@Cairus Could you explain it as if you were explaining it to a kid, he did mention the steering column control unit as well, said he tested all the wires coming from the j519 and they were ok, he did say he did not test all the grounds, when he connected everything back up everything started working ok no faults.

UPDATE: Apparently i have a faulty j519 bcm unit that needs replacing, does this sound right?

@Cairus or anyone else Fuse 14 keeps on blowing which affects the steering wheel and and light switch and diagnostics, i borrowed a odb reader and that did not work as it is on the same fuse, I have booked my car into a VW specialist for diagnostics, do you know what is the most likely thing to be causing this? they have a £132 hourly diagnostic charge so i would like to narrow it down to keep my outlay to a minimum. thanks

Hi all, I understand that the steering wheel buttons are an issue with the clock spring, i have read around the forums on this issue, the only difference is i have no warning lights accompanying this. Is the best course of action to replace the clockspring or follow the guide on here on cleaning the contacts on the pcb. The headlights auto switch stopped working around the same time and is stuck on, are they related, what is the best way to go about this as i do not want to pay Skoda electricians exorbitant hourly rates looking for electrical gremlins?

Update: Got all the work needed done for £900, which included new discs and pads all around, brake fluid, new front control arms, apparently the nearside control arm was collapsed and was causing the excessive tyre wear and binding brake.

Hi @nta16 The first pic is the nearside front, which is the one binding, the second is the offside rear, third and fourth is the nearside rear and the last is the offside front. I have already read your linked posts (a good read) and watched a couple of Youtube videos and i am considering doing some of it myself, I was just going to get the binding issue resolved first and probably the front discs, pads and brake fluid by a professional and then do the rears myself. All the tyres are in good nick apart from the wheel that is binding where there is excessive wear (still very legal) in the centre of the tyre compared to the other tyres and will get both fronts changed before the next MOT. From what i have read the hand brake issue is linked to the rear discs, the handbrake in mk3 fabia's are very flimsy feeling in the hand, which car reviewers have noted, and is an issue on mine. I have had a couple of garages tried to change shocks as part of the MOT and service that were in good knick on my previous car as they had recently been replaced, seems like a goto tactic to syphen extra work out of you. If anyone knows of any decent garages in the berkshire, west surrey area please recommend.

I am going to get the binding brake fixed and also probably get the front pads + discs replaced at the same time. After that i will do what alasdair suggests and wait and see what my next MOT throws up, I am going to go to a independent MOT tester with no skin in the game from now on, finding a decent garage is hard!!!

Hi @OccyVRS, Near Slough, i have in the last few days noticed my front wheels getting hot and a burning metal smell recently and extra brakepad dust, but looking at the front disks they look ok the rear disks look like they need replacing. I did not really pay them any mind at first because i have had garages give me the similar advisories in the past that were just trying to get extra work out of me. Any garage recommendations?

Hi, Yes I got an oil change with inspection service, and they looked at my last MOT which had the following advisories: Nearside Front Shock absorbers has light misting of oil (5.3.2 (b)) Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii)) Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii)) Nearside Front wheel slightly binding under trays fitted and quoted me the above although my front discs and pads look ok.
