainly it’s the passenger side that’s ‘open’. Might have to stick an open grill on the driver side to live with. Cant believe I’ve never noticed. But then maybe no one else will
