Hi All, I read through this post as my son wanted to put a bigger sub in his 2016 Octavia RS Liftback. The post is pretty confusing, lots of people seem to have tried lots of things with varying reported levels of subcess. We wanted a budget option, so we decided to try just replacing the sub with a dual voice coil 2 x 8 ohm unit. This Dayton unit SD270a-88 looks very capable, for only AUD$160. Dayton Audio - SD270A-88 10" DVC Subwoofer 4 Ohm It says 4 ohm but that's if you wire the two 8 ohm coils together. The only downside is the sealed box volume it wants is 33.7L. So the challenge was making a box that big. It meant using all the space available. We had to put a triangle corner notch for the rear tail light area; We went as wide as we could, which meant a weird sloping back panel in 2 directions. The front needed 3 angles to clear the various webs and gussets in the liftback. It was the most complicated shape sub box I have made, we got pretty close to the 33L. The basser box is only 16L so not an option. It bolts in to a couple of the original screw on light duty plastic tie points. We soldered the wires onto the original loom and plug from the original 6" subwoofer. We still need to add a speaker grill to stop it accidentally getting damaged (we bought one, but it hit the rubber outer of the speaker cone), and probably glue some carpet circles over the 2 mounting screws. It sounds great, the car should've originally came with something more like this. It shows you can have a very good upgrade without touching the amps or cars wiring. All up cost (with MDF for the box, glue and carpet), roughly AUD$260 (USD$180).
