  1. I'll try calling them back with the vin number but the parts guy said they have to charge 30 minutes labour to check out all the different master keys they have so have to charge 40 quid plus 30 for whatever one it turns out to be. I already gave them the reg number over the phone so not too hopeful...I think they're probably trying to max the money out me! Thanks for the reply.
  2. Hi there. My locking wheel nut has gone amiss from my toolkit . I reckon it must have been....misplaced...the last time it went in for a tyre to be fitted so unbeknown to me ive been driving it around for a while with no locky. It's fitted with 15 inch helios alloys which were standard and is an 06 plate octavia estate. Can anyone advise me what type to get....Ive looked on the internet and they seem to be easy enough to come by but there are all different splines sizes etc...phoned my local dealer and they will charge £40 to look at the car and try all different sizes and then £30 for whatever one it is....does this seem reasonable...I've takem a pic if required but would need to figure out how to attach it. ...your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  3. I cant believe no one has any idea what these codes refer to. Have I posted this on the wrong part of the forum? Looked at moving it to the technical area but it doesnt seem to want to let me do that. Any advice appreciated.
  4. Hi there. Can anyone help identify the fault codes supplied below taken from my 1.9tdi 06 plate octavia. I have been getting intermittent warning lights for abs/esp, brake pad low warning (theyre fine all round.) The codes were taken from my friends VW Audi Scan vs450 vgate reader menus. 1.ABS.00668-034 can bus...."supply voltage terminal 30 sporadic 002 lower limit exceeded. 2.ABS.00287-040 can bus....abs wheel speed sensor rear right (G44) sporadic. 3. Engine. 05659-096 can bus....DTC definitions not found please refer to service manual. 4.Cent elec. 00987-044 can bus....lamp for brake light (left m9) sporadic 012 electrical fault. The lights are off more than theyre on but would welcome advice as to what they are and whether they would be a reasonably easy or costly fix. Thanks in advance. Alan.
  5. Thanks for the posts folks....there's no noticeable humming noise coming from the rear left so it's probably the ring that's on it's way out....I think I remember my mechanic saying something last year(when the right rear wheel bearing got replaced) about these rings failing and the whole hub having to be swapped so that all makes sense.....another trip to the garage! Again, thanks for taking the time to reply.
  6. Hi there. Recently there is an ABS/traction control light that has illuminated on the dash of my Octavia 1.9tdi and the anti skid light has come on (just above the ashtray.) My mate plugged in his diagnostic to the car and it has come up with the following code....ABS Wheel Speed Sensor:Rear Left (G46) "sporadic" 00290 and then I think there was another one 003Failure (mechanical.) I apologise if this subject has been covered before, but can anyone tell me what this means....is it the whole hub that has to be replaced or is it some kind of sensor somewhere else. Any advice would be much appreciated.Thanks.
  7. Thanks for the reply. Yeh you're probably right....Someone else had suggested that it may be a wiring fault which is a no no for me..time and weather also against me (west of Scotland)....rain rain rain....I'll leave it for the moment and get it booked in after new year. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
  8. Thanks for the replies folks. Christmas kind of got in the way! Anyways....turned the key in the lock manually left and right several times and the door opened. So I now have a door that opens and closes and the central locking works on all the doors.....except the drivers door....it now wont lock either with the key or with the fob although it sounds as if it has...when you open the door the alarm goes off......any ideas what this could be or is it best to bite the bullet and just put it into a skoda dealer who probably deals with this kind of issue day in day out. Many thanks in advance....
  9. Hi folks. I'm looking for a bit of help here. Tonight I tried to open the drivers door of my Octavia and although the external handle pulled out okay the door refused to open. I gave up and went in the passenger door to try the release handle from inside but no luck...I tried the internal locking button on the centre console (press/release) but no luck and there feels as if there is a bit of resistance from the internal drivers door release handle...as if some connector rod or something may have snapped inside.....anyway....does anyone know where I should start about getting to the root of the problem...obviously the door is closed so taking off the door panel doesnt appear to be an option....or is there some kind of emergency catch or something similar to whats in the boot (its an estate) that can get the tailgate open from the inside...any help would be appreciated or I'll be limboing in and out of the car for the forseeable! Thanks in advance.
  10. no idea where the front washer set up is mate. this washer thingy seems to be a major problem with skodas.... might be worth creating a new post for your problem and see what responses you get from that. sorry....can't help with that one.
  11. Many thanks for the replies folks. Gave it a go today and traced it back to the connection which is basically under the left hand side( as viewed from the back.) Bit of a pain to get at but once found the connector had come right off. Everywhere was awash with soapy water so dried it off and followed the advice reference neutralising everything with wd40..............a lot of wires there to corrode. A job well done.Thanks.
