  1. If it helps I've just had discs and pads done on a 07 1.4TDI hatchback that has done 67630 miles. The need to have them done was identified when I had the tyres changes and they were apparently below 3mm. Quote from Skoda garage (who are normally a very good price for servicing) was £220. Paid £181 at independent place. Word of warning that the wrong discs were supplied at the first attempt as the supplier listed only one part for the Fabia so it wasn't until they started the work that the supplied part was the wrong one. Quickly sorted so not a major problem but could be if you're trying to obtain your own parts.
  2. If anyone is interested in long term fuel consumption then on a 1.4 TDI since July 2007 I've spent about £6066 on fuel and covered around 64,000 miles. My maths makes that 0.094p a mile. And whilst I'm looking at it the total cost of the car including purchase price, service, MOT, RFL, Insurance (and 1 claim), tyres and few other bits is currently around £13000. Not such happy reading to consider I've spent nearly £20,000 primarily to get to work and back. On the plus side the car must still be worth a little something.
  3. I've stuck with the 10k mile service intervals for the last 60000 and not had any problems. The computer does tell you that the service should be at 10,000 KM (which is sooner) but I've normally taken that as the indication that I need to book the service soon rather than have it serviced! General consensus from what I've seen is that working on miles and not KM is ok. And if you're looking for a dealer in the Oxford area then I'd suggest you get prices from Grey Gables (just outside Witney) as the price difference between them and Jewson. I also can't fault Grey Gables - the guy even opened up and changed a headlight bulb for me on Boxing Day!
  4. My guess is that it will depend on the lenght of the pram. I've got a MK II hatchback and we bought a Babystyle Oyster (http://www.babystyle.co.uk/Oyster.html) which fits just fine. Since the wheels come of in four clicks it is possible to get the base unit behind the passenger seat (in the footwell) and still put the Maxi-Cosi on the rear seat. However, if I were to buy another car now that we've got the child...it would probably be an estate. Life would just be easier - but the hatchback isn't so bad we've felt the need to buy a new car.
  5. Have been using a Maxi-Cosi Cabrio Fix (the one that all new parents seem to end up with!) for about 6 months now and can't complain. Goes in and out nice and easily (unlike on my wife's 3 door Yaris!) Didn't bother with the ISOFix base. Only 'issue' we seem to have is that the seat can end up being more upright than in other cars and so the baby's head can drop forward when they sleep. If you remember then you can position to the seat so it tilts better and you get a baby!
  6. Just to complete the story - Work completed on Monday but the garage (Grey Gables - Witney/Oxon) hadn't prepared the invoice so it came in the post today. Work completed: 60,000 mile service Replace cam belt, rollers and tensioner Replace water pump and level coolant Replace front side light bulb Labour - £261 Parts - £212.29 VAT - £94.66 Total: £567.95 All in all I'm reasonably happy with that and more than happy with the service from Grey Gables.
  7. Has something changed then? The service book that came with the car clearly says it is 120,000 KM so that is a big difference. As the service cost seemed high just spoken to another dealer in the area and they indicated that it didn't nead doing until 80,000 miles or 4 years (which comes first). Their costs were: £250 for the service, £75 for the brake fluid and £390 for the belt. Ouch all round really. And just to add insult to injury had an argument with a Rover 25 at the weekend and cracked the bumper :'( Hmmm perhaps I should just buy a new VRS
  8. Hello... Nearly hit the 60,000 mile mark on my '07 plate 1.4TDI Fabia and so just rung to book it in for the service. Been told that Skoda recomend a cambelt change at 60k/4 years and so that I should have this done. Given that the price quoted wouldn't give much change from £600 just checked the service book and it suggests that the belt isn't due to be changed until 120,000 KM which I work out to be 74,500 miles. Does anyone know for certain what the position is? Just wondering how long I delay the pain for :'(
  9. The service reminder (900 miles) has flashed up for the 50k service and in just over a month the Fabia (1.4TD - Level 2) will be reach its 3rd birthday! Can't fault the car really, nothing has gone wrong, nothing rattles and it doesn't cost very much to run. So, other than sorting out the MOT and the 50k service is there anything else that I should be thinking about doing to it? Noticed that the air-con doesn't seem quite as effective as it was on day one but it still gets cold when left running for a little while. Third set of tyres on the front, and the originals on the rear still have life left in them which is good  Anyone know if Skoda give any options to extend the warranty at this point? A swap for a nice new one might be a bit much to expect :'(
  10. Did have this happen a couple of years ago - sat in traffic, used hand to wipe away the dust and screen went blank. Turning engine off/on solved the problem for me. Hope you get it sorted.
  11. This isn't the most accurate way to work things out but my estimate is I've achieved something like 50mpg over the life of the car so far. Figures are: Miles: 41500 Fuel: £3846 (Guess) Average price per litre = £1.05 That's from a whole cross section of driving though most trips will have been over 10 miles.
  12. Think I got about 20,000 from the original fronts before they needed to be replaced. Second set have got about 20,000 on them and are about at the limit. Rear set still got 4mm left on them (40,000) so a bit of life left there. No idea what make though sorry!
  13. The parcel shelf clips don't seem the best design and it doesn't seem to take much to knock them off the pin and if force expect they would snap quite easily. Mine seem to have survived so far...
  14. Is that the 10k/y1 service? If so then you need to check what it is they are planning to do as some Skoda dealers were trying to do a lot more than the specified service. £80-£100 seems to be about the price expected for the small service. I paid £244 for a 40k service which is the "big" one so would check what you're getting for your money!
  15. If I remember correctly then the handbook does say you're ok going 500 miles over to keep the warranty. It's a bit annoying having the "dong" going for the last 800 odd miles but for an extra few weeks driving without having to pay for the service I put up with it!
