  1. I asked the garage when they did the change and they said they don't know it just turned up in a crate. I've looked all over the car and I can't see any markings and the ECU has not been altered in any way so assume its a cave but it is a brand new engine with 32/13 stamped on it so was made late last year. The engine code doesn't need to be altered on the v5 because if checked with vw it will be linked to the old code I was told. By the way does anybody know any sure fire way of telling the difference between a cave and cthe engine.
  2. My polo engine was replaced 2k ago with what looks like another cave but it is a brand new engine made late last year and it has not used a drop of oil :-)
  3. Cast into the block so when it was made. I'll ring vw UK and see what they can find out.
  4. I have a polo gti we've discussed this in another thread I just thought somebody may have an update on this particular thread. What is annoying me about this is not being able to find an engine number at all even though I'm 99% sure it's not a reconditioned engine as I found a stamp on the block that said 09/13 so must have been made last year and as they were not make cav engines it must be a CTH one. Would they defo have to replace the ECU as the e on the end of the code is the software and that is the same on both engines.
  5. I'm bumping this as I'm struggling to find any markings that resemble cave or cthe. I can make out some code on the front of the engine by exhaust manifold and the only other is a sticker on the timing cover but that just seems to be a part number.
  6. It was changed due to oil consumption and a misfire on idle but still not sure if its a cave or cthe. I would have thought with it having 31/13 stamped on the engine that it can only be a cthe as they stopped making the cave over a year and a half ago didn't they?
  7. The one thing I noticed immediately was the tick over was super smooth unlike my last engine as for power it still feels plenty quick but its a new engine and will still be tight I imagine.
  8. Defo a cave engine originally but was replaced with a brand new engine made in august 2013. As far as I'm aware if it was as I suspect a brand new engine made in august then it could be nothing else but a cthe engine surly.
  9. It came in a crate as a brand new engine here is a photo of the sticker. sorry can't upload here is what the stickwlers says O3C 100 O92 DX and it has a date of 31/13
  10. Alright guys I've got a polo gti and I've just had the engine replaced now I'm looking to find out if I have the CTHE or another CAVE but my dealer couldn't find an engine code and no matter how much I look I cannot find anything that has any of those letters on the engine.
  11. Well just said goodbye to her but Defo going to a good home cheers ash.
  12. I was telling Ash the soon to be owner that I'd contacted you both and that the car had been on the forum all of it's life and is still being very well cared for by me just like it's previous owners It really is a gem of a car and if I wasn't moving so close to work I wouldn't even be contemplating selling.
