  1. go for the Toyo's T1-R , miles better than the T1-S cheers Dazz
  2. Well If I could have stayed in the VAG family I would have... Octy MkII 140 TDI ( with Elegance or Sport Spec ) either too old/ too many miles and too expensive... New Leon, too expensive, nice looker, cheap crap dash, solid suspension ride New Passat 2.0 TDI 140 -- too expensive... Superb.. No based on old ( not that good Passat )... So that left the Fabia vRS.... Which I genuinely liked a lot!!! but local dealers are wanting quite frankly silly money for 2 year old cars ( I remember they did this with the MK1 Octy vRS and will no doubt do it with the MKII - buying all the low miles good stock and thus keeping prices high ) After 1 hour test drive, the Fabia was good but looks dated inside, with virtually no kit ( The SE version is better - just cus of the black leather, but they could have put climate and livened the interior up a bit... poor PX value for my Octy + no discount or other offer of a deal. put me off big style... A mate owns a Mondeo ST TDCI .. After having the briefest drive of that, with the handling and overall design I went and test drove a Titanium model ( I was actually interested in the Zetec ) but the extras on the Titanium are worth it.. 17 inch alloys, better MP3 stereo, auto lights, wipers, puddle door lights... etc And I really enjoyed the drive, the 130bhp engine, is smoother than any VAG TDI engine i've driven, it handles and gives good ride comfort even on the roughest of roads, its quiet and just as quick as most equivalent cars of this type... The other thing was the price I picked it up with 15K on the clock, 56 plate. for 45% off new retail thats it I'm a Mundeo driver..... cheers Daz
  3. My 4year old vRS has finally been traded in.... 92K miles with all the issues it has had + suspension really needing attention soon + Cambelt etc + major variable with plugs, etc... Change of job also meant loss of company fuel card.. So after test driving Fabia vRS and Mondeo TDCI 130hp... I'm now the owner of a 56 plate Mondeo TDCI 130bhp Titanium in silver... which was similar money to the Fabia's The Mondeo is a far better proposition for me, howver the Fabia was very good to drive etc.. It was the lack of kit + the attitude displayed by the Skoda dealer.. I removed the Aero wiper kit, which will be appearing on a website to sell it!! I also removed the Alpine and the Infinity speakers... The infinity's might be finding a new home in the Mondeo, but the standard Sony HU looks and sounds good enough to not bother messing around with adaptors and facias etc..... So farewell Octy, welcmoe Mondeo!!! Dazz
  4. So don't take a flight in most aircraft cus these take off and land on retreads!! a few hundred ton of 747 comming in with a cross wind, lands at an angle before straighting out.... Your choice... What risk? Out of date concern!
  5. What a load of twaddle getting spoken about.... I used a good brand of retreads, Colway for about 7 years solid, fitted to various Audi's throughout the ninety's these performed without issue, true they don't last quite as long as SOME new tyres, but if you compare them to quite a few 'budget new' then they make more sense, as they last longer and grip better than these budget new... for example my wife's N plate Mondeo ran on Federal budget tyres ( new ) these had the grip of teflon and lasted 10K, the Colways that have replaced them are rated as a H ( 130mph ) and have lasted 16K so far, with 3.5mm remaining... and they grip the road well in all conditions... So for basically 1/2 the price of new budget you are getting a better product! I agree some unknown remoulds dangerous, but that was years ago before all the legislation came in to test retreads to similar standards as new tyres. The simple fact is most of the examples quoted on here are from years ago, not recently... Plus the fact that airlines and HGV use them without issue this makes most perception on here quite frankly outdated! Strange as it is with the concern over the enviroment that one source of renewable product is shunned based on 1970's or 80's poor quality.... Given that would you trust your life in a 1960's Mino without seatbelts and the crash protection of that era? Compare that to your 21st century Skoda with the crash protection thats here now, which would you prefer to drive down the M6 in rush hour? Same goes for tyres of all types, and that includes re-treads...... cheers Dazz
