  1. My dad had nothing against the Vrs it did deliver bucket loads of grin factor it did exactly would it said on the tin lol. It's just that he thinks he had a Friday Car lol. However his next car would be an Audi TDI not sure of model though.
  2. One more question if all the faults that happened to any one of your Vrs, would you still have confidence in the car? The only main BIG problem was the track rod rattling about as the thread had stripped, as my dad was doing a lot of motorway driving and if that had gone my Dad wouldn't be here to tell the tale. It was only the RAC (Skoda Assist Tech) that told my dad he was very lucky he wasn't on the motorway had the track rod end had popped out and very bad things would have happened. I do appreciate all your comments but at the end of the day it was a joint decision to bide the Vrs farewell.
  3. Hi All, Thanks for all the comments they all made me cringe. The other issues were 1. When we went to pick the Vrs up the heater only operated on full speed. 2. O/S/F track rod thread stripped was floating about inside the metal tube. 3. Rev counter froze twice before being replaced with a new one. 4. Erratic idling wouldn't idle under a 1000 RPM this in turn caused the emissions light to come on. 5. Christmas eve EPC light and emissions light came on and stayed on. 6. Wind noise in the cabin coming from the N/S/R 1/4 light at motorway speed. 7. Complete renewal of front braking system at 25,000 miles as both disc's and pads where very badly corroded. (Gave me an excuse to upgrade to EBC Drilled & Grooved Combo along with Redstuff pads) 8. Everytime my Dad who drove the car requested a courtesy car he was told by the sevice manager that all the courtesy cars were out and that none where available. I realise that all of you must think l'm on crack cocaine for swapping a Vrs for a Mundano, but my Dad was tired of getting buses and the occassional taxi to and from his work to the Skoda garage to pick the Vrs up. The Skoda garage had the Vrs up for sale at £7950. The Mundano is just a stop gap at present no more no less.
  4. Needless to say l still have my eye on the sales manager's 58 plate Superb that is packed full of toys. I'm also keen on the Octavia Mk3 1.8TSI so who knows my Dad might be at the helm of an ex demo Superb that's fully loaded or a 1.8TSI Octavia.
  5. On Christmas Eve the Electronic Power Control light came on along with the emissions warning light. The car was swiftly taken to the Skoda dealer for a diagnostic, The master techie told us that the diagnostic indicated a possible fault in the ECU itself. So the car was booked in for further investigation work Wednesday 5th Jan 09. So after Christmas myself and my Dad popped into the dealer to ask about taking an extended warranty out on the Vrs. The sales man who sold us the car started laughing and said l thought you would be trading the car as it's nearly 3 years old, so l asked how much it would cost to be put in the Ford Mondeo Tdci that they had sitting there, and the sales manager said we will do you a straight swap. So we did a straight swap. But skoda will have to sort the EPC & Emissions light issue prior to the car being sold as it turns three years old on 3rd Feb 09. So on 7th Jan we said our goodbyes to the silver beast and hello to 05 55 Ford Mondeo Zetec Tdci.
  6. Hi All, Just to let you know that my Dad's Mk2 Octavia Vrs is away for good, after all the hassle he has had with the car from Christmas Eve to a week ago he swapped the beast for 55 plate Mondeo Tdci. We now pass the beast every night going to and from work. All l want to say is THANKS to everyone who has helped me in my moments of rant lol. Needless to say the skoda dealer has the beast up for sale at £7800. thanks once again you are all diamonds. Ex Vrs co-pilot Andy
  7. Hi Guys, My Dad's car is a A5 Octavia Vrs petrol on a 2006 55 plate. On Christmas Eve both the Electronic Power Control and Emissions light came on,:( the car was swiftly booked in at the Skoda dealer where we purchased it. The master tech who ran the diagnostic said it was indicating a possible ECU fault. He couldn't find a trace of what caused the emissions to come on and he said that it had probably cleared itself. The car is booked in for 7th January for further investigation, but worst case scenario is a new ECU. Is there anything else that would have caused both warning lights to come on, or is there anything else myself or my dad can check in the meantime? However the car is running fine and still pulling like a freight train when required. When asked by my Dad the Tech said the car would be ok to drive without risking damage to any other engine components ie CAT etc etc. I forgot to obtain the fault codes also sorry guys Thanks again Andy
  8. Well the car went in and to date no issue's whatever they did they cured it. Probably a firmware upgrade. Thanks for all your answers much appreciated. Andy
  9. It's a part number for a K&N induction kit for the Mk2 Octavia Vrs
  10. Hi Guys, I was in my local Skoda dealership today picking up new wiper blades and a pollen filter for my Dad's Octavia Mk2 Vrs, and l stumbled across the new Superb. After being taken on a test drive and the park assist being shown off, all l can say l was WANT ONE. The dealer has one in the showroom so l'm going to contact my bank and hope l get the funds soon.
