  1. ok good to know ECU has been sent off for testing hopefully it will be repairable or they can clone the original hopefully this will allow the car to start one we the new ecu is installed
  2. Thanks for the advice. The alternator is actually showing a proper output — the garage checked it and said it’s charging correctly. That’s why they think it could be an ECU-related issue instead. The car still won’t fire up, and the TCS error is now preventing it from starting, so it seems the problem might go beyond just charging.
  3. Hi everyone, I recently bought a 2010 Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI from an auction (“blind buy” – couldn’t test drive beforehand). After getting it home, I noticed the battery kept going flat every few days, and sometimes the engine cooling fans would start running randomly even when the ignition was off. At first, I thought it might be the alternator, since I also had a battery warning light on the dash. I replaced the alternator with a second-hand unit, but the problem stayed the same. I had Halfords do a Battery test which they said is fine - And its only 2 years old I then took it to a local garage with diagnostic equipment. They couldn’t find any fault codes, but suggested it might be an electrical fault. After checking, they said the wiring, fuses, and relays all seemed fine, and they suspected an ECU issue. Since then, I’ve been charging the battery each morning for about 20 minutes before driving it, and it worked fine. The battery light was on the dash board, the engine fans would run sometimes when i turned the car off but it would shut down within 30 seconds or so of turning the engine off. However, the other day the car suddenly cut out while driving, and now I’ve got a TCS fault light on the dashboard and the car won’t start at all. The AA came out to have a look, but they couldn’t get any communication with their diagnostic tool either. The patrolman also thought it might be an ECU problem. I’ve now removed the ECU and sent it away for testing and possible repair. Just wondering — has anyone else experienced similar issues with these cars? Could it really be the ECU, or is there something else I should check (like relays, wiring, etc.) before I go down that route? Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
