  1. I have not seen any reference in any documentation to the space-saver that I bought (specification above) from the main dealer not fitting all four corners.
  2. That may be the case but I think that one should not assume that it was correct for the car that it was taken from. There are many on the well known auction site with the wheel and tyre specifications mentioned in my posting above; these are good value for money compared to the one that I bought from the main dealer specifically for my Octavia 4.5.
  3. Thanks, whippersnapper. I will try this tomorrow, after I've scraped the ice off the windscreen😁
  4. My concerns with a higher (but not a lower - that would definitely be unsuitable/unacceptable/incorrect) load rating/index are 1) in the event of an accident, would the insurers say that the tyre did not match the car manufacturer's specification? 2) would it give a firmer ride to the detriment of the occupant's comfort? Any thoughts on this, anyone?
  5. I had a look on the internet. The part number appears to indicate that it is from a VW Tiguan. I found the following listing which gives the wheel specification and it is different from that mentioned above in my posting: eBay UK''18 SPACE SAVER SPARE WHEEL TYRE 145/85/R18 4J ET28 VOLK...Year: 2017. Model: Tiguan SE Nav 2WD. Make: Volkswagen. Body Shape: SUV. A signature may be required. Security Marks: All parts are security marked/photographed. This part is a used, previously fittedI do not have the technical knowledge to say whether or not scotthugh3s wheel/tyre will fit an Octavia IV but the specifications of the wheel and tyre are different from my posting above.
  6. Sorry to write again on this subject. The rev counter on the left and the speedo on the right have disappeared, and scrolling using the arrow button on the RHS of the steering wheel doesn't bring them back. Any ideas, please!!!!!!!!
  7. My wife's car travels between England and Scotland. I ran a set of Goodyear Vector 4Seasons on my wife's car and was very pleased with them: good tyre life, wet weather and snow performance. I then replaced them with a set of Continental winter tyres for optimum snow performance; the performance in heavy rain/snow is great but they are noisy, but not unbearably so, on dry roads. When they need changed again, I will revert to Vector 4Seasons. I found that Michelin CrossClimate did not have the correct load factor for my wife's car: it needed 91V and Michelin's was 94V. (PS Hillybill above refers to "Uniroyal" - the factory was in Newbridge in Scotland. They were taken over by Continental, then Continental opened a factory in Roumania and six years later closed Newbridge in about the year 2000. I think 1500 were made redundant and had to take what jobs they could find in the East of Scotland. The management asked the redundant workforce for volunteers to work in Roumania and train them in how to use the relocated machinery: not a single person volunteered and, as it was told to me, they told the management to put their offer "where the sun doesn't shine". (If you have a really long memory, it was previously the North British Rubber Company in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh (I remember the old single-storey buildings that lasted into the 1970s), before being moved to Newbridge in the 1960s.)
  8. In summary, the toolkit is very reasonably priced. However, as far as I can see, on the well known auction site, there are many spacesaver wheels, complete with tyres, that have the same wheel and tyre size and are very reasonably priced. There is an opportunity to save £+++ by buying the toolkit from the dealer and the wheel/tyre from the web. The link mentioned above: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/525101-space-saver-wheel-kit/#comment-5876012 is highly detailed and informative, but a little bit too technical for me. If you have an Octavia 4.5 (and probably the 4), the details that I have entered can easily be used to look for an identical wheel/tyre on the web. There are a lot of tyres being ruined on potholes and I think that the spacesaver is worth it for peace of mind and keeping mobile, especially when in a remote location or at weekends. PS Remember that the wheel must be securely held in place and the toolkit strapped to the wheel with the webbing and clip supplied. PPS If anyone has any further questions, post a comment and I will reply. Hope this all helps.
  9. The details of the tyre that is fitted to the wheel are as follows: 1) T125/70R18 99M 2) DOT 1OU L3LPG (that's how I wrote it down) 3) 0725 (week of manufacture)
  10. I have taken photographs of the wheel and made notes of the details on them: 1) 31/2JX18H2 2) ET25.5 3) 5352 MWA 4) 1425 5)VWAG 6) two rows of numbers that I have photographed - see photograph. If they are not legible, I will take the wheel out again - just post a comment. The wheel is held down securely by plastic fittings that come with the toolkit, if I remember correctly. Details of the tyre will follow on the next posting.
  11. Thank you all for the replies. The infotainment screen is 12.5" wide, which approximates to 13". Here are some photos of the NSF wing. Is my Octavia a 4.5? Thanks in advance. And a Merry Christmas to all!
