  1. Just had a note from Skoda to say that my Superb is coming up to 4 years old and that the cambelt should be changed. It seems like the rules for a cambelt replacement are being chucked out of the window and they are now to be based on time rather than miles. As I have only covered 34000 miles I am starting to think that this is a VAG scheme for getting them rich and me poor!! I was always on the understanding that a cambelt change was about 70000 miles which most other manufacturers seem to follow. If running a VAG engine cost another £300/£400 every 4 years then they might not be so economical after all. As my car is covered by extended warranty I have no option but to pay within one month of the next service date. This will be remembered the next time I cost out my next new car!!
  2. Thanks - tried that - all it does is turn the radio up
  3. Does anybody know if the warning signal volume on the parking aid(rear sensors) can be turned up as we can hardly hear it. Can't find it in the instruction book
  4. The whole unit was changed with no quibble. This was lucky as the car is out of warranty next month so a big bill has been averted. The new unit has also been upgraded so now includes full UK post code facility. Still trying to download all of the music as obviously have lost all of the original stuff. The only problem is that the radio does not cut out when in reverse - garage can't sort this out with the settings. Has anybody got any idea how to resolve this with the settings menu?
  5. The central nav/radio/media screen has gone blank. The radio still works via the steering wheel controls but all other functions can not be used. Has anybody else had this problem - does the system have a separate screen or does it come as one whole unit. It is not a fuse problem as screen lights up as white. Any help would be gratefully received.
  6. I took the Superb Hatch in for a few minor adjustments last week - not bad for a new car with 16000 miles. One of the problems was a banging noise when the locks engaged when the hatch was closed(both doors).. The garage said that they completed the work as detailed in the recall but were unable to complete the work to remedy the noise until a jig was available. The jig apparently is required to align the hatch door to the body of the car. Has this been a problem for anybody else and, if so, how long before the jig became available?
  7. Thanks for the replies. Yes it was a small stone stuck between the disc and the shroud which came out with a bit of bending of the shroud and some reversing. Seems like a bit of a design fault to me, and the noise is so disproportionate to the problem! Might be useful information to other owners. Didn't need to call them, but has anyone used the Skoda assist in France - does it work well?
  8. Has anyone else had this problem? Went over small traffic bump - a loud screeching noise started from left rear wheel. Has continued to do this for some miles now. Noise gets less as speed increases, and almost non-existent when going completely straight. Disc appears clear and caliper not hot. As currently in the South of France -might need to call Skoda Assist out. Does anyone have any experience of this?
  9. Just a quick question for a friend who is ordering a Yeti SE - if he orders with a Columbus sat nav system does he still get a 6 CD changer or is it down to one like on my Superb - thanks
  10. Yes - that is all you do. If you do the adjustment at night you can see the lights moving fron one side to the other. The lights on the dash flash until you come back to GB. It is a really good system and I have not been flashed once. Am in south of France as we speak and it is blinking hot!!!!!!!
  11. Go out in the dark!!!! Seriously though if the little green light is on then all will be well. A really good bit of kit for you to enjoy.
  12. Thanks Argee - have tried what you suggested and it works. We have two instruction books with the car and they are both wrong! Will think of you next week when driving to the south of France.
  13. Help required please. Has anybody tried to convert their headlights for driving abroad. The manual says to go to set up and then to lights and vision but when in, there is no sign of what to do next. Am I missing something(or being thick!!!).
  14. Thanks Argee - have tried that but only mixes from the one folder not the whole library - will keep having a go at it though. You have got the same colour as me - not seen another on the road yet - only the common silver and blue ones - shame!!! Bet you are please to have moved from Gosport - the biggest cul- de-sac in the country.
  15. Does anybody know if you can shuffle all of the downloaded music put into the system. It seems that the mix only does the one CD(folder) and I like to be surprised by what may come next from the whole of my library!! The rest of the car is absolutely fantastic by the way.
  16. Just purchased a new Superb from Freeborns and the whole process from date of order til day of delivery has been excellent. The salesman, Andrew Harris, was helpful without being pushy and kept us informed of progress of the order at regular intervals. This is the 5th new Skoda we have had and Freeborns gave the best puchasing experience we have ever had. We choose to go to Freeborns rather than any dealer more local to us, as the reception of the sales staff are much better in our opinion. The Service Dept has now improved immeasurably with new reception staff who know about customer care, good communication and the value of brand loyalty. All in all a big thumbs up for Freeborn and their sales and service staff.
  17. Can anybody tell me whether the factory fit mats at £50-00 are any different to the retailer supplied items at £45-00 or even those at £38-00. Also does anybody know if the handbooks are available as attachments so new owners can have a read before their cars are delivered. Many thanks
  18. Many thanks for the info - most useful and has helped my dealer. Order now in and just a case of waiting.
  19. Has anybody ordered an Elegance with rear side window blinds(the pull up mechanical ones). The brochure is very unclear. Factory fitted options state rear and side blinds are available for £200-00 but as Elegance has rear blind already then this is not correct. Side blinds are avaiable for £125-00 but not on the Elegance list. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Two dealers spoken with today and neither knew the answer!!
  20. I will be in the market to buy a new Superb soon with an Octavia estate as part exchange. With all of the money markets in a state of flux and some garages in "interesting times" with their lack of sales I want to know when to get he best deal for me. Will it be best just to go for it now, wait till middle of winter or near to new registration in the spring? Part exchange values of Octavia will no doubt be tight but if garages want the trade then I will want a good deal which includes a discount Any advice gratefully received.
  21. Does anybody know how the new SD card system works? How many tracks(CD's) does a 2 gb card hold? When playing will the screen show which cd and/or track is playing. Seems a lot cheaper than a 6 cd changer option - is this too good to be true!!
  22. I went and had a look at the new Superb yesterday - I thought it was great and will almost certainly buy one soon. But hang on a minute as I have just read so much clap-trap on other threads about older people having Skodas I am not sure I am allowed any more!! Yes I am over 60 and to make matters worse I have a beard (it is white but not to worry as I think it is only an age thing and not catching for other Skoda drivers!!). I am really worried that me having a Skoda will have a dreadful effect on the younger drivers and that this will give them all a complex which will require psychiatric help for them to recover. Should I cancel my order or should I just put the comment down to ill advised youngsters who might themselves grow old(er) one day - I wonder which car they will choose then? If Skoda has strong products then the market is big enough for all ages to enjoy them - if not then they will go the same way as Rover which I am sure will not be the case. If/when I order my Superb it will be my fifth Skoda and not once has a saleman said please don't buy one as it offends me and the company. In fact the last salesman was older than me and he was really good at his job. Yes of course Skoda needs younger drivers and they need to continue to develop their customer base. But if they ignore their existing customers, however old, then I am sure they will do so at their peril. Not all of us are "old duffers". I still ride motorcycles (fast enough to keep up with the younger guys and girls) and still can drive my Octavia over 860 miles in a day to the south of France. My message to those who wrote on the last thread is " GET OVER YOURSELVES" as the World is big enough for all of us what ever age we are. Now time is getting on and I think I can hear(just) Matron calling me for my bed bath followed by a nice cup of hot chocolate and if I am lucky two biscuits. I hope I dream tonight of the car befitting my age - oh for that turbo Reliant Robin!!!! LOL
  23. I have just moved into the new and exiting age of the MP3 player - I am quite old!! I have an Octavia 2005 with the radio navigation system which I really love. However this system has an aux button for external units but does not seem to have any facility to plug said units in to. Is there something I am missing or can I find a way of playing the MP3 player direct without the need for a transmitter. All suggestions welcome as the instruction book is not that clear. Many thanks
