  1. got exactly the same problem, also my dpf light comes on occasionally. the fuel gauge seems bizarrely related to outside temperature, colder days it is more reliable. i have changed the fuel pump assy, based on an error code and some research, which made no difference, indeed the new pump failed and i'm back on the old one. the temp sensor hasn't played up for a while now. fuel gauge is still random.
  2. appologies all yes i am interested in the vrs versions
  3. does anyone know if the front discs on an estate are different to the hatchback? i know the diameters are the same, i'm interested in the offset.
  4. 56,000 miles. On a 10 plate It started using a lot of oil at around 45,000. Had the oil jets etc changed under warranty and consumption is back to normal. Used for general driving, some city some country road and a bit of motorway. Plan is to keep it for another year or so
  5. I also had the linkage seize up after the car was laid up for a while
  6. Same journey I usually see low to mid fifties Something definitely not right
  7. It is truly amazing how much energy can be dissipated in a few inches. Out of curiosity had the engine and box been forced into the ground? Even the focus stood up pretty will.
  8. Ours uses a similar amount of oil and it does concern me a wee bit. Especially as it is swmbo's car. As an individual I don't know what is normal usage so this sort of thread just settles the mind. I tend to refill when the level is on the bottom of the hatching when cold just for consistency
  9. back when i started driving the standard thing that needed changing was brake pipes, they are a bit corroded, won't pass the next mot. since the materials got better protected and the job got a lot harder it seems to have gomne away. brake fluid never needed changing every other service, now since it got better, it needs changing. tracking used to be a simple (not always easy) job using simple tools - and usually badly done , since laser alignment came along it seems another opportunity to charge a lot for relatively little. i'd love to know if the price would change if you rolled up with a fully adjustable car!
  10. 49 and 11 month,s had my vrs for a few weeks and actually look forward to my drive to and from work my 198k miles octy 1 made one a bit sea sick.
  11. currently doing a test on running tesco super unleaded in the fabia. for some sad reason i collect fuel consumprion data on our cars (actually useful for teaching statistics) will see when swmbo manages to get a recipt for the fuel and we can see if there is any change in the data
  12. thanks for the warm welcome folks and sorry if i'm boring you. i was incorrect with the mot checking bulbs - would be difficult wthout taking the backs off, which of course wouldn't be allowed. i would be interested to see where the legality is confirmed though, all i have seen is stuff refering to the 2010 dft document with ammendments about not failing mot's (as opposed to being legal),
  13. i don't recall out vrs having a bad dip beam, and the main driver just says it could be better. i think we will try some Osram bulbs. people should be aware that HID kits are not legal unless the car is fitted with headlamp levellers, washers and i think have 'E' marked bulbs. i also believe the mot test will be or is checking bulb for legality. type aproval is proof that the type of car meets the legislation, it could be said that the cars submitted for type aproval represent the best that can be achieved, not what will come out of the factory. the factory is only responsible for putting the component parts together, whilst safety critical items can be proven to be correct, lights as i recal, are only tested to see they turn on. i don't recall ever seeing lights being set, though i have worked on systems to set them. in truth, setting them in the factory would be a bit hit and miss, the suspension wouldn't have settled, there would be next to no fuel in the tank and the tyres would probably be over inflated. as for safety, high dip beams are far more dangerous than low, being blinded at speed is a seriously scary - been there done that, better to have the lights low and force drivers to slow down. the best option to correct the situation would be for skoda uk to instruct the dealers to set lights as part of the pdi, this may happen if enough people complain. chances of getting a change in the factory - zero - cost would be huge .
  14. due to the dip beam dying on my tdi estate i have decided to cut my losses and bought another octy estate an 08 vrs
  15. just brought home an 08 vrs diesel due to the demise of my octy 1 tdi. it's a bit different, traction control workiong hard we are now a 2 vrs family, wife has a fabia vrs as well
