  1. Thanks buddy. Appreciate the link. £ 6k is our max budget to be honest. Our '06 plate car had 120k on the clock and the insurance company would only give us 4k for it, despite a very long a protracted series of conversations where I quoted Parker's & Glass's figures. I had the car since new and it had a tow bar and various other extra's added. As it's used as the family wagon, it gets wrecked by the kids so we're not out to spend any more than this on an estate until c18months from now when we'll be out to buy a new car which will last for the next 6 years (like the vRS did). 2. Hi Folks, I'm on the market for a replacement VRS Estate after ours was written off in an accident (not our fault I add). Saw this on AT: http://www.autotrade...ock?logcode=dsp Looks in great nick but I'm *a little* worried about the after market Brembo's. May signify some heavy use and/or track use? Does anyone know the car? Thanks, Stu
  3. Thanks guys. Looks like a reconditioned box is the way forwards. Following up a couple of leads locally...will post by return
  4. By way of follow-through, if there's anyone from Jabba / Unit18 or the like who could quote for the work...?
  5. The gearbox on my petrol VRS estate has started whining after 80k miles. Only noticeable at low revs and low speed (under 10mph). It sound slike it might be the clutch release bearings but more likely gearbox bearings on the way out. Car not been chipped or any increase in power but has been used for c8-10 towing journeys, towing my race car (Lotus Elise) which is c750KG's + the trailer. Not *that* heavy. I've seen used MkV GTi gearboxes on eBay from breakers cost c£500-700. Would a GTi box constitute a direct replacement? How much for a brand spanking new box from a dealer ? I am guessing £1,500 + fitting? Can anyone recommend a decent VW or Skoda specialist in the Thames Valley / M40 area who could fit a used box for me if new one too expensive? Thanks, Stu
  6. OK so.....I'm pleased I found this thread. The cruise control on my MkII vRS estate just stopped working. Well, it's been on the way out for about a week. Like many on this thread, I have a long commute and the last 2 days have been torture without it. Going to buy some CD cleaning fluid and cotton buds tomorrow and set about fixing it. For undoing the small TORX nuts, do i need a special screwdriver? I'm going to order a "I love cruise-control" T-shirt i think......
  7. BTTT For those bluefin owners - what type of MPG are you seeing on Motorway runs? My morning commute consists of c20 mins of B-roads followed by 40 mins of motorway. If I drive like Miss Daisy, I can just about get 32mpg. On a long motorway run - for example I left heathrow airport the other day and drove back home via M4 and A34, I got 35mpg. *Just*
  8. Just resurrecting this post.... How easy is it for a dealer to trace the bluefin map at a service? My car is 40k+ miles (only 18 mths or so old) and is due in the next 3 k miles or so for another service: just don't want them turning around and refusing a warranty part that's all.... thoughts?
  9. Hi everyone, I've been looking on the web for some tuning info on my Octavia and wasn't expecting to find a Skoda-specific website so, top work I fancy remapping my car. Bluefin and Revo are the leading contenders (suggest any others?). I've owned various VW's and Audi's in the past and have had remaps done at AmD as well as superchips, when they offered pre-bluefin products. Has anyone one here got experience of either of the above? The Bluefin remap offers 241bhp - I guess this is the same as the MkV GTi engine. I am reading much about DV failure in the MkV GTi (it happened on my friends Edition 30) and also on the Octavia. If I am remapping, would you recommend changing the DV to a version "C" in the process? Any info appreciated! Stu