  11. Car is booked in for Friday, hopefully they will update the firmware
  12. Hi, After reading all the tales, my dad uses National Tyres in Hamilton and all l can say is the service is good no probs so far. As for K F we wouldn't go near them lol. Just thought l would chip in my £2 worth
  13. Hi Guys, On Friday morning my dad was listening to the radio with the engine switched off keys were in ignition and also headlights switched off. When l got in the car he started the engine and turned the lights on, the stereo display wasn't on but all the buttons were lit up. The speakers popped, the stereo turned off and came back on all lit up as normal. Any idea's would be most welcome. Thanks Again Andy
  14. Hi All, The disc's and pads were fitted on Saturday morning at my Dad's work. Unfortunately not Black Diamond. I now have EBC Turbo groove disc's with dimples and EBC Redstuff pads.
  15. Hi All, The new uprated disc's and pads were fitted Saturday morning at my Dad's work, unfortunately they weren't Black diamond (as they don't do VRS Mk2). I now have a set EBC Turbo groove & dimpled discs along with EBC Redstuff pads. Also priced Milltek CAT back as well £600, also priced the full system too £1700. Will have to save hard for the CAT back option and REVO (£585) remap as well. And Forge Spacer to go and make WHOOSH noises as well lol
  16. Hi All, Received telephone call today from Driver's in Glasgow, that's my black diamond drilled and grooved discs in. I was in the shop on Saturday, the gentleman ordered them Monday and they arrived this morning Tuesday. So l will be looking at possibly an induction kit and a CAT back exhaust. and dump valve to finish everything off. Does anyone have have any recommendations regarding induction kit, CAT back exhaust & dump valve? All suggestions welcome Cheers Andy
  17. It was an impluse buy, the words drilled and grooved were out my mouth before l realised oooops. I should have them by Saturday (fingers crossed). I was speaking to the parts manager at Henry's North in Glasgow, he is driving a fabia Vrs with the 312mm Octavia Vrs brake upgrade. Also noticed a 06 plate petrol Octavia Vrs with grooved discs on it sitting parked at the side of the dealership as well. Also the guys at GSF in Glasgow were very helpful as well. I want the ETOS system they use it looks very helpful:) Thanks for all your help it is much appreciated. Andy Silver Octavia Mk2 Vrs owner
  18. I have ordered Black Diamond drilled and grooved discs with matching pads, from Drivers in Glasgow. Should be in the shop next week yayyyy
  19. Thanks for the reply Stu most welcome, I will see what GSF have in stock anyways. Knowing my luck they won't have what l'm after. After seeing the Brembo drilled and grooved disc's l want them.
  20. I believe the disc's on the MK2 Vrs are 312mm, is this correct? I fancy the Brembo sports disc's, What do you guys think? All suggestions welcome Andy
  21. Will hopefully be purchasing drilled and grooved discs along with uprated pads from GSF in Glasgow on Saturday
  22. You were all right the dealer said the disc's and pads are not covered under warranty. I will be hopefully buying drilled and grooved disc's along with uprated pads from GSF in Glasgow. Fingers crossed
  23. Well the idling problem has been fixed now, the silver beast is purring away now. As for the brakes everyone one was right, l will be buying new dics and pads (not from skoda) hopefully from GSF car parts in Glasgow. Thanks to you all for putting up with my mad rant:) Andy
