  1. Seeing as this is not an uncommon issue, has anybody found somewhere that can rebuild or repair failing struts, rather than just converting to manual ones? I'm also thinking that this part won't be unique to the Superb Combi, I wonder where else it may have been used either in VAG or another manufacturer perhaps?
  2. Understood, thanks for your advice!
  3. No, I don't have VCDS. Is it easy to get hold of? I've seen some on ebay for between £6-10, but also some from UK sources for £200. DO you recommend a source please?
  4. I was running ones very similar to the one's you've linked to, until the RH started switching on then off again. I tried going back to the standard filament type bulb, but it's doing the same thing turning on, then off after 5-10s then throwing up the error. My lighting is now completely original equipment, but still showing this error hence why I'm thinking it's a canbus error perhaps?
  5. Morning all, I've been running led sidelights for a little while now but have had to replace my LH one recently as it stopped working. My RH sidelight has started to switch off after about 10 minutes of driving, and throws up a canbus warning saying it is out. I replaced it with another (different) led and it would switch on for 10seconds or so, then would go out and throw the error on the MFD. I then decided to switch both sidelights back to standard filament bulbs. LH one works fine, RH one lights for 10s then goes out again. It does this every time the lights are turned on. Does anyone have any ideas what might be happening? Sounds like a canbus issue to me but have no idea how to correct it. Can the canbus be reset? Thanks, Ian
  6. Mainly, the gearbox is heavier (+35kg). All being said, if ratios are the same, I doubt gearbox friction will be that much different. The reduction you see in CO2 on some gearbox's is down to either different ratios over a manual for the official rating or the fact it is programmed to change up much earlier than most people do in a manual box. In the real world, unless you go with the flow all the time with dsg and normally have a heavy right foot, I suspect a well driven manual will be more economical. Also you can coast in a manual, whereas only the very latest DSG's can do this...that has quite a markes afcet on economy.
  7. Thanks all. Seems my Octy will be fixed in time after all, though not without a new turbo :-(. Good to know i have the flexibility of the roof box for the Fabia though.
  8. Thanks, that helps a lot. The pacific 100 is about 380 litres, so sounds like it will fit just fine.
  9. Hi all, Will a Thule Pacific 100 fit my Fabia? Due to the VGT sticking on my Octy PD140, am looking at have to take the Fabia on holiday instead... Thanks in advance, Ian
  10. Some details have been released on Autocar's website http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/moscow-motor-show-2012/moscow-motor-show-skoda-octavia-details-announced 4.8m long though??? That's virtually Superb length isn't it? One of the benefits of the currenty Octy for me is that it has a huge boot and half decent interior space in a not too big a footprint.
  11. Audi use LEDs only headlights on the R8, so they are being ftted to road cars, though I guess they're expensive.
  12. Or you're in the over fuelling region (designed to keep your turbo cool) and combustion isn't as complete or clean and the cat can't cope with it all What you're seeing is a combination of unburnt fuel and some soot. Nothing harmful for your engine, not good for emissions or fuel economy (but then you're booting it at full revs so....).
  13. If an Ambiente, then 205/60/15, if an Elegance, then 205/55/16. 2.0Tdi wasn't available as a Classic (195/65/15), so you appear to have some non-standard sized tyres on your car. Hope this helps and no, you're not being a girl, you're right to question it!
  14. Yup, the exact same thing happened to my Mk1 Focus, that's how I identified what was happening to my Octy...
  15. Ah, ok, thanks for the document. Thought it might be too good to be true...
