  1. firstly, happy new year to everyone at Briskoda. secondly - does anyone have any experience of Direct Choice insurance, good or bad? have been researching car insurance for my fab vrs for a while now and this has been the cheapest quote - but not sure if too good to be true. any pointers would be appreciated. thanks in advance jimmy
  2. dimebag darrell (bad name) was a talented guitarist and pantera were an excellent band. as a teenager listening to cowboys from hell, vulgar display of power and far beyond driven was amazing. everyone else was listening to 'rave' (that certainly isnt music and you def cant hum to it) and there was me and ONE other mate listening to pantera. the guitar riffs were so good and even now, occasionally listening to pantera in the fab vrs is magic. i might have to dig the old cds out and have a good listen.
  3. i think i will just have a standard 12 month policy. the quote is
  4. thanks for the feedback everyone, overall it seems elephant are ok. i guess at the end of the day, all insurance companies are pretty similar - its the luck of the draw how well your individual claim/experience goes. looks like its elephant for me then!
  5. does anyone on here have any experience of dealing with elephant.co.uk? i am thinking of changing over to them from my current insurers and wondered if anyone has had any good/bad experiences with them? they are far and away the cheapest quote i have had and was wondering if it was a case of too good to be true. how do they rate compared to other insurers etc? any feedback would be much appreciated or ideas for other companies for me (fabia vrs, 25, 'safe' postcode, three years NCB). many thanks.
  6. i had a civic type r stick right behind me on the m1 on saturday, even though we were in traffic and i could go no further/faster. when the queue ended he was desperate to get past me even if it meant him going well over the speed limit. similar thing this morning on the a14. an audi a6 would not pull over and kept in the outside lane even though it was obvious i wanted to go past him (no i wasnt tailgating!!) i like it though that people are so bothered. if its safe to play i will do, if not, they can carry on. if they want to wreck their car its up to them. all fun and games though.
  7. cambs police have a black octy vrs as well. have nearly made the mistake of flashing and waving at it several times!
  8. have just found out the dealer i bought my car from (mill hill in march, cambs) is no longer a skoda dealer! it had to give up its dealership as skoda was no longer prepared to sell cars through garages which were not in citys/urban areas. it has been a skoda garage for 20 years and according to the guy there has always met and beaten all its sales targets. apparently there are a total of 40 or so skoda garages across the uk which will not be skoda garages in the future because of skodas new initiative. if this is the case, im sure it will have an impact on some people from this website.
  9. i dont know if anyone else has noticed this but i was flicking through the daily mail (rubbish paper i know) and there was a skoda advert for a fabia vrs! this is the first vrs ad ive seen anywhere but there it was, a full page ad in the daily mail of all publications. hope skoda arent starting an ad campaign (especially targeting daily mail readers) - dont want everyone knowing how good the fab vrs is!
  10. i bought my fab vrs because it is just an excellent car. i looked at a focus tdci, a seat ibiza sport and had a 206dturbo before and none of these compared, even though they are in a similar group with regards to price/size etc. the focus proved too expensive to buy and, for what you were paying, didnt match up at all. it was also way too common. the ibiza was too small (i could hardly sit up straight even with the seat right down) didnt look half as good and was not as nice inside. and it cost alot more! the 206 was a pile of sh!te and i couldnt wait to get rid of it! the fab vrs is fairly cheap to run, is fast, good looking (if a car can be), is good inside (except for the easily marked grey cloth) and is also very rare. it is also a head turner - you get so many looks from people when you pass them - especially when they dont expect to overtaken by a 'little old skoda fabia'. however, when ive decided to grow a moustache and beard, got two kids, a dog and a caravan i might 'upgrade' to an octavia the change is happening though as i do listen to radio 2 sometimes. oh no!
  11. ive only ever seen about five fab vrs' in the four months or so that i've had mine and i'm fairly sure a couple of the spottings were the same cars. saw a silver vrs in st neots last week and a black one parked on the ring road in huntingdon. still very rare compared to other makes/models, which isn't a bad thing!
  12. does anyone's vrs gearbox vibrate a lot when put into fourth? this is happening more and more when put into fourth at speeds of around 30mph and 40mph. it happens when i accelerate away and then stops. it's not because the revs are too low as it never used to happen, the engine isnt labouring at all. if no one does have the same problem, has anyone any ideas of what may be causing it?
  13. thought id add my two pence worth to the discussion. i like the way my vrs handles and think the suspension is good in all circumstances. on motorways and dual carriageways the car soaks up the undulating dips and rises and on a lot of fen roads (where, unfortunately i drive quite often) it is solid and smooth. i had the (mis)fortune to drive a 1.9 standard fabia diesel when mine was being serviced and believe me, the difference is a million miles! there is simplky no comparison, the vrs feels like a different car from a different time (which it is). i guess its down to personal preference and experience of other cars but i am more than happy. however, i do think my front suspension is starting to develop and squeaking/groan when i go over speed bumps (and i always go slow over them).
  14. im really interested in the what can be done to 'modify' my vrs with regard to VAGCOM. i read through the thread 'intelligent indicators' and asked my dealer what can be done and he said he didnt think anything could be upgraded on my car. he did admit he wasnt sure and would check though. i guess from what i have read on here 'anti-jacking' and 'beep to lock/unlock' are all little things that can be added and that he may be wrong. the upgrades are not much, but still sound pretty good and little things like that are pretty smart! so, how do you go about finding out what can/cant be done and what has anybody on here had done? would be good to see what is possible and what cool little changes can be made.
  15. spinning wheel trims are THE gayest things i have ever seen. there is a metro where i live that has them, driven by an oik, who always wears his cap backwards. enough said.
