  1. I also have this problem on a 2004 Octavia TDi. The problem (from previous info on forum) is that the sensor is in the door lock. Does your "puddle light"(at the bottom of the door) come on? Mine comes on briefly as does the buzzer, but only briefly, and if you open the door quickly with the lights left on you wont hear the buzzer at all. So unless you want to change the lock(thats what the dealers will offer!) you will just have to live with the inconvenience. Sorry.:(
  2. Cracked the sump on my first Octy 1 on a rutted road. Noticed small leak and though it was a loose drain plug after servicing. My garage sorted it out with a spot weld no problem. Sump guard on later models should protect.
  3. Thanks again Fordfan. But when I went back to it the motor seemed to reset itself and now working fine. Got too dark to refit the panel. Awkward job, the panel I mean, and dont fancy replacing too many regulators. New regulator from Micksgarage.ie €85.00 delivered 24 hours. Skoda part around €115. Not bad eh?
  4. Help please! Just replaced front window regulator. Motor is fine , but when I connect everything up the window will only go up 3/4 or 4/5th of way. AARGH! Whats wrong? Do I have to fiddle with the cables?
  5. The automatic window drivers side of my Octavia 2004 Ambiente TDI has been making noise since I got it a month ago. On my list to lubricate or whatever. Anyway got a call today from swmbo today; "Remember that noisy window? Well its stuck near the top after several attempts at closing, sounds really sick." Sure enough when I got home after my golf game there it was, open. Lowered it again and noisily got it up partially but had to pull it up the final couple of inches. Having searched this great forum I see that faulty regulators and broken plastic clips are more than likely the cause of electric window problems of this nature. Does this require a new motor/regulator(are they the same?), or can it simply be a case of the glass coming off runners , or a cable problem etc? Can it be fixed?
  6. Well its not a fuse! Just noticed the dome(puddle) light comes on momentarily when the the door is just open a fraction, and wait for it , the buzzer actually works during this brief illumination! I can hear the door switch clicking on and off- light on/off- but its obviously faulty. Wouldn't mind fixing it if its not a difficult job, since i just got the car- you know the way it is. Anyone done this? Thanks for all the follow ups.
  7. Check under the mat in the boot. There should be a sticker(LHS, beside spare wheel) with a load of codes on it. At the top of the sticker the car is identified by Engine Code ALH,AGR etc. Just above this but below OCTAVIA you will see one of the following; 66kW, 74 kW,110kW, 85kW etc etc. The kW figure equate to the BHB; 66 is 90bhp, 74 is 100, 110 is 150, 85 is 115, so 96 should be 130. Simple? Not really. I got this info off Briskoda. A truly fantastic site we are logged into. Anyway let us know how you get on and the best of luck with the new car, if purchased.
  8. Just traded in my Octavia SLXTDI with 123k miles for an 04 Ambiente 90bhp with just 52k. Bought from independent dealer at a good price - got a great trade-in. Just got it today and have noticed that the 'lights left on' buzzer does not work; or is it a case that there just isn't one? Anyone got any clues on this. Would have thought that it was a standard feature at this stage. Thanks:confused:
  9. This is my first post so bear with me. I have owned an Octavia 1.9TDI 110bhb for the past 15 months. 98k in clock when purchased now over 120k. Up until the past 3-4 months fuel consumption has averaged 53-56mpg which i considered to be very economical. The problem is that it has noticably worse recently, certainly 15-20% less mpg. I have read many of the threads which suggest different diesel for winter use, use of lights etc etc; but I did not notice any dropoff LAST winter (my first with a TDI) Could it be the age/mileage of the car, just wear and tear? The car had a couple of previous owners and I have no clue as to use/abuse by those drivers. I service it every 10000 miles. Any pointers?
  10. If its legroom you want then the Octy2 is the car, but for that classic Skoda look the Octy1 is the biz!
