  1. Just thought I'd chip in cos I fixed mine yesterday...56 plate hatch. I'd had no skooshies for a few weeks...basically since it came back from a stealer service and so it was definitely filled with the right spec washer fluid but hey that's just bad luck eh??? Anyway, no water coming out of mine at all...took off the jets and still next to nothing but did notice some rust coloured staining around the base of the wiper so it looked like a blockage was possible. Since I couldn't get any water to appear i started looking at taking the tailgate trim off - what a pure bitch that looks to be! Wasn't getting very far and the carpets in the boot, spare wheel etc were dry so had my fingers crossed the pipes hadn't popped off. So...final roll of the dice...stuck a handpump with a football adaptor into the nozzle and gave it a healthy pumping . Cue lots of spraying of rusty fluid and lumps of dirty looking gunk everywhere. Did this a few more times whilst making sure I was hosing the horribleness off the paintwork. Took the wee mini nozzle thing into the garage and seperated 1 strand from a bike brake cable and poked it through the wee jets to reveal yet more rusty crap and then sprayed through with some carb cleaner type stuff and re-assembled. Hey presto...working washer again!! Well chuffed that it's sorted before winter without having to resort to breaking trim or taking it a to a dealer Clearly a crap design but in my case a diy fix so I'm happy. Thought some of these ideas might be worth a try for others...good luck!
  2. Yes mate I did exactly that! Had Octy vRS for 4 years...started to think my fuel economy wasn't good enough for the miles I'm doing (350 p/w) and it was getting long in the tooth. Bought a Fabia vRS (remapped, big brakes etc) and after 6 months sold the Fab and went back to the Octy! To be fair the Octavia hadn't sold but looking back I think that was partly through lack of effort because I was never totally happy with the Fabia. Don't get me wrong it had serious in gear poke and the torque was a laugh but I never got the feeling it was as solid or well built as the Octy and the interior just felt a bit too basic even though the Octy is no Bentley! It had rattles on top of rattles and it felt older than its years. The thing was yeh the Fabia got better mpg...but not as good as I'd hoped and the performance was decent...but not as good as I hoped (1st and 2nd gears were laughable in terms of traction and gearing) and I found I drove it harder just to compensate for the fact that I missed the petrols powerband. Not saying theyre bad cars or anything but I definitely regretted buying mine and it felt right when I went back to the Octavia. Ok I'm paying through the nose in terms of fuel and tax but hey ho lifes too short! Anyway I *can* get a reliable 35mpg out of the Octavia if I drive it gently and thats decent compared to the circa 45 (real world) mpg the Fabia was giving...then theres the price of diesel these days . I'd say do it - theres some bargain mk1 Octavia vRS out there...

  4. Definitely do that for some kind soul! I am in Scotland just outside edinburgh tho...
  5. Ok thanks sorry about that...dealer time I guess
  6. Swapped the cig lighter one for the bust one. One other thing though...when I was searching for the knaackered fuse I put one of the fuses in the top section of the box back in the wrong place and lost dash illumination and the car wouldnt run (started but cut out). Sorted that and all apppeared to be well..except this warning light. There I've confessed all now..feel much better
  7. Ok so from what I've read that airbag warning isn't fuse dependant...so the question is what the hell have I borked when putting this bloody stereo in? If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears...
  8. The connector behind the glovebox was grey and kinda anchor shaped(!??) Is it possible to mess up the airbag connection when pulling through the ICE stuff to make space for the HU? Also I did have some 'issues' with the fusebox can any of those have a bearing on the warning light? Cheers
  9. Lol deserved! its a fair cop (and I haven't even had the guts to tell the full story). Believe it or not I read up on this for a few days before hand christ knows how bad it could have been! Anyway...no airbag deactivation switch. When the glovebox was off I did see a connector hanging down behind it but the glovebox came away with no resistance at all so I thought it must have been for the switch...if I had one. Unsurprisingly...I'm stumped??? I'll take mockery and assistance in equal measure if need be
  10. Cheers - was the fuse. Now swapped with the cig lighter one temporarily and up and running. Only problem is ...airbag warning on dash. Had the glovebox out to do my head unit ...is there a chance I've disconnected something by accident? (have done a search but can't seem to find out what triggers the light???)
  11. Howdy - need a hand may have ^&%$%£$ed things up! Got a new headunit for my mk1 vrs. Read up about the wire swap stuff, k wire etc - bought an fm amplifier thingy and went at it today. Swapped the wires around on my new steroes ISO plug, checked the k wire was not being fed 12v then went looking for a power source for the antenna. Saw that pin 5 on the car side ISO was being hooked up to 'auto antenna' on the HU side and thought best move was to unplug the red/white wire on the car side...tape it up and replace it with the blue wire from the fm booster. That all seemed logical to me anyway... Only thing is I didn't bother disconnected the battery and managed to ground the red/white wire and got a spark. Went ahead with the instal anyway but now my new headunit is not powering on. can anyone suggest what I've done and how to fix? Likely to be a fuse (please say yes!) Any help much appreciated!
  12. Yep cheers I have a forge one here that I got when I bought the car so I guess I'll give that a try.
  13. Hi all Just had my vRS remapped and noticed a sound which wasn't there before. Happens when the engine is under load and a fairly light throttle and sounds like the noise when you blow over the top of a milk bottle. This rang a bell from my scooby days and a search reveals that it was a known side effect of a dodgy BOV. Is this likely to be the same thing on an Octy? Cheers
