  1. Just had the electric Skoda towbar fitted for £1372 and tested it over the weekend. I have to admit that it is a very good design and quality construction. I like the integrated electric socket in the body of the towbar too. Faultless operation. However I'm still miffed at paying double the third party option
  2. Sounds like a great price for electric. My quote doesn't say, so I'll assume it's non electrical operated but 🙏
  3. Thanks. The independent installer is removing the towbar and refunding me. Very honourable, unlike Skoda. I'm being quoted £1400 for the Skoda towbar fitting. Is this a typical price?
  4. Thanks. Looks like you did reasonably well out of the good will gesture. No sign of it for my situation yet 🙏
  5. Thanks. As you predict, Skoda are being no help at all. Dismissive even. I am so angry at the lack of customer service. Their website says Skoda website says “"Tow bar preparation" for the Škoda Superb IV means the vehicle is equipped with the necessary fittings and wiring to easily attach a tow bar, but the actual tow bar is not installed. This allows for the tow bar to be fitted later, either by a dealer or specialist garage, without major modifications. This preparation includes mounting points and electrical connections needed for towing, making it simpler and quicker to add a tow bar when required. It ensures the vehicle is ready for safe towing once the tow bar is installed and properly secured.” Nowhere does this state that the towbar must be a Skoda manufactured one. I am not giving up...
  6. Latest from Skoda UK "I hope you are doing well, and thank you for contacting Škoda UK and taking the time to share your experience with us. I completely understand how unsettling and frustrating it must have been to have the Proactive Passenger Protection system repeatedly activate while towing your caravan, especially when towing was a key reason for choosing your Škoda Superb. Your safety and peace of mind are our top priorities, and I want to reassure you that we take your concerns very seriously. Please be advised that the vehicle may not yet be fully recognising the towbar system. In some cases, even when a vehicle-specific electrical kit is fitted, the towbar needs to be coded to the car’s control unit so that all safety and assistance systems function correctly. To resolve this, we kindly ask that you take your vehicle to your local Škoda Retailer. They will be able to check whether the towbar requires coding, ensure the installation is fully integrated with your vehicle’s systems, and confirm everything is operating as intended. I look forward to hearing back from you soon " now to contact my local dealer ...
  7. Thanks to everyone for raising this issue. If I'd known about it I definitely wouldn't have bought the car. I discovered the problem yesterday on my first towing holiday, so you can imagine how traumatic it was driving 200 miles with repeated alarms and not knowing the cause. I've complained to Skoda UK and awaiting reply; the towbar installer is also investigating. However the local Skoda dealer was not helpful, only saying I'd have to pay for a diagnostic! If all else fails then I will try charge back or Which legal. I'll update on any news
