hi there, looking for some advice please and thanks for all the helpful threads so far. fabia estate 2013 1.6 TDI. smell of burned diesel from air vents. I originally thought it was due to an exhaust leak which had involved having to replace the pipe including DPF, groan. however, the smell continued, then one day it was much worse and fuel pooling on the rocker cover, appearing to come from base of injector two. I thought it was a seal leak and replaced these on 1 and 2 but 4 was seized. leak from 2 seemed fixed but vapour from 4... this then got worse with more vapour and some diesel with bubbling. I eventually managed to bash 4 out and replace seals on 3 and four but continued diesel and bubbles from 4. i lapped the bottom (there was a mark in the old washer and the base suggesting bypass), new clamp bolt and cleaned out meticulously again but still a leak of diesel and presumed combustion gases. at this point loss of revs and horrendous engine noises. it turned out 4 was not firing. I replaced 4 with a reconditioned injector and got it coded to the ECU. engine running sweet again and no more obvious fumes or leaks. there was an abrasion on leak pipe from four, not through white inner but I replaced all leak pipes with genuine. I thought the union on the metal injector pipe for four looked moist but no drip so tightened this a bit more (£100 each for new ones!) pipe seats do not look deformed or excessively worn. there is still a whiff of burnt diesel - and slight vapour visible from top of the engine. the rocker cover around the injectors looks moist but no frank pooling. I changed the oil recently. at this point the car is running well and I could just consider it's an older engine? however, it would be nice to figure out what is going on in case it gets worse or represents a bigger problem? I wondered re. head gasket but there is no whiteness in the oil. I did have to top up my antifreeze a couple of centimetres a couple of times in the last month or two although this could just be the heat or a slight leak elsewhere? no smell suggesting antifreeze burning off. thanks for any advice or ideas!!! I was on the verge of buying a newer car before trying a new injector (please god no, not the sea of infernal electronic aids buttons and noises 😯) so any advice to keep this car going would be much appreciated!