  12. Thanks for the replies. Where I am (Paisley, Scotland) its been snowing again (thought we'd seen the last of the stuff) and everything is totally frozen. Once it thaws again, I'll try out your suggestions....many thanks.
  13. Hi all. Can anyone advise me where to look for the connectors that deliver screenwash to the rear washer. My washer is just dribbling out after the cold weather with a fair delay before anything gets to it at all. This was a warranty job when I got the car but the skoda mechanics were guarded as to where it came from and how they got to the connectors. I'm imagining one has almost popped off somewhere but need to know where to start looking. The fronts are working fine if thats any help. Just looking for clues as to where to start removing trim etc.......there doesn't appear to be any water in the spare wheel well which was where it collected the last time........Many thanks in advance.
  14. has not set their status

  15. My 2006 octavia 1.9tdi is 4 years old in august 2010. I t will probably have done around 50-52k by then. I asked my motor engineer I take the car to what he thought of the cambeltbeing changed by mileage or age. He said that it should be done with age not mileage as it is the material the belt is made of that degrades with time and not neccesarily mileage, hence the varying mileage quotes between manufacturers. I'll go with what he says.
  16. this was one of the first warranty jobs on my octavia estate. the pipe had detached itself somewhere along the way and I was already forearmed about the skoda fluid saga. this was the first question the dealer asked me! obviously I had put skoda fluid in instead of the halfords stuff to take it in but I'm not sure if there is any way they can test this or not. I don't think the fluid is in any way the cause of the problem, its just down to poor design. I,ve been using halfords stuff ever since with no problems...I believe the fabias suffer the same problem as well.....at the time the service staff told me if it was not covered under warranty it would have cost me about 90 quid so be wary......
  17. Mine has just done something similar. when you press the plipper the led stays on and the red light in the drivers door remains solid...but you can still open the drivers door even though its supposed to be locked...all other doors are. Then the alarm under the bonnet goes off but you can hardly hear it and the hazards flash. Locked it with the key and order was restored, but I;ll need to get it booked into the skoda dealer for a look before the warranty runs out......is this covered by warranty, does anyone know??
  18. Hi folks.I'm replacing the two front tyres on my 1.9tdi octavia estate, size 205/60/15/91v. Its presently fitted with Michelin Pilot Primacys which are great but have been replaced with HP's. Can anyone recommend a good brand to replace them with. Longevity is more important than outright grip. The tyre dealer I normally go to suggests Pirelli p6/p7 or Conti eco contacts and says to stick to the top end tyres for longevity as the budget brands don't wear as well for the mainly motorway/a roads I'm driving on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks.
  19. Thanks for the reply.I've emailed them to see if they've got what I'm looking for.Cheers.
  20. Hi folks.Does anyone know where I can buy a pair of Michelin Pilot Primacy tyres size 205/60 R15 91V as fitted to my octavia A5 1.9tdi estate? The scenario is the front two are nearly done and I have a full size brand new alloy spare, so I was hoping to buy just one tyre to match and stick one of the old ones on as a spare while still legal.Problem is any dealer I've tried say they're discontinued or can't get them. I've tried the likes of black circles and e-tyres on tinternet with no luck.Even flea bay hasn't turned up any in my size. Oh incidently they have the letters hse after the Pilot Primacy bit on the tyre......don't know if that makes any diff. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If not and i have to buy two new fronts can anyone suggest a good experience with a particular brand......longevity is more important than outright grip. Many thanks.
  21. Thought I'd through in my "tuppence worth." 06 ocatvia 1.9 tdi ambiente. I use mine mainly for commutes to work on an 80 mile round trip of motorway and A roads. I drive like a nun now, given the cost of fuel and usually stick to the speed limits. So, on the aforementioned trip mostly 50/60 and some 70 driving I'm getting between 55 and 60 mpg(brim method of calculation.) My trip computer is pretty accurate as well being only a couple of mpg over optimistic. Economy/engine wise I'd say go for it, but as for build quality and the like, I'm not so sure. I'm of the opinion now that you either get a good, well built car whatever the marque or you get a Monday car like mine.
  22. thanks to all who posted replies. I suppose on the strength of whats been posted I'll just stick with the current overpriced offerings on our forecourts..........
  23. Hi folks.can anyone tell me why my octavia 1.9tdi 06 plate(new shape) is not allowed to use biodiesel? someone I know reckons its dueto a diesel particulate filter. can anyone shed any light on whether this is correct andif not why can't it be used.thanks.
