HI all I have a octavia 1.4 16v classic on a 51 plate yesterday the engine management light came on car still drives ok had a look under bonnet i noticed that there is a ticking noise comming from a black box this is next to the coolant tank it has 1 hose on it and a 2 pin plug on it as well it is next to the power steering resovior is this the ecu? the last time the light came on 3 yrs ago the timming belt snapped many thanks mark.

i have changed the coolant sensor everything is ok but why the oil sludge in air filter head gaskett ok had that replaced in 2006 cleaned it all out and replaced the filter done this before and the same thing still happens car now runs very well more economical cheers mark.

Sorry if this has been posted before the em light came on this morning after 10mins the car seems to drive ok had a look there seems to be sludge in the air filter and oil breather pipe cleaned this out but light is still on if it is the maf sensor where would it be 1.4 16v classic 51 reg many thanks in advance

sorry for not getting back was on holiday yes i have checked the levels they are ok this fault is intermittent

mine is still doing it the problem went away now it is back the levels are fine i have checked the connection to the bonnet sensor is fine and also cleaned it with contact cleaner is the snsor the one on th front left hand side near the ignition coils ?

Got the car back today good as gold they said it was a wire under the battery housing it cost £30.00 which was ok so that suggests it was a loose terminal but there you go i was not going to argue over £ 30.00

That is a problem i have got to but my bulb holder is completely burnt out on one bulb only took the trim off some time ago will have to buy the complete holder asembely do it after christmas.

They said no but have taken it back because it is so annoying so i will see what happens later on when i go to collect it

The problem that i have now is that the petrol gague every time the steering wheel is turned the gauge goes up and down and the reserve alarm also sounds very annoying just had a new clutch fitted the garage said that this is a new problem it just seems strange that this has all happened as soon as i get the car back it has never happened before could it be connected to the clutch change?

That has happened to me last week i had parked the car at work went to zstart it in the evening and could not select a gear but it seemed ok the day before is that normal for no signs to show before

I agree don t do it these octavias are fine cars perhaps you should have a newer one do not have the pug you will then realise what trouble is i used to own a citroen xm went wrong every month i knew a bit about this car so i use to do it myself even the suspension. but was wasting my time when i could of been doing other things i have now got an octavia which had 28000 miles when i brought it in 2004 only had one 1 major prob so far the timming belt but apart from that it has been good so far .

Hi that is the same thing i get with my 1.4 16v even though the head gasket was changed for another reason mainly timing belt snapped the breather pipe also has mayo inside it

I have just had a look again the oil light which is under the coolant light when ignition is turned on the light will take fewseonds to come on after all the other warning lights have gone out it will bleep three times and then will start to flash as son as the engine is turned the light will go out many thanks in advance:)

it is the oil light prior to starting the engine when all the other warning lights go out as normal the oil light come on starts flashing you also get a bleep sound when you start the car proper it clears it has never done this before i have had the car for 2 yrs there seems to be no leaks as i can see and the oil level is correct thanks in advance

Hi everyone The oil light has started flashing with a beep sound 5 seconds after the ignition is on but when the engine is started it goes out the oil has been changed a month ago with the service and the level is fine would it be a sensor for the level cannot see any noticable leaks. it is a 51 reg 1.4 16v classic regaurds mark.

I am an owner of a octavia 1.4 16v 51 reg i wish everybody the best with these fine cars
