  1. I can see them anyway , and very nice they look too !!!
  2. I hope that as a current Subaru Wrx owner i may contribute to this thread, Reading a post such as this is one of the reasons I would like a Vrs be it either TDI or TFSI I think considering the performance of the car these figures are incredible, One of the things i dislike about the WRX is no matter how you drive one it still drinks fuel Last week I was out late night on a main road with little traffic on a 76 mile trip and doing 60 to 70 Mph the whole time I still only averaged 21/ 22 Mpg. Drive it like it should be are you in 18 to 20 mpg territory and mine isnt alone as most seem like that as I had one many years ago and it was the same, One thing interests me though is that if the VRS TFSI is the same engine as a Golf GTI are the mpg figures the same for a golf in driven in a similiar fashion.
  3. Im not an Octavia owner myself but was wondering about something ,Are you all using the trip recording for your MPG. Reason for my question was I had A toyota with a trip computer which was totally inaccurate in comparion to my actual fuel consumption.
  4. I think thats utterly fantastic as your right 170 bhp is no slouch of an engine and 70 mph isnt exactly dawdling along either.
  5. Thank you so much all of you that took the time to reply. After reading so many posts I am not sure whether I am more confused or not. Firstly my current car is an 04 Standard WRX with only a magnex exhaust fitted. Thats another interesting point in that it costs almost 3 times as much to get my car mapped againt the cost of mapping a VRS be it either diesel or petrol. Having looked at one today I have to say the interior has a classy feel unlike the Impreza but then again Subaru fans will say its a drivers car and that doesnt matter. Some of your comments about the handling being superior would concern me a little but in my own expereince the brakes on my car dont inspire me to that level of hard driving anyway. You are very lucky over there in the Uk as you seem to get the opportunity to test drive the car for a weekend or even a week that is unheard of over here which I think is a great pity, Finally what I intend to do now is to make a contact with a friend of mine who tells me that his friend who is now on his second VRS will very kindly let me have his car for an evening so I will then decide.
  6. After much thought I have decided to visit a Skoda Garge tomorrow morning to get a price on trading my Wrx Imprexa in against a new VRS for Jan/Feb 2008 I have a few questions which are particularly aimed at those of you on here who have come from a WRX to a VRS. How did you find the drive and handling compared to the Subaru ? Are the brakes good on a VRS as I found the brakes very poor on the WRX and in fact got Mintex Extreme Pads fitted which improved things a little. Another question is are the lights good ? I was considering the TDI 170 and getting it remapped but was a little worried getting that done to a brand new car . I did like the Subaru but it isnt perfect either with crazy fuel consumption also the brakes and lights I felt were not nearly as good as they should have been in such a car. I also found to get the most out of the car in terms of performance required a lot of gear changing. Sorry if I am asking a lot of questions but when spending almost 24 K on a car which is what they cost here In ireland you would like to get it right . Regards.
  7. I am familiar with gains from VAG cars having had a TT before and getting it mapped which increased BHP to 218 ,from 180 But that was not the entire stroy as it became a much better car to drive and it made no significant difference to fuel consumption. I suppose at the end of the day what I am looking for probably sounds unreasonable , buts its a high performance car without the high costs im currently experiencing, Another interesting point is that Insurance for me on either the VRS TDI or TFSI is roughly half what I am currently paying so thats another plus point.
  8. Thanks for reply Marcus But just one thing that bothers me a little I drove one of the sales reps cars where i work , it was 1.9 TDI and was a little dissapointed by the noice admittedly car had around 50 k on the clock but I thought it was pretty noisy even as motorway speeds.
  9. Thanks for the welcome Stu ,Dont get me wrong I love the Scooby but with 22/23 MPG the max I am getting and that is with pretty normal driving you soon get fed up with it , also the fact that the petrol tank is so small doesnt exactly help either.
  10. Hi to all on here. Hope I am allowed on here as I am currently driving an Impreza WRX but am strongly considering a new VRS in either 2,0 T or the 170 TDI Version . I am really impressed with the TDI one as it seems to combine both performance and economy so therefore I would greatly appreciate current owners views on both cars, I find its pretty hard to get a real impression of a car from a 15 to 20 min test drive considering its such a major purchase,
