  1. My CEL lamp came on 1 week out of warranty. Took it to local skoda dealer, £33 to run diagnostics. Initially suggested it was dpf needing replacement, then said it was the exhaust gas pressure sensor (slight difference in price!). Seems to be a common theme with the diesels looking at this feed. They reset it but CEL came back on next day, so looks like I'll be booking it in for replacement sensor.
  2. I've done 3 different commutes with my PD VRS. Originally 25miles A road/M-way/Town averaged 42mpg. Then 35miles Town/Dual Carriageway/A&B roads/Town 42-48mpg. Recently 4 miles across town 36mpg. Not prone to a light right foot in any commute. Best mileage so far was non-stop 500miles Plymouth to Edinburgh, 49litres to refuel tank at the end and again no hanging about plus climate on all the way. And for those reasons I like the diesel. However, should have got a petrol cos the forums say its more fun and that's what driving a VRS is all about.
  3. I picked up the new tyre on Monday, has held pressure so far, but will keep an eye. Dent in the alloy doesn't look so bad now, probably cos the tyre is nice and shiny new. Will post a pic if I get chance but hopefully I was lucky and it hasn't interfered with the seal of the tyre. Thanks for all the advice.
  4. Thanks for the advice, got it to a fitter today. They thought the rim was OK on initial inspection, though didn't get chance to pick it up after work, however no calls to suggest any problems. Shall, as advised, keep an eye on it when I get it back. My space saver is also the standard 205/55 R16 steel wheel.(The same as SWMBO's standard focus tyre/wheel, but that's allowed to do more than fifty). Part of my commute is on the A38 in Devon, part of which has a temporary 50mph limit with average speed camera's for roadworks at night ('but we'll still speed check you during the day when no roadworks are taking place'). Had a few interesting moments as I left the roadworks and didn't accelerate away, while the people behind obliviously tried to rear end the car, think space savers should all come with a flashing amber light and a slow moving vehicle sign.
  5. Got forced (by a van) to the edge of a narrow B road today, where the tyre/wheel made contact with a piece of rock/concrete jutting out from the dirt verge. End result = gash in the sidewall and a small amount of flattening of the rim. I know the tyre will need replacing, which was a new F1 asymmetric 2 months ago. But does anybody know if the rim will need repairing. The damage is small, <10mm, where the smooth edge of the rim has been pushed flat. I can't see any cracks in the alloy, although haven't got the tyre off yet. I've seen previous posts, but am I likely to be able to claim from the council for the offending verge? Any advice greatly appreciated. P.S. Stuck to the 50mph limit of the space saver and improved my 32mile communte mpg to 53, usually around 42, don't think the fuel saving will make up for the price of repairs though.
  6. I also think the rear viz is pretty poor in the hatch, combination of thick C pillars and spoiler, big objects not an issue but parking at work (low level fencing, can't see it at all), fully recommend reverse sensors though. Security was an issue for me on previous cars, had a mondy estate and always had to leave the boot cover pulled over, but somebody mentioned that suggests you might have something worth thieving from the boot. Obviously no such issues with the hatch.
  7. Just an update, 2 days after all this, the exhaust pressure sensor light went off and has not yet returned. So do I still take it to the stealers for a new sensor anyway, or take the 'if it ain't broke, why fix it' attitude and wait to see if the problem recurs. Suppose could get them to vag.com and if no errors then LWA (leave well alone). Either way, now a happy skoda driver again!:jumpsmile
  8. Having mentioned in other posts my woes with the exhaust pressure sensor and DPF, I finally got the car to Skoda again for them to look it over. (Had a Fabia1 for a courtesy car, surprisingly characterful) The car needs another new exhaust pressure sensor. So I collected the car this morning (post night shift so a bit tired) and rebooked to get the sensor fitted. They could not explain why the DPF light was on. Got in the car, turned on the ignition and the glow plug light started flashing indicating limp-home mode. Went straight back in and they offered me the Fabia for a week until they could get the part, or I could take my car and drive in limp-mode. Decided to take my car and hope I could clear the limp mode with the drive home, as I had managed this previously. 2 miles of town driving and the DPF light goes off for the first time in 5 weeks, and then the glow plug light switches off and the car goes back to full power. It all seems very odd to me, I don't understand how 2 miles of sub 30mph driving can clear the DPF, but 30miles of 50, 60 and 70mph limits can't. Have to say that the dealer did a great job on cleaning the car, so would happily use them again as a car wash.
  9. I'm not convinced the two are usually linked. Before I had my original exhaust pressure sensor replaced, I had a handful of times with the DPF coming on and managed to clear them each time (including going in to limp-home mode on one occasion). I think the exhaust pressure sensor light was on each time as it hardly ever went off. This latest episode is the first time the DPF light has been on since the exhaust pressure sensor update and despite all recommended efforts, I cannot clear the light. However, I have driven in excess of 1000miles with the DPF light on and so far have not had any loss of performance. Therefore I am wondering if the DPF is OK, but the light won't clear because of the exhaust pressure sensor error. Alternatively, the nature of my commute allows me to drive at DPF regeneration revs, so maybe I'm just keeping it shy of blocking up enough to go into limp-home mode. Rebooked to go to the stealers in a weeks time so looking forward to a bit more information from them.
  10. Had Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics put on the front 4 weeks ago. SO much better than the original Michelins. No more second gear wheelspin! However, choose your budget and read the reviews.
  11. Last week I called out Skoda Assist to check the exhaust sensor and dpf lights. The only error he got was the exhaust sensor (replaced 1 month ago). Unfortunately he couldn't tell me if the DPF was clogged, although it wasn't registering an error. So, booked the car in to Skoda closest to work. Was supposed to drop the car off this evening and collect a courtesy car, however drove out the work car park to the screeching sound of stone against disc (familiar to me now as this is the second time in 2months). Eventually cleared the stone without having to call out Skoda Assist, but too late to get to Skoda in time to drop the car off, so it continues with the lights on (DPF has been on for about 3 weeks now, is that a record) Anybody else prone to stone trapping episodes? Oh and also checked the oil the other day, only to find the engine trim had come loose again despite being fixed when the exhaust sensor and 26E6 update were done. Bad times.
  12. Cheers for the advice Fortunately SWMBO's lending me her car for the week (Focus), so will hopefully get Skoda stealer or otherwise Assist to check it out.
  13. An addition to my entry above. Having had the 26E6 update and new sensor, the exhaust light came on after leaving the dealer and driving 15miles (of dual carriageway). Have not had time to get back to skoda yet, however this week the dpf light came on. The car only does journeys of 30+miles at a time, mainly on dual carriageway and A-roads. Have done all the recommendations as above on the regeneration process, including an 80mile steady cruise, so guess the filter's properly clogged. Better things to do with my time than drive around at 2000-3200rpm on pointless journeys. Thinking about talking to dealer about swapping into a petrol vrs. In the meantime I guess I'll wait for the limp-mode to kick in so I have a legitimate reason to call out Skoda Assist.
  14. Such a personal choice. I reckon my PD is probably costing me less now to run in the daily grind and do enjoy the fairly brutal torque delivery, but often think when the country lanes are empty, the TFSI would be a little bit more enjoyable. Also look at all the issues on DPFs, haven't factored in unnecessary visits to the stealer's in my economy calculations.
  15. Ha, had the 26E6 update and new sensor fitted today. 15miles later the light is back on! Even more annoying, it was having an off day before it went to the garage. As a note, had the DPF light come on once while in a traffic jam on the M5, hence went in to limp home mode. Home was 160miles, but 40miles on limp home mode (once traffic got moving) and all lights went off, back to full power. Anyone else experienced this?
