  1. I know this is a little old...... I agree roof mounted is the best option but for anyone planning to carry bikes all over. But for the one off, short journeys and whom doesn't want to fork out £200 plus pounds on a full setup. Then I would recommend a good quality tailgate bike rack. I was made paranoid about using a bike rack, mainly because of reading about the stories of what people have posted. But I can confirm that carrying two bikes on a saris gran fondo on a Skoda karoq 2021 was surprisingly solid. My bike which is under 10kg and my son's bike probably just over 10kg didn't damage my car. However I did make sure my car was clean and I didn't over tighten the straps and not driving like a lunatic helped on my journey. No damage at all and I would be happy to do it again.
