  1. So I almost bought the Superb but test drove a local Audi A4. Just a bit smaller and nicer spec. Went with that in the end. Like the feel of the 1.4 engine. Did like the Superb though. Thanks for everyone's replies!

  3. Thanks mate - I've updated it with those essential details!
  4. Just wanted to ask for your thoughts and experiences on how the ride compares on a standard 2018 1.5TSI SE Superb (no DCC) with a 2018 1.5tsi Karoq SE (no DCC). I really like the soft ride on the Superb but admit that a shorter car would be better. I found the Octavia a bit crashy (16 inch wheels SE spec). I am hoping to fit in a test drive but time is limited and local(ish) cars seem to be as well! Thanks.
  5. Thanks mate. Once my old car is returned to the seller I will place a deposit on a 2019 Superb 1.5 tsi SE.
  6. Thanks for this. I went for the Superb SE in the end. Drove it again today. Not as well cushioned on some pot holes as i'd expect or compared to 90's french cars, but good overall and the best I've experienced out of 2 Audi A4's, MK2 Superb, Hyundai Kona, and the Octavia SE. With the Superb I actually like the floaty ride as it doesn't follow the contours of the road as much, which I can find a bit tiring after a while. A good well damped sporty ride can be a real pleasure but I always like good waft!
  7. Yeah I will definitely try super unleaded. I was running that in my BMW 4 series. Tempted to check out the Revo remap. Not straight away though as want to get to know how the car feels first and make sure it's all good.
  8. So I am now deciding between a 2019 Superb SE with 17 wheels and 6 speed manual hatchback, and a 2019 Octavia SE estate with 16 inch wheels and DSG. Both have the 1.5 TSI engine. I found the Octavia a bit firm over potholes and the like on my local Surrey roads. I was quite surprised. I think the Superb rides smoother and has slightly softer seats, but test drove it 39 miles away in a different location, so hard to tell how much smoother! Would be great to hear your experiences of how these two compare. Ride quality and seat comfort matters as I will be using the car for transporting my mum with a bad back on poor roads! Thanks.
  9. Managed to get a test drive of an Octavia 3rd Gen SE with DSG. Ride felt firmer (16" wheels) and more Golf-like than the 3rd Gen SE Superb (17" wheels). So am leaning towards the Superb as want that softer exec feel, I guess the suspension Is different. I was happy with the acceleration of the engine. So think the manual Superb will be the one. Hopefully will get a test drive booked for Tuesday AM.
  10. Thanks. I'm hoping to drive it again to get a better feel and keep within the torque window.
  11. I test drove the 1.5tsi 6sp manual Superb today. Very comfortable and relaxing. The only thing was I found was there was no gentle shove that you normally get from smaller turbos. Not sure if I need to adapt my driving style. Is there a rpm window for the best torque response? I also drove an older superb with the 1.8T engine with only an extra 10bhp and that felt way zippier despite a similar 0-60. So I'm hoping it's just me that needs to adapt, as I really want this car to be the one!
  12. Yeah, I think some of these modern engines are so complex now with various efficiency requirements and everything else. I can't handle the paranoia of waiting for something to go boom! Maybe I'll just stick to super unleaded and pretend I'm faster 🤣
  13. Hey did you get any info in the end? I'm looking at a Superb with the same engine and 6 speed manual. An extra 30bhp would be nice! Just don't want to destroy the turbo or clutch 🤣
  14. Yeah sounds like some 'baggage' with this engine. After my BMW adventures,I'm looking for something that is reasonably stable! I will keep reading up on it in case I discover it's a good iteration of the engine but will give it a pass for now.
  15. Thanks mate. That's fair enough. Will take me 8 years to get to that big bill with the mileage I'm doing!
  16. Thanks appreciate your insights. Will definitely look through the threads to get a better picture. I'm leaning towards the newer model as 1.5tsi seems to be well received and also the car comes with a 12 month used skoda approved warranty.
  17. So I am viewing a couple of Superb's tomorrow! Looking at a £6k 2012 1.8T DSG Elegance with less than 60k on the clock, no MOT advisories and full service history. I've read some stories about the engine and gearbox, but if it's had good maintenance should I be worried? Anything to look for that's a red flag? Also looking at a £10k 2019 1.5TSI 6 speed manual with 62k on the clock and full service history. May do a basic remap if the clutch and turbo can take it - would be good to have your thoughts. I guess the question is how the generations compare. I look after my cars but don't want to be in the garage every few months tinkering to keep it going. Just had that with a BMW I am returning next week. More oil leaks than a sinking tanker! Thanks for reading :-)
  18. Hi, I am looking at used Skoda Superb's so thought I'd join. If it all works out, then no doubt I'll be posting with new car neuroses in no time 🤣.
