  1. Thanks both for your replies. I had already been thinking about what your saying about getting the right length and diameter rum4mo, when i spotted those ones on ebay last night. I Haven't been back in touch with the welder who said he could do it for me yet to discuss it any further but should see him over the next couple of days. He said the main problem would be sourcing a flexipipe suitable. Iv had a look on the senior aftermarket site - thanks for sharing the info on this. I was curious to know what model you did the repair on Rum4mo and can you give an idea of how much the flexi pipe cost you from them, just so i know what ballpark prices Im looking at for the part? The ebay ones look very similar but i notice more detail on senior aftermarket, there's 3 different types, unlined, braid lined or interlock lined. Im guessing the later 2 would be best as descriptions indicate they can withstand higher temps, stronger and more durable. Good to know you had a successful outcome with yours, any indication of prices etc would be great.
  2. fabia model - 05 plate 1.4 16v 100bhp fabia estate Hi guys, Hope im not posting a new thread for something covered. I did search the forums 1st but it didnt answer my questions. I had my car motd a couple of months back and just before it I took the car to an independant local exhaust & tyre company to check my exhaust out ( I had a warning on the rear box on the previous mot that it was deteriorating a bit). They said the exhaust was a bit rusty but no holes and id get away with leaving it for time being. The bloke said to me tho that i was needing a new cat converter and priced it at £300+ inc fitting. I went back and spoke to the mechanic who does my mot for me and he said leave it and put it through mot then sort any issues from there. I did this and passed no problems - no warnings this time yet the exhaust is still the same. I put my car in for a service today, All was fine but the mechanic advised me that the "flexi pipe" at the end of the catalytic convertor where it joins to the front section of exhaust is blowing and has a small hole. He put it up on the ramps and showed me it and i can see where hes talking about. I told him that I had been priced £300+ by the exhaust place up the road. He said it might be possible to get a replacement flexi pipe and cut the old one out and weld on the new one to cut down on costs. He said he wasnt sure where to source the flexi pipe and told me to check online to see if i could find one. I have looked but can only see full cats for sale. Is it at all possible to get hold of just the flexi pipe itself or am i going to have to replace the full cat? Seems silly as he says the actual cat itself is fine. If im going to need a new full cat can anyone point me in the right direction on what i need to go for (i kno theres ceramic vs stainless steel, and one site was saying about cats with obd sensors and ones which dont) and where is best to buy them from for value for money. Im hoping I wont need to fork out over £300! Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Edit- since posting I have just seen these flexipipes on ebay at this link Would this be what i would need? I notice they do 1-3" diameter and various lengths.
  3. I lost control on a motorway slip road due to a diesel spillage, my fabia did two full spins and i came to a hault with my dirver door facing oncoming traffic, to make things worse it was on a blind corner as well. I caught my breath and quickly straightened the car up and go it over to the embankment and up the kerb out of harms way, put my finger on the hazards button and suddenly saw a purple mass hurtling and screaching towards my tail end in the same spin as I had done. It was a Peugeot 307 and it hit me full force on the back end. Walked away from it but still got back problems from it now 9 months on. My Fabia was written off!
  4. Hi all, Looking for some advice - I Bought a 05 Fabia Estate (1.4 16v 100BHP) 3 months ago.I Got a 12 month warranty from Skoda Dealership as part of the sale. It was still under the initial warranty for a month or so when I bought it and the rest was made up with the dealership warranty). I noticed about a month ago the rear footwell carpet at the driver side was slightly damp. Thought it may have been down to the kids! Recently the weather has been bad with a lot of heavy rain. I now have gone from a damp carpet to a wet carpet. Every time i open the rear door there is water sitting on top of the rubber door seal and on the plastic trim further into the car that leads onto the carpet. I dont see this on any of the other doors. Did some research and im 99% sure its down to the rear ancillaries carriers (the steel plate under the door trim?). I notice this is a problem for alot of skoda owners and also found same issues with VW and Seat which comes as no surprise. Got onto the phone to the dealer and explained situation, was told that my warranty doesnt cover water ingress but they would check with Skoda warranty or somthing regarding this (mumbling at this point and i couldnt understand what was going to be checked.) I got a phone call back saying that Skoda will pay 80% of bill if I pay 20%. I then said, hmmmm why is that then? Is there a known issue..... The answer I got was a quick and quiet "there must be". I asked what the 20% was inc labour and was quoted £40. I said i would phone back later but sitting thinking about it, its not down to wear and tear and its definately in my oppinion a desgin fault. Why should i fork out all that money for a relatively "young" car and then get this a couple of months into having it. I have seen other forums saying theirs was fixed through warranty so what should i do? Im tempted to go into the dealership and complain about it. Any advice would be reatly appreciated!
