  1. On a similar topic, I'm also looking for recommendations on vw/skoda specialists in Nottingham. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a trustworthy independent vag specialist for regular servicing on my 2022 Octavia. A quick google turns up Autotechz in Derby and Lion Garage in Sneinton. I know nothing about either, so would be good to get some peoples experiences/opinions of local specialists too.
  2. I've had my Octavia mk4 for almost a year now and I'm looking for somewhere to get an annual service. For the previous 15 years I had an old vw bora and had been doing a basic yearly service myself, so I'm a bit out of touch with handing the car over to someone else. I was a bit miffed that the dealership I got the car from (rainworth skoda) did an "oil service" that didn't include a replacement filter when I purchased the car, so want to avoid the main dealers if possible. Can ayone from near Nottingham recommend an independent? Ideally one that can append to the electronic service record.
  3. Thanks. I'm guessing by "quiet chirrup", you are implying your wifes car made a similar noise. I was simply thinking about booking it in at one of the national chain garages that advertise regassing, but maybe I'll look for a local specialist. I guess I just want to avoid doing anything if the noise is considered normal; I've not come across noisy aircon in a car before. Seems odd.
  4. I've a 22 plate Octavia 1.0 tsi, and its always been a little noisy; it makes sort of a revving noise from behind the passenger side of the dash. Especially noticeable in 1st gear when the revs are higher. Having always had naturally aspirated cars, I'd assumed the noise was the turbo waste gate or something, however today I noticed it goes away if I turn the aircon off! The best i can describe the noise is a sort of low warbling, that echos the engines revs. After a long journey it also appears to be there in the background; the noise sort of surges on and off. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I've read elsewhere this can be due to the Aircon needing regassing. My aircon is nice and cold, so I'd always assumed it was ok. Having come to a Skoda from a 25 year old vw bora, which was never regassed, always cool and silent - I find it odd that I might need to regass a 4 year old cars air con. I was always of the mind not to touch it if it works after horror stories of people having a regass and the seals not holding up. Should I get it regassed? Is there any risk doing so?
  5. I've done a factory reset, we'll see. First time for me, but a couple of things i found interesting. After the reset it seemed to restore the settings I had back when I first registered as primary user, not what I'd set since. Its interesting because they were not defaults, so it is definitely "restoring" something. When I registered the keys, I mistakenly pressed unlock in the opposite order to what I did the first time. This seems to have made both keys map to the same, primary user profile. I don't really mind that, but just find it a bit bizzare and nondeterministic behaviour. After getting out, locking the car, unlocking and getting back in the car was asking for an S-PIN. I don't ever remember setting one, and I'm normally pretty good at keeping a record of these things. I made one up, and it seems to have worked. I'm hoping this fixes my issues, and I dread encountering some of the issues you guys have mentioned. I agree with others about it likely being incompatible database schmea or file metadata - devs in general are notorious for not thinking about how migrations will work. What is worrying is all these sorts of issues are usually the sign of crap developers and lack of testing; the last thing you want in a f*ucking car!
  6. I've a 2022 mk4 and mine did the ota update to 1989 from 1985 at the weekend. I'd not really had any issues with 1985, but now I notice when I bring the car to a standstill, even if the engine is still running the infotainment goes to the screen with the clock (just like before you turn the ignition on). Its not a reboot, but more like it goes into standby. Anyone else experienced that? If I could turn back time I'd have just stuck with my 25 year old car, because this is bullsh*t.