  6. I trimmed the blade by about 1cm to clear surround, the 'wiper' with the endcap clears it no problem... cheers Dazz
  7. Not at all... Infact they clear the majority of the screen its a plus.. cheers dazz
  8. Here we go pictures as promised... Before upgrade.. 24 inch Valeo with spoiler.. 20 inch without..
  9. How would you get on with the High security SL version? Would you still be able to get a purchase? Also would'nt this damage the wheel bearing? cheers Dazz
  10. P.s. OEM MKIV wipers blades will be appearing on fleabay soon.... oh and I forgot to mention the absence of wind noise from these blades...... major difference... cheers Dazz
  11. Ok.. Its fitted and what a difference!!!! Spent 5 minutes a side loosening the old wiper arms, patience is required and not much force just gently pressing up and down of the arm eventually breaks the resistance ( Lummox's method )... MKIV arms on... MKV blades fitted.... Now the 24 inch drivers blade fits perfectly. however the passenger side even though it is the standard 19 inch size is actually positioned further out on the screen, the MK5 Golf must be wider.. This was not really an issue, it means I had to trim 1 cm from blade to clear the trim. As I had the OEM MKIV wiper blades as well I tried the passenger blade which fitted as normal and fitted very nicely with the 24 inch blade... However given that to purchase at the dealers would prove very expensive... the MKV blades wipe more of the screen and are cheaper than the MKIV set...
  12. MKIV arm/blade set purchased.. MKV blades on order.... Awaiting fitment...! Pics to follow! cheers Dazz
  13. Who is doing the group buy? And how much is the going rate? ta Dazz.. P.s. I'll post pics of the normal wipers with 24/20 blades they just fit and wipe a greater area.....
  14. Ok... I'm very close to purchasing a MKIV upgrade and a set of MK5 Golf blades... I'll let U know how I get on.. As standard wipers are almost dangerous in this weather!!!... How about if it works getting various suppliers to get GB on these? No good for me but good for others.. Ta Dazz
  15. There you've answered the question I asked, the arms won't fit... I already was aware that the MKIV upgrade would fit but it would still be with the standard blade lengths... As stated my current setup is a 24 drivers and 20 passenger, it just about fits and does not foul anything.... Also I was not trying to be rude, but trying to get an answer to a specific question.. That is not asked/answered by searching.. Just need to obtain MKIV arms and MK5 blades Thanks for you help.. ta... Dazz:thumbup:
  16. I second this, price, performance and give good service life... I would also go for 225x45x17 as stated alot cheaper than 205x50.. cheers Dazz
  17. Yes I've considered the retro fit blades, but thought a OEM upgrade would not only look neater but work better.. cheers Dazz
  18. Am I speaking to myself? .. I think the standard 21/19 wipers are not as good as 24/20 as more of the screen is clear... Same reason for fitting uprated bulb's, aero wipers, suspension to rectify things on the car that can be improved! Also this is not the question i'm asking... Daz
  19. I would use the mk4 arms as long as the mk5 blades fitted, I don't think the standard 21/19 blades wipe enough of the screen... hence using 24/20 or 24/19... bigger area of clear screen... cheers Daz
  20. Having tried different wipers from Valeo and Bosch and in both standard and different lengths, and just replacing the os arm because the blade lifts around 70mph My current setup is the following 1 x 24inch Valeo spoiler ( drivers )and 1 x 20inch valeo without spoiler ( passenger ), these fit just. The Bosch ones that I originally bought are the 21inch and 20inch both with spoiler.... The longer blades clear more of the screen thats why I went for them.. But all combinations i've tried are not that good on the Octy 1 , it must be the aerodynamics across the screen because they work fine on the missus Mondeo MK1... So my question is, I've been looking closly at the wiperarm/blade setup on the MK5 Golf and the MK2 Octavia, and it looks like they could fit on the MK1 Octy and be able to use the standard ( mk2 blades ) - which are 24/19 inch.. The only issue I can think of is if the splined attachments are different on the later models than the earlier cars? cheers Dazz
  21. Ex USN F14-D Tomcat .... why drive when you could fly and arrive in style!! P.s. Anyone know what the MPG would be? Daz

  23. Blah blah... The facts speak for themselves... 7 times world champ... and every record bar the number of GP starts... when whoever you support beats these then you will have a case.. Dazz
