Ended up using the 225/45r17 tyres from my old Passat including spare. Drove to France and back with no issues and snow chains for these fit without an issue. I realise these aren’t approved but was let down badly by mytyres who I had placed an order with for new wheels and tyres. Will replace for next season and probably start looking early September.

Just out of interest do you use winter or summer tires on the 18 inch rims?

Introductions first am about to become the owner of a 21 plate superb estate which will replace a 61 plate passat. Travel to french alps at least 4 times a winter for which snow tyres are invaluable. Currently have a set of 235/45 r17 snow tyres on 7.5j et47 rims. If I understand correctly I should replace these with 215/55 R17. Questions I have (apologies I’m sure this info is on the forum and I have searched): Will my existing tyres fit as a short term measure. Can I continue to use my existing wheels with new tyres. Will I be able to use snow chains with proposed new tyres. Kindest Regards, Trevor