  5. Hi all, A relative of mines has a Felicia Estate 1.3 and the clutch is slipping. Can smell the "burning rubber" smell and giving it alot of revs to get it going, out of action now though. Looks like replacement is needed. Can anyone give me an estimate on how much parts/ labour would roughly be? Had a look online but cant get any prices. Thanks.
  6. Hi guys, I'm planning on taking out the Symphony CD player from my fabia and replacing it with an aftersales one that supports MP3, USB and SD Card reader. I had a fabia before and changed one in it aswell but i distinctly remember that i have to swap two wires over because it wouldnt power off and I could hear a humming noise through the speakers constantly. This was a while back and i cant remember which wires etc. Something to do with the red and yellow wires?(dont know if this is right ) Can anyone give me a recap on this procedure before I attempt to install the aftersales HU so that I dont mess it up. Any info would be appreciated.
  7. I have to say myself and other members of my family have always used this garage for years, spanning back to when the garage was a mile down the road into broxburn and not the new one at uphall side. I can even remember the owner before Stuart, when my dad was buying an estelle! Stuart is a good guy and has been there a long time whith plenty experience, as well as the some of the mechanics who do a great job behind the scenes. Things have went a bit more mainstream as Skoda has grown over the years but this is to be expected. Only downpoint i find is not being able to see whats being done to the car but was told the garage with shutters was down to the VW influence. I dont think I would get better deals or treatment any where else. Very quick at ordering any parts I have needed and always had the car back same day. I would like to mention Ian who is the salesman at the original gargage dealing with their used cars further down into broxburn (anything you buy there still comes under the main dealership and you get the same treatment). I have always found the guy really helpful and doesnt pressure you like I have experienced at many other garages when looking at cars. Very knowledgable guy and more than willing to help.
  8. Hi, Im looking at buying a Fabia 1.4 16v (100BHP) and looking to know when the cam belt should be changed. I know there are other threads about cam belt changes but none really give a definitive answer for me. Its an 05plate (registered July 05) and done 40K. Im getting a service and mot done which has been agreed in the deal but wanted to know if i should expect the cam belt to be changed due to the 40k on the clock. Some have said 60K but i dont know if this is true. Just want to know in advance so i can check whats done on the service and know whether to speak up about this if it isnt done.
  9. Hi All, I bought a Y reg Fabia Comfort 1.9 SDI last year at 39.5K. Just had my 1st MOT done with nothing needing to be done. I am now getting the service reminder on the dash now that the car has done approx 50K. When i bought it the skoda dealership gave it a full service and changed the V Belt on it. With this being my 1st car i dont know much about servicing and whats checked/done when this is done. I was wondering roughly how much i would be looking at to get a full service done and what gets done for the money? Some friends have suggested I may just want to get an oil and filter change and redo the coolant etc. I dont really want to fork out cash just for a dealerships stamp on a book to say its been serviced. I remember a friend swore by getting his vectra serviced once or even twice a year as he was confident that when he came to sell the car he would get a good price for the car due to the full service history. I remember his dissapointment when he sold the car and got no more for it than what he would have if he had partial history. Any information or advice anyone can give me about servicing would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  10. Hi All, This is my first post but my dad has had the problem with two glowing lights on the dash when running it. He is having major issues with a leak at the passenger side and got this problem along with it. He forked out for a new altinator and battery has been changed and it still done it. He got someone to look at it and they checked the fuse box - Because of the leak there was rust in there bridging some of the electrics (i think it was a relay box) - this was scraped and cleaned out which seems to have solved the lights coming in faintly and glowing now. Still got the leak though. Thought this may help - Check the soundproofing under the dash for any moisture, might be same thing.
