  1. Exactly what I did last year when both of my Fabias needed their cambelts replacing - car dropped off with Unit18 and then off to the Galleon for lunch! Was also up there in December to have a window regulator fitted and then in April for an annual service, all done while I waited. Despite a 100 mile round trip, for the last 7 years my cars have been getting their annual service and any other work that was required at Unit 18. To be honest, you don't need SWMBO to follow you there. I always go up in the car that's being worked on - get there early enough and I'm sure Ali and the boys will get the work done before lunch time. Just ask him before you book if he can get it done while you wait (in the pub - lol). Personally, I don't trust the local dealers with my car - had bad experiences with 2 main dealers. HTH.
  2. Sonic devices don't work to be honest, but you can't hear them. Neither will the cat if it's deaf. We "trained" my neighbour's cats with a low pressure hosing whenever they entered the garden, either using the garden hose or a water pistol. They soon associated our garden with bath-time and stopped coming over the fence... As I got on well with said neighbours I did inform them of this first. We did also try a mix of paprika, lemon juice and dried garlic around the border but the cats found ways of getting over the fence and avoiding it.
  3. Saw one of these this morning: Bristol fighter Not sure if it was the full fat T version, but looked gorgeous! Yummy!
  4. Site sponsors Unit 18 are good and in the area! Unit 18
  5. Two pennys worth: Perhaps run the property address through an insurance comparison site for buildings & contents. If a property is flagged as high-risk then the comparison may show this up (see my thread about Insurance in Roadside hotel). Are the neighbouring houses owned or rented? That could affect the property price if there are any disputes.
  6. Thanks! We'll give the insurers a call at the weekend to see if they can bump the premium down a bit! Interesting thing is, any contents value upto £70k and the premium stayed the same.
  7. Probably this which is a sticky topic on the start page: Handbrake cable issue
  8. Cheers, got the correct address from the Post Office. Now the yearly premiums are showing a more realistic figure from £700 to £100! Will probably be less when they ring up as the place is under pretty tight lock and key.
  9. Hello All. Some family members have moved into a rented new build flat but are having issues getting contents insurance. It's a secure flat with 24hr security guards, cctv, alarm etc but when entering the post code for on-line quotes it only comes up with the address for a school opposite the building! When manually entering the address, it says not recognised. They informed the insurer for their old propery about the move (who also couldn't identify this as an appartment block!), but were told the area is a high flood-risk so could not insure for contents (it's a 3rd floor flat so no risk of flooding IMO). Any ideas from those in the know what they can do about this? Cheers.
  10. Couldn't see anything appropriate on Awesome... Had a quick check on VAG cat. The caliper part number for the S3 (8N0615423C + 8N0615424C) which I believe my friend has bought are the same as the Leon Cupra. Obviously the carriers are a different part number (1J0615425C + 1J0615426C for the Leon) so just need to confirm that these will fit on the Polo!
  11. Cheers mate. That's what I was assuming but wanted to make sure. I think he needed to go the leon Cupra or Octy VRS route. I'll let him know.
  12. A mate of mine is in the process of upgrading the rear brakes on his Polo 1.8Gti. He's bought Audi S3 quattro rear calipers and carriers as he was told they would fit. He's tried fitting but mentioned that they don't meet the discs. Any ideas as I thought he might have had more joy putting Octy RS calipers and carriers on?
  13. Decided to give them the . Hope the refund comes through correctly - have informed my card company just in case. Another thing that got me annoyed was on checking the Certificate, the start time was 00:01 on the 18th (which was fine) but expiry time was 23:58 on the 17th. I'm under the impression that this would mean losing a day's premium come renewal time. Existing insurer has it down for 366 days (18th to 18th) which I believe is the norm with most insurers. Renewed with my existing insurer, and they dropped the renewal premium by £30 so relatively happy with that. Cheers for your help!
  14.  That's a pretty quick time. Be interesting to see how it compares with the new VRS. My paltry 1.9tdi 100 was a bit quicker than Xa0sx's over at Unit 18 earlier this year which could be down to the fact I was in for a minor service and I believe his was non-running as it was in for a new turbo! Beautiful example of a (from the outside) subtly modded VRS.