  12. My concern was that a damaged tyre would leave me stranded, especially in a rural area a long way from any source of a new tyre, and, therefore, I decided to purchase a toolkit and space-saver spare wheel. There are many space-saver wheels on the internet but I didn't know which size, etc., would be correct for the car. Therefore, I purchased two items from a well known Skoda dealership: "Toolkit for spare wheel Octavia IV" "Spare wheel KAROQ/OCTAVIA/SUPERB" The space-saver cost a lot of money. In the next few days, I will take the space-saver wheel out of the car and post the full details on this thread. (I would have preferred a full-size spare wheel but I couldn't find a secondhand one. I read somewhere that it is possible to cut the polystyrene tray to take a full size wheel, which then projects above the tray by a small amount. There is nothing special about the toolkit.)
  13. I have bought and fitted a space-saver spare wheel, complete with tools, that came with its own polystyrene 'box' / tray. The polystyrene 'box' that was originally supplied with the car is now redundant. It is taking up space in my garage and I think that I will never need it again (if I ever sell the car (unlikely, as I really like it), I will leave the spare wheel and tools in place. The tray is available F.O.C. to anyone that can use it.
  14. My Octavia was registered in December 2024. Is it a 4.0 or a 4.5? How can I find out which it is?
  15. There is an interesting thread here that compares costs: Honest JohnIs a diesel still better than petrol for high mileages?I have been a diesel car driver covering around 30,000 per year for the last 10 years and would like to add my two pence to the conversation. Along the A1, the cheapest fuel I have found is at Tesco
  16. Sorry to hear about the accident - hope you weren't injured and were treated fairly by the various insurers. Nice colour. I remember that 'Honest John' said that the annual mileage must be at least 15,000 miles in order to justify running a diesel. There are a number of threads on this subject on the Honest John website. However, I think that a diesel suits motorway driving and this is one factor in its favour for you. After owning a turbo diesel, I suggest that you test drive the turbo petrol to be sure that you can get used to the different way that the surge of acceleration comes in. Points to consider with a diesel: initial extra cost of vehicle; extra cost of fuel; DPF needs plenty of work; will cover a huge mileage but with the huge mileage comes eventual glow plug replacement (to prevent them seizing) and the eventual cost of new replacement injectors (reconditioned don't last the same). Good luck.
  17. Hi scotthugh3. Thank you for the quick reply. I have tried this today and that solves the issue. Reply is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.👍
  18. 1) Up to recently, the dashboard display had never changed since the car was delivered: rev counter on left, speedometer on right and useful information in the centre (I call this the 'default' display). 2) Then a passenger was typing a destination into the sat-nav and the dashboard changed to a moving map of the car's location and direction. 3) I tried to reset it to the default but it changed to two square boxes: LH box with mileage data and the RH box with the channel that the radio was playing! Please help: A) How do I change the display to the 'default'? B) If I want to display the moving map as in 2) above, how do I do this? All replies greatly appreciated as I have to do at least 700 miles next week and 3) above will not be of any assistance to me, especially as some of the journeys will be on unfamiliar roads. I always found the 'default' to be very informative and helpful. Thank you.
  19. Hello I ordered a pair of "Walser" front seat covers, model name "Dirty Harry". They are a good fit except that they do not fully cover the seat bolster airbags; however, this is not an issue to me as I like to keep the bolster airbags uncovered. The seat covers are made of thick nylon and appear to be hard wearing. I remove them at weekends as the nylon doesn't breathe and perspiration builds up on my back on long journeys. All in all, they do exactly what I want - keep the seats clean during the working week when I am wearing overalls.
  20. Hi Before I saw MikeyEI's email, I had ordered a set of rubber floor mats from an ebay seller called "bespoke_car_mats", a UK Manufacturer in Lincolnshire. I chose the basic mats with a black trim for £39.99. The mats are a perfect fit and have the correct apertures for the driver's side floor fittings. Overall, I'm very happy with them. I ordered from ebay ""Heavy Duty Fabric Nylon Waterproof Front Seat Covers Pair" to fit an Octavia IV. Unfortunately, they definitely do not fit an Octavia IV because there is insufficient material across the front of the seat back, between the bolsters, and the openings for the side air bags are in the wrong place; these have been returned to the seller. I would be very grateful for anyone's experience of good fitting front seat covers, reasonably priced, for an Octavia IV 2024. I would be happy with the nylon type that cover the head restraint and seat in one piece, as I can remove these easily for the weekend. Thanks.
  21. Hello everyone 1) I need front seat covers as I get in and out of my car wearing overalls. There is a wide range of seat covers available on the web that all claim to fit an Octavia IV. I am looking for the type that have separate covers for the seat and head restraint - front seats only. Can anyone recommend a supplier that they have used, please? 2) Ditto rubber floor mats. All replies gratefully appreciated. Thank you.
  22. Hi everyone I am now the proud owner of a new Octavia IV and I like it very much. I might need some advice over the coming weeks and hope to receive your assistance. Thanks John
