  1. My skoda stereo (6 cd version) has suddenly stopped working - Won't come on at all. Was fine when I earlier, but wasn't working an hour later. Have tried a different fuse but doesn't make a difference. The red light flashes on the up/down buttons but that's it. Anyone had the same problem? Any thoughts on how much it'll cost to fix?
  2. Car in for service & mot Needs: Full Service MOT Front Discs & Pads Front Bushes Brake Fluid Change Handbrake Adjustment £700 :'(
  3. Thanks, I knew it wouldn't be that easy. Bid and lost for a full working key yesterday and have seen the blank blade on ebay The £30 for coding I can swallow, its the cost of the key that irks Will look around for someone to do laser cutting, but getting more inclined to save myself the hassle and spend the money...
  4. Own a 53 Plate Octavia and have misplaced 1 of the keys (Kids most likely ) Had a feeling it was going to be expensive, just not quite that bad... £130 for a replacement Flip Key (with Remote) and £28 to recode the new key and my other key. I expected the recoding cost to be a lot, not the actual key!!!! Don't mind paying the £28, would rather get a key cheaper - Any suggestions?
  5. Got in the car this morning (1.2 Classic) and the brakes had binded on slightly (Not been driven since Friday) Pulled away and noticed the ABS light hadn't gone out. Braking appears to be working fine though. Have checked FUSE 6 for cracks and appears ok, so am wondering if it's likely to be a wheel sensor? Anyone with VAGCom in the Hampshire / Southampton area? What's the likely replacement costs for these at a garage as I'm not hugely mechanically minded...?
  6. Need a 50k service and Brake Fluid Change. Been quoted between £150 & £200 (Inc Courtesy Car) from Indy's The Indy I was planning to take it to is the most expensive annoyingly - Would you get them to price match or just take it to the cheaper option? Just wondering if I get them to price match, they'll find something "wrong" on purpose to get some of their profit back....
  7. Think outing the dealer should be allowed, especially if it's any of the above!!
  8. Decided to choose Meadens (have always used Winchester in the past) in the end. They re-quoted to just under Winchester's price and offered to collect the car (saves me a 30 minute journey each way twice and courtesy car costs)
  9. Had all of my services done at my local Main dealer, but am debating what to do about my cambelt change. Phoned around all the dealers and Indy's in my area (Southampton) to get quotes For Cambelt, Tensioners & Pulleys and Waterpump (Plastic Impellor for comparison): Main Dealers: £360 or £380 - 2 Yr Warranty (Winchester or Meadens) Indys : £285, £299 or £310 - 1 Yr Warranty (Monks Auto, Independant or JKM) Which would you choose? Is the extra warranty worth the money?
  10. Following on from my tyres thread, does having differing tread patterns on the car make any difference to the handling? Considering F1 which are directional and the other 2 tyres on the car are standard non directioanl. Will this make any difference??
  11. Not planning any trackdays in my standard Octavia!! A decent road tyre is all I need :-)
  12. Car sailed through the MOT, but was warned my rears are nearing 2mm Need to replace them and would like views on worthy replacements. Don't want to skimp and want decent wet & dry performance. Considering F1 GSD3 (But know they wear quite badly) and Vredestein Ultracs at the moment. Any other opinions? Cheers.
  13. Neither of which are right - The car had exactly 27k when I bought it, and has only just gone over the 35k mark. If I need a service in 1000 miles, it'll be 1000 miles & 2 & 1/2 months early
  14. 35k, was 27k when I bought it. Even if they only did a standard service, it should surely give me a year or 12k before it needs servicing again??
