  1. The battery in my 2011 Octy RS has died and I'm struggling to find the correct replacement. The current (original) battery is a Banner one with the code SKO 915 105F. Any website I look on for a replacement lists a battery with the dimensions 242 long, 175 wide, 190 high. The OE one is 270 long, 175 wide and 200 high. Will the shorter and higher batteries fit? If it makes any difference mine is in a hard plastic box with some felt material around the battery.
  2. Thanks for that. I thought I had read somewhere the dash pod was involved. I'll go back to the dealer that replaced it. Would have been better if they had asked for the spare key at the time.
  3. I'm running a 2011 tfsi VRS with DSG. I have the Shark stage one map (no other mods) and I haven't noticed any problems, other than having to be a bit more careful with the right boot when it's wet!
  4. Hoping someone can help. I recently tried my spare key and found it would not start the car. The key is the original one supplied with the car and still has the tags with the security numbers. The remote locking is working fine. Two questions: I had the dash pod replaced under warranty a year ago, could this have affected the immobiliser system? Do I have to go back to the dealer to have it reprogrammed, and is it easier and cheaper as I have the codes that came with the keys?
  5. Phoned back and queried the price, it was revised to: £139 for the (oil) service, £40 for the MOT test and £49 for a brake fluid change. Think with the mileage I'm doing I'll get a basic service done each year and add the other bits or do them myself when needed.
  6. Hi chaps. I have a 2011 Octy and need some advice on servicing. We do around 5000 miles a year in the car and have it on time/ distance servicing. The local Skoda dealer (Swindon) has quoted £416 for the service & MOT. The car is at 51k. DSG oil was done at 40k Is this right for a (major?) service. As I've done less than 5k since the last service am I better having another oil change service this time? I'm also considering using a local independent VAG specialist who quoted £296 Any advice is appreciated.
  7. I now have a Briskoda sticker where the tax disk used to be.
  8. You have a very old system, these are usually wired so that the call for hot water will fire the boiler, with the water temperature controlled by the boiler thermostat. You have to have hot water selected to on on the timer to use the heating (to power the boiler) and the pump will be started by the thermostat. They're set up this way as it takes a long time to heat the water by gravity circulation, this is what causes the boiler cycling. The best way round this is to convert the system to fully pumped, with a 3 way valve or two 2 port valves to gain independent control of heating and hot water. I would recommend this is carried out by a pro as fitting a valve on the wrong pipe (the vent) would be dangerous.
  9. I don't really like the look of the mk 2, has an ugly front end. I've got lots more stuff to cart around now so my next move will probably be an Octy VRS estste.
  10. The speaker in my Talex died so I have just had it replaced at Halfords. The muppet behind the counter told me they had no stock so I showed him the one I had reserved on their website, he then agreed that they did have some! Grr! My question is how do I move my subscription to the new device, the updater won't talk to the new device as it has a different serial no. Will Talex swap it or should I just cancel and start again?
  11. Just got a new Talex from Halfords for £39.99, went to the Talex site bought a subscription and the update worked. All seems well. Now to go for a drive and see how it does:D Talex GPS Safety Camera Detector from Halfords Was £58.71 Save £18.72 Price £39.99
  12. Maybe just after they slap into a tree and have to have the phone surgically removed.
  13. OK, gave the VW RNS300 in the van a try over a couple of days and nearly 500 miles. Really dont like it, it talks all the time over what I'm listening to on the radio. Constantly has a message popping up to tell me there's no traffic info on the station I'm listening to. (This is only available on Classic in my area.) The directions are vague at complex junctions. The voice is too loud at its lowest setting. The maps are outdated. It doesnt do POI downloads. It doesnt do Scamera van Warnings. Back to TomTom for me. Might even upgrade to a live in the new year.
