2011 2.0 TDI Starting Issues - Engine Warning Light / ESP Error! / Won’t Go Into D1
Thanks for explaining that and suggesting the ECU connector and fuse. It's booked in for an MOT soon so they'll pass those suggestions onto the garage. Be great if it was something so simple!

Thanks for the suggestion - what does this do, is it clearing the fault codes from the log?

2011 2.0 TDI Starting Issues - Engine Warning Light / ESP Error! / Won’t Go Into D1
Hi, Last year my parents bought a 2011 2.0 TDI PD Laurin + Klement 5d DSG. It’s in great condition and has been well looked after with 1 owner from new. There have been some intermittent issues which their local garage could see in the logs but haven’t been able to resolve because none are consistent. The 3 main issues are: The most frequent seems to be when they try and start the engine, it turns over but doesn’t fire. If they give it 20-30 seconds and try again, it starts but for the rest of the journey, the yellow engine warning light is on. They always allow the glow plug warning light to go off before trying to start the engine. This happens from both cold and hot starts. More recently, when they start the engine, it’ll idle for 10-20 seconds and then shut off showing “ESP Error!” on the display. If they give it 20-30 seconds and try again, it starts but for the rest of the journey, the yellow engine warning light is on. This again happens from both cold and hot starts. Occasionally when they put it into drive, instead of showing "D1", it alternates between showing "D" and a spanner symbol. It won’t move so each time they put it back into park and shut the engine off. After restarting, it goes into "D1" but for the rest of the journey, the yellow engine warning light is on. Performance doesn’t seem to be effected when the yellow engine warning light is on, the car still seems to have plenty of power. These issues don’t happen on every journey, perhaps 1 in 5, but are definitely getting more frequent. The garage printed off the log - below are the malfunctions and faults that it lists: 01-Engine -- Status: Sporadic communication error 1000 02-Auto Trans -- Status: Malfunction 0010 03-ABS Brakes -- Status: Malfunction 0010 08-Auto HVAC -- Status: Malfunction 0010 09-Cent. Living in a rural location as well, they really rely on the car. Any help would be be appreciated - thanks!

Coolant Temp Gauge Reading 50 - 55 Degrees
Thanks for the suggestions and a replacement inline thermostat fixed the temp gauge issue 😀 When the thermostat was being fitted, the garage looked into the drive problem and said a throttle error was being reported. Because it was intermittent, they're going to try again when the warning light stays on more consistently.

Coolant Temp Gauge Reading 50 - 55 Degrees
I've scrolled through the options and the following are displayed: Travel time (with small 1 top right) Speed warning Speed (with small 1 top right) Route (with small 1 top right) Range Consumption (with small 1 top right) Consumption The following MFD DATA options are shown as available and all are ticked: Travel time Curr. cons. Av. consumer. Route Av. speed Speed warn. I came across this thread which might explain why the oil temp isn't shown: I don't know if this is related to the temp gauge issue, but today they put it into drive and instead of showing "D1", it alternated between showing "D" and a spanner symbol. It wouldn't move so they put it into park and shut the engine off. After restarting, it went into "D1" but for the rest of the journey, the engine warning light stayed on. This is the second time this has happened during the past fortnight.

Coolant Temp Gauge Reading 50 - 55 Degrees
Thanks for the welcome and this issue has started since my parents bought the car. I checked the maxi dot display and the oil temp isn’t shown. I also checked the “MFD DATA” options and oil temp isn’t listed even though its referenced in the manual... Thanks for the suggestion and yes, it’s a DSG model. I had a search for those guides - is the location of the inline thermostat for the Octavia below the air box (the guides I found were for the Yeti and Superb)?

Coolant Temp Gauge Reading 50 - 55 Degrees
Hi, My parents recently bought a 2011 2.0 TDI PD Laurin + Klement 5d DSG. It’s immaculate with 1 owner from new, 90k miles on the clock and loads of service history. Recently however, I’ve noticed that the coolant temp gauge reports 50 - 55 degrees no matter how long they’ve been driving, type of roads or outside temp. Their usual garage confirmed there are no leaks and the coolant level is correct. They’ve never had a Skoda before but everything I’ve ready, suggests the temp gauge should stick at 90 degrees. Is that correct? If yes, any idea what might be causing the low reading? Thanks for your help!
